Like the concept, but I feel like Gray Merchant of Asphodel isn't quite the right fit for this deck...I can see the damage potential if you have Underworld Connections and Whip of Erebos but without those in play, I feel his ability is going to be underwhelming. The main problem with his ability is that it simply does direct damage to the player's health without changing the board (I run him in my main mono-black deck where he works incredibly well with all the devotion). To replace him, I'd say throw in one of either stereotypical cards for their respective colors; Desecration Demon is amazing for his cost to power ratio, and Scavenging Ooze is just a neat card to have around in general for boosting/light regen and card control purposes. Just my 2 cents, though. Like it otherwise :)

@pedrogsena Well, while Wasteland Viper has a slight advantage with it's higher toughness, I feel Sedge Scorpion would have a better use overall in the deck. The main use of the scorpion is pretty much to kill creatures, especially big ones, to clear up for an attack. Yes, while Wasteland Viper is a tinge better than Sedge Scorpion , it would have the exact same purpose as Sedge Scorpion has in the sideboard. Besides, I won't be using it's bloodrush ability much, the added stats is nice, but the deck is mostly offensive, so increasing the toughness that much is a bit pointless. Besides, I got the Bow of Nylea if I need deathtouch creatures. Thanks for the suggestions anyway :)
@Veledan True, but I am on a slightly strict budget (MTG is overpriced here) so Desecration Demon and Scavenging Ooze would set me back like $20 a piece, which is pretty steep. Thanks for the suggestions, and I'm glad you like the deck ! :D

Sorry but that makes no sense to me at all. I don't mean to be rude here but Wasteland Viper is essentially just as cheap as the scorpion on terms of money and it is essentially ALWAYS better than the scorpion so why wouldn't you add it instead of the scorpion?
Other than that I like the deck +1

I agree with parasitian on this one. Wasteland Viper is the same cost mana wise and also has an extra ability that makes it more flexible. You sound like you're trying to validate your mistake to save face because you have an inferiority complex. I like your deck, however.

@parasitian@NoapeltierNow I feel dumb. I'll switch it out. Thanks for liking the deck anyway.

you need to either go combo aggro or midrange. varolz and lol troll are combo pieces. dredge mangler is aggro and reaper is midrange. You need to pick one. I would sugest picking midrange and just adding 4 Sylvan Caryatid and a few Gaze of Granite

@tarnash Yeah that's true. I'm still testing the deck and it works out pretty fine so far, but I'll try some variations along the way.
November 14, 2013 4:08 a.m.
I think you should add a few more lands. 21 could get you into trouble.
November 26, 2013 5:39 a.m.
@oltmof So far from testing I have not ran into any trouble with the current land count, but I'll take your suggestion into consideration.
November 26, 2013 6:15 a.m.
thadx I hope you will really take my comment under advisement. Playing this few lands, without any mana ramp, with a fairly large count of 4 and 5 drops is going to cost you a frustrating amount of mulligans. A standard landcount for this type of deck is 23/24.
Lots of luck at FNM!

After play testing the only real problem i see was it seemed short on land. I ran into several hands i had to mulligan. Other then that looks pretty good.
November 30, 2013 7:51 a.m.
@Wing: Yeah, that card would be awesome in the deck, but the decks' on a budget after all. So unfortunately, I have to leave it out.
@Quadsimotto: After further testing, I decided to take out the Ordeals (or at least shift to the sideboard) to make room for more lands. Thanks for playtesting the deck !

Personally I'd drop 2x Reaper of the Wilds in favor of adding 2x Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord
December 1, 2013 8:36 a.m.
Is that a personal tactic of yours BIGBADBRRRAP ? giving people bad advice..? Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord s**ks big time.
December 1, 2013 6:22 p.m.
Sorry, but the mana cost alone, seen as this deck doesn't mana ramp, should be enough not to play Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord

is the color combination that is the problem, he may not always have on turn 4 BBGG at his disposal and besides, Reaper of the Wilds , brings more utility with the scry and the hexproof and it isn't as mana restrictive as Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord .
I would recommend that you take out the ordeals from your sideboard and put 2 Golgari Charm , that card is great, it can deal with mono U devotionso well.

i would also suggest you that when you have the funds that you change the 4 Corpsejack Menace for etheir 4 Desecration Demon or 4 Boom Satyr, since aside from varols you dont have more ways to get counters on your creatures

Golgari Charm
is a very usefull card, for example against Supreme Verdict
, you can also use one or two Skylasher
in the sideboard, against blue decks. Same goes for Mistcutter Hydra
. Not too expesive cards as well. works good against being countered.

Grisly Salvage is great to get creatures in the graveyard to scavenge them. Deadbridge Goliath is also nice to have on the battlefield or in the graveyard
December 4, 2013 10:12 p.m.
@oltmof Golgari Charm is a great card in this deck, adding it to the sideboard.
@Matthewb155 Grisly Salvage is nice, though the deck has a more midrange-ish playstyle. I do have it in my sideboard. Deadbridge Goliath is definitely going into the deck, probably replacing Gray Merchant of Asphodel .

Devour Flesh
might be slightly better than Doom Blade
in this situation. Maybe split them up. Or even Ultimate Price
could be included.

Just a minor nitpick, what about Wasteland Viper instead of Sedge Scorpion ?
