Remember to give the deck a +1 if you like it!

This is a spin off of the various Golgari decks I've seen floating around. None of the decks that have been popping up have been appealing to me at all. They are either too aggressive and creature based, rely too much on the graveyard, or are too weak in general.

I feel like this list works best against the widest range of decks we are facing in standard right now. The main board features answers to most cards in the format, and the sideboard is well tuned to go against control more aggressively and to keep aggro in the dirt.

I'll explain my card choices and why they are here one-by-one starting with the mana base and working my way up the curve

4 Overgrown Tomb - We need mana fixing and this is just the best card we have for G/B right now.

4 Golgari Guildgate - More mana fixing. Going to be replaced by the scry land as soon as it's relaeased.

3 Mutavault - This land is so versatile and it's essential against U/W/X decks right now. Just a great card here.

7 Forest - No Explanation Needed

7 Swamp - No Explanation Needed

<<++Let's Climb the Curve!++>>

4 Thoughtseize - This card is just amazing against any deck that runs 1 or more non-land cards. Arguably the best turn 1 play in standard.

4 Abrupt Decay - This is a great removal card, and it hits a huge amount of things right now, namely Detention Sphere and Nightveil Specter.

4 Sylvan Caryatid - This is just a great card. It taps for both our colors, functions as a nice little blocker, AND has hexproof. It really helps us get going.

3 Scavenging Ooze - This little guy is really great. He can get huge and gain us a bunch of life. It's also nice to get Sphinx's Revelation out of people's graveyard before they crack an elixir.

1 Golgari Charm - This card is pretty good, but it doesn't work well against some decks. 1 in the mainboard, but the other 2 copies are in the side.

1 Ultimate Price - Just removal. Always great, but it doesn't hit stuff like Nightveil Specter or Boros Reckoner

3 Read the Bones - This is just a really nice card draw mechanic. It's pretty much a short, sweet version of Underworld Connections that works better in a jiffy. Connections is in the sideboard for games where we have more time.

3 Hero's Downfall - Instant speed creature OR planeswalker removal. Absolutely wonderful in the current meta game.

1 Putrefy - This is similar to downfall, but it hits enchantments rather than planeswalkers

4 Polukranos, World Eater - I've found that this guy really wins most games in this deck. He gets big, FAST. He can devour enemies, and a turn 3 5/5 is very hard to deal with. Just a very strong creature card.

4 Reaper of the Wilds - This is one of the cornerstone creatures of the deck. I play lots of removal, and the scry ability is great. Being able to make it hexproof as well as giving it deathtouch is just fantastic. Options are the best.

3 Vraska the Unseen - Vraska is really good in my opinion. It hits any non land permanents and if they let you ultimate, with the amount of removal in our deck it's usually game over.

Thanks for looking at the deck! Make sure to play test it and give it a +1! Leave any suggestions and constructive criticism in the comments below

Updates Add

I wanted to post an update about my side board preferences in this deck against certain match ups

U/W/x Archetypes - This is a pretty frustrating game for us, but after sideboard we can win very consistently. We don't care too much about spot removal because the game is going to go long and our Reaper of the Wilds is hex proof so it's an all star here. I take out our irrelevant removal in this match up. Abrupt Decay hits Detention Sphere so we only take out two (or keep them all and take out 3x Vraska the Unseen). Also something to mention is that Golgari Charm negates Supreme Verdict. Last mention: We keep Putrefy to destroy Elixir of Immortality In RESPONSE to it's use. Since it's shuffled instead of sacrificing this actually works to put it into the graveyard

-1 Ultimate Price -1 Vraska the Unseen -3 Abrupt Decay -3 Read the Bones

+3 Mistcutter Hydra +3 Underworld Connections +2 Golgari Charm

Mono Blue Devotion (and variants) - We are actually set up pretty well here, despite Tidebinder Mage being a total buzz kill. We don't have too much side boarding to do, and it's really mostly preference here. Obviously Mistcutter Hydra goes in and Golgari Charm usually clears their board or at least deals with [[Master of Waves and his tokens. Also consider switching out 2x Abrupt Decay with 1x Doom Blade and 1x Ultimate Price

Take out whatever you really want here. Everything in our deck is good against Mono-U but our sideboard things are just... Disgusting against them

+3 Mistcutter Hydra +2 Golgari Charm +2 Doom Blade

Green Red Monstars - This can be a really frustrating match up for us. If they drop their walkers and start drawing cards they can actually gain some strong card advantage and simply put, they can play more threats than we can deal with. Lifebane Zombie is really good here, but we really have to get lucky and just outplay them.

-1 Putrefy -1 Golgari Charm -2 Abrupt Decay

+2 Doom Blade +2 Lifebane Zombie

Mono Black Devotion (and variants) - We pretty much just win here. We are playing as much spot removal as them, except we have hex proof. Really this game is just planning. We want to make sure their board stays as clean as possible while we drop our threats. Abrupt Decay hits really important things to them like Underworld Connections and Nightveil Specter

Side-Boarding is up to you guys on this one, but I usually don't do anything because it's been a pretty easy 2-0 for me. Suggestions are Golgari Charm and Ultimate Price

Red Deck Wins (and variants) - This aggressive strategy is really hard for us to deal with. They drop more early game threats than we can really deal with, and by the time we drop our bombs like Reaper of the Wilds and Polukranos, World Eater we are usually dead. Our biggest chance is really to just race them with Pack Rat and kill as much as we can.

-1 Abrupt Decay -1 Putrefy -2 Scavenging Ooze

+2 Golgari Charm +2 Pack Rat

If anyone needs any further help, feel free to message me for more information about side boarding! As always have fun, play test the deck, and throw it a +1 if you like it!
