I am currently working on a Dredge "CounterRamp" deck and Varolz will work nicely in there.

Have you thought about Predator's Rapport and possibly a Swiftfoot Boots or Lightning Greaves when you make the deck modern. Its always nice gaining 64 life when you have your Hydra around 32/32 that also cant be touched by a simple Murder

Predator's Rapport was in the original build, but made its way to the sideboard and then eventually to the maybe board. I do like gaining the life, but typically do not need to.

As for cycle to modern, There are soooooooo many gross things this deck can do in Modern lol, Lightning Greaves is absolutely one of them :)

i really like what this can do and how fast it can do it. the Corpsejack Menace are a beast. I played it against my r/g HAIL HYDRA and just squeeked out the win with it. And that was souly due to to the fact of a very very lucky Flesh / Blood being drawn into with a xenagod on the feild.

Hey could you check out my new revision of my deck and your deck mashed together and let me know what you think? HAIL HYDRA 2.0

Man, I've spent the last few weeks brewing something along the same lines!

Being a combo johnbo, I've been trying BG/r and BG/u for the Legendary Rakdos witch and Fathom Mage respectively. So far the Red splash version had more overall resilience, due to packing more main deck removal (same suit as most other Jund shells). That being said, getting any scavenge on fathom Mage, Lotleth troll and Bioshift are funky.

Yeah I messed around with splashing U and R but just could not get the concept to work. The original build also had a heavy scavenge feel to it. I then broke that down as well to build a Dredge/Scavenge "CounterRamp" deck, Dont feed the Troll's (CounterRamp Scavenge)

I am a sucker for RampCombos lol as well as taking a perfectly fine working deck concept, breaking it, then rebuilding it of key cornerstones lol

Yeah, I totally get what you mean. Blue has been totally fiddly in testing for me.

I think (and I could be wrong) but your emphasising the Menace in this list, hence Bioshift over solidarity. My list (I'll link it as soon as I get up in the morning) pushes more for the KHydra synergies. Love this freakin' card game, it's so good to be brewing again!

Corpsejack Menace is a cornerstone for sure. in this model Bioshift sees much better use then Solidarity of Heroes since its a 1 drop and is 99% of the time used after blockers are declared to shift counters to obtain lethal on a trampler or unblocked.

GB(u?) counter There's my list as it is at the moment. It down plays the Counters element in exchange for a small main deck removal suite and solid 4 drops. I'll proxy up your list soon and see if I've been going down the wrong path.

You make a good point about the unblocked bioshifting though.

Added in Solidarity of Heroes because well, why not :)

Looks good.

Only suggestion I can think of is some Rogue's Passage I can't even count the times Kalonian Hydra + Rogue's Passage has won me the match. People don't see it coming.

June 27, 2014 9:11 a.m.

xGhostx says... #14

I have thought about Rogue's Passage but the issue is that my local shops that run FNM all have very Agrro decks..... 4 mana can sometimes mean a game over if not used correctly, same with drawing a colorless producer when I need a G/B

June 27, 2014 9:16 a.m.

APPLE01DOJ says... #15

Well considering your low land count I kinda assumed that your mana dorks did the job.

I include it as 1 of in my deck as stupid Mutavault hogs the colorless slot.

Typically a 16/16 hydra that gets thru as unblockable wins the game. So basically you'll only spend the mana if it would win u the game.

Also Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth is being reprinted in M15. That card is insane for mana fixing.

June 27, 2014 9:26 a.m.

xGhostx says... #16

Yeah Urbog will make the build for the month that M14 and 15 are both standard legal. Another great addition with M15 will be Genesis Hydra. This guy is going to be gross.

After rotation, this will more then likely g to a Modern build.

APPLE01DOJ says... #17

Yea, Genesis Hydra looks sweet.

I never had a chance to run it as Gruel isn't my colors but Savageborn Hydra is badass from a flavor standpoint.

June 27, 2014 9:35 a.m.

xGhostx says... #18

I have experimented with the idea, but adding the Red has typically slowed the deck down and caused more issues then benefits.

And yes Savageborn Hydra is absolutely disgusting more so if you can give him trample.

APPLE01DOJ says... #19

Also, have u give Scourge of Skola Vale a shot? Personally I love the card. It makes for a super sweet shield and if u have to u can even sac a Sylvan Caryatid to it late game to make a hefty body in a pinch. It's like an attacking Bioshift

June 27, 2014 9:41 a.m.

xGhostx says... #20

Yeah I got a playset of Skola Vale, not sure what I could drop to add him though.

He was in a older version of the deck and just did not make the cut.

June 27, 2014 9:47 a.m.

xGhostx says... #21

Genesis Hydra !!!!! He is finally linkable, will hit once M15 drops. He will be a 4x for sure.

dropped 4x Vastwood Hydra for 4x Genesis Hydra

This deck is amazing dude. +1 for sure.

I would just recommend sideboarding the Mistcutter Hydra and take out 1 Abrupt Decay . Add 3 Hero's Downfall to help with trouble and slow starts. Also, add 2 Heroes' Bane or the Scavenge haste guy for more aggro and counters.

June 29, 2014 8:32 p.m.

xGhostx says... #24

Thanks dude, Mistcutter Hydra is far to much of a cornerstone to remove. I cant count how many games I have won from an unexpected Mistcutter hitting buffs from a Corpsejack Menace and Kalonian Hydra and swinging with Haste.
