The objective of this deck is to use many gain 1 life, lose 1 life effects from most of the ally creatures. There are 8 pieces of this deck that can enable the drain triggers. This includes Kalastria Healer Cliffhaven Vampire and. Another way to win is to suicide with Zulaport Cutthroat and the rest with a board state that regardless if the opponent can block it or not will bring them down to 0 which happens quite often.
Early Game
The early game strategy is to play cards that will help you get to the late game. For that reason, cards like Kalastria Healer are used as this is the core card in the deck.
Serene Steward
is here to help pump up creatures and slow the game with big bodys.
Behind the Scenes
is also another cool card that helps up poke a bit until we are ready to play our objective. Lets not Forget that with Cliffhaven Vampire out, the effect of the drain triggers are doubled.
Mid Game
This is when you want just to survive. You will want to be gain and draining from Kalastria Healer rally effect. This is when Cliffhaven Vampire and Drana, Liberator of Malakir come in handy. Drana can also be used in conjunction with
Captain's Claws
to bring a 1/1 token and pump it to 2/2 with one attack or trigger free rally triggers. The goal of the deck is not to go full aggro, but attacking can help get to point where we can win with drain triggers.
Late Game
If you hand is completely empty and your out of creatures to cast, you still have possible options. You can use Shambling Vent and equip a
Captain's Claws
to create creatures out of nothing. If you flood out, you can use
Retreat to Emeria
to make some tokens and equip the claws on them as well.
Side Board Options
Behind the Scenes
Great for going under big creature decks like dragons or Eldrazi and the tokens made from
Captain's Claws
can attack through safely.
Authority of the Consuls With Cliffhaven Vampire out and this, its like my opponent gives me Kalastria Healer rally triggers for free!! Oh and it shuts down hasty creatures as well I guess.
Essence Extraction Great for aggro matchups. Since its an instant, the best time to use it is with decks with pump and fight spells all while fitting the drain theme of the deck.
Ironwright's Cleansing
yup artifacts vehicles/equipment are a thing so mind as well prepare for it.
Kor Bladewhirl In case I need to race instead without the risk of making trades all while slimming a bit on the mana curve.
Makindi Patrol
This will give aggro matchups a hard time because they will either trade with your creatures when I attack, or I will trade when the opponent attacks back at me. The goal is to make them run out of gas by using pump spells ineffectively.
March from the Tomb In case I need more recovery against heavy control as I can get 3 cards out of this which could trigger the drain effects 3 times as well.
Planar Outburst So Spell Queller is a pain in the ass in standard and this board wipe is out of its reach. I could also consider Fumigate as well.
Transgress the Mind This should used in decks that are basically not fast aggro. This can hit most things that you would want to get rid of anyways.
