Tried a few playtests and I think I agree. The Charm has some major benefits as in a typical game 1 as soon as a Kalonian Hydra hits he is an instant concern for my opponent and becomes a target to remove before his first swing.

Game 2 Corpsejack Menace is the primary target so its nice having the regen in. I can see myself swapping Vraska for the 3rd Charm pretty well every game 2.

On a side note, w00t 100+ comments!

FNM 1st place! thanks for the help everyone!

4 rounds, 2-0, 2-0. 2-1, 2-0

Only loss was to Agrro Orzhov Brimaz. He just got rolling faster then I could draw answers. Lost first, sided in Hand/Board destruction and finished 2nd and 3rd games quickly.

Proud owner of my second Foil Bile Blight. Need 2 more :P

Thanks guys, the real test is going to the Salt Lake GPT next weekend. Lots of testing and hopefully little changes this week :)

We are very close to rotation and this build dies come that time. I want to make sure it goes out with a bang!

Great job and awesome results! Any new insights with your current setup? Any weak spots you want to fix?

Chord of Calling or maybe adding back in Garruk, Caller of Beasts in exchange for the Genesis Hydra I found myself needing to draw out on a few occasions. Hand full of Lotleth Troll 's Scavenging Ooze 's land ect. Luckily, enough kill spells to hold off until I could draw a game changer like Corpsejack Menace or Kalonian Hydra .

That said, I did drop Genesis Hydra a few times yesterday and more often then not, his "Genesis" ability had little to no benefit, I simply ended with a big ass hydra. Would draw nothing but land and spells, or draw Mistcutter Hydra which cannot be dropped in.... One occasion I played a Genesis Hydra for 7, Hit a Corpsejack Menace hit board as a 14/14, but the searching for top 7 reveled nothing, which was actually more important at the time then a 14/14 Hydra.... (playing M15 Orzhov Life Gain, 2 Wall of Essence on board and I had no Nylea, God of the Hunt out for trample....)

Not sure though, am going to test a few options through the week see if I can find a solid way to cycle the deck or elimnate bad draws without taking to much of the explosiveness out.

Tried dropping the Scavenging Ooze 's and dropping down to 2x Genesis Hydra 's to add 2x Chord of Calling 1x Kalonian Hydra and 1x Mistcutter Hydra to make 4of's the gruesome twosome but so far after minimal playtesting, not overly happy.... seems to have slowed things down. Currently at consistent 7-8th turn lethal as opposed to to previous build was 6th turn.....

Dying Wish has been super helpful at times, especially if I can't get damage through for some reason and there is a sac outlet on the board.

Thanks for the suggestion awebgsu I am trying to stay away from anything that is about to be rotated, not like it mattesr I will lose half the build at rotation anyway lol,

Typically, I was using Predator's Rapport in the past for life gain, but in this build life is not often a concern. As long as I have at least 1 and I am attacking :)

More often then not my opponent feels they have the win solidified based on my life total, and I top deck a Nylea, God of the Hunt or a Mistcutter Hydra and thats a big ol GG :)

Yeah Genesis Hydra might be better in a pure creature deck since you only have 20 valid targets, however you've had some tough luck too.

Also, as you now only have 3 1-drops, might it be an idea to test with more scrylands to make use of on your 1st turn if you don't have a 1-drop and make your draws smoother?

Like adding off color Scry lands? I dont think that is a good choice..... The deck does not get mana pooched often, but it definatly can happen and I would like to limit that as much as possible. A few turns of bad mana can ruin the deck.

As for everyone else. I built a new post-rotation standard deck yesterday and am really having fun with it. I am not sure if I want to run this tried, tested and true deck that I know will do well and place high at the GPT or this new contraption.

Artifact Deck Wins (Post Rotation, Help Needed)

Take a look and give me your thoughts and opinions. Chances are I will be running the Hydra's as I have been playing them for so long now that I can anticipate what the deck is going to do by mid game.... but you never know I might take a gamble and play what no one will expect me to be running.

I don't mean a lot, just a 2-3 of B/X scrylands for example to replace your swamps. This way you can sure you have a good T1 play; either Elvish Mystic (3) with an untapped G land (12) or a scryland (6). I've drawn a number of hands, and in more than an insignificant amount of draws I'd rather have a scryland than a swamp.

I'm not saying it's a must do, but I think you might want to consider/test it.

I'd run this deck. Ur more familiar with it and it's mechanics, running a new deck always brings about the learning & decision making which u already have mastered with this deck.

Yeah thats what I am thinking to, I can pretty well tell almost every game exactly how this deck with draw and play

So i have bin dying to know. how did the gpt go? and rotation is happening so fast are you going to moddify this to modern on here so we can see. I am so curious as to what your ideas are for that

GPT went badly..... hence why I did not post. Was a little depressed over the entire situation. The major reason for why I did so poorly was the meta there. Everywhere you turned around it was American Control. Board Wipes, D-Sphere's, Sphinx Rev.....

Round 1 I got paired against Junk Walkers and crushed him in 2 games, so my hopes were high. Then Rounds 2,3 and 4. American Control. My only out in that game is Mistcutter Hydra managed to squeak out a few wins, but lost all 3 rounds.

Top 18 got prizes and after dropping 3 rounds there was no way to make that so I scooped and went home..... Sad day.

As for Modern, yes I am still thinking the deck will cycle to Modern. Really wish Deathrite Shaman was Modern Legal as it would make things interesting :) Not sure what the additions will be. More then likely Ensnaring Bridge / Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord Combo Doubling Season and open for suggestions. Will post a build soon!

That's too bad man, couldn't Golgari Charm help you out there? Regen against Verdict and destroy enchantment against D-sphere, it's just that you have to wait with dropping Corpsejack Menace T4 to leave mana open against Verdict.

The deck is cool nontheless, best of luck with making it modern!

September 4, 2014 7:58 a.m.

xGhostx says... #21

Golgari Charm Does work well when regen'ing against boardwipe, but most heavy control have so many, Supreme Verdict Elspeth, Sun's Champion as well as straight kill and exile spells and ways to cycle them back into their deck.

As for Detention Sphere and other exile's, Hydra's fair badly against exile..... When exiled, they lose all their counters. So removing the enchantment or creature causing the exile results in the Hydra hitting the board as 0/0 and promptly dying......

Thanks for kind words Souljacker!

Standard is and will always be my home. I have been trying a few different options. I tried the Izzet Artifact build, Which as much as I wanted it to work, was just way to Janky. Artifact Deck Wins (Post Rotation, Help Needed) was the build I ran, but its since been ripped apart and put in the binder as traders.

Now I am working on a Simic Monsters deck. Not sure what will happen with the new block but as of right now this is post rotation legal. Thinking it may turn into BUG Walkers.....

Bummer about your loss. It happens.

They didn't put a Detention Sphere on Mistcutter Hydra did they cause that would have been an illegal play?

Perhaps a Terra Stomper on the SB could have helped those matches out. Some Pithing Needle and Phyrexian Revoker shut down AEtherling and their walkers, namely Elspeth, Sun's Champion . I find it best to just ignore the Jace's.

Nope, but the W/U and R/W/U control builds all have other ways to deal with the Mistcutters. Straight Exile just punishes this deck, even if I drew an Abrupt Decay for an answer, when the creature hits the board again it drops all of its Counters. So in terms of Kalonian Hydra , Mistcutter Hydra and Genesis Hydra , the three heavy hitters in the deck there is no point fighting to retrieve them.

Elspeth, Sun's Champion can simply -3 to blow them up, Supreme Verdict still board wipes Mistcutter. Its just a bad match up all around. My only wincon is a super aggro Mistcutter hitting deck after good ramp and at least one Corpsejack Menace on board.

September 11, 2014 8:10 p.m.

xGhostx says... #25

And yeah Terra Stomper would have been a solid SB addition.

Dropped 1x Solidarity of Heroes , 1x Golgari Charm and 1x Hero's Downfall from the SB and added 3x Terra Stomper ]
