I see what y'all are saying, although I do not agree, one of the best parts of magic is that two people can look at the same card and have completely different opinions. I actually run one demon in my own golgari deck.

Not sure what the best option would be for your deck post-rotation but I think red works a little better with varolz than white and blue.

Completely agree on Varolz. It's gonna be a beast post rotation for sure. I need to check if I already have 4 and if not, get the full playset before price goes up ;)

right now i am trying to make my head explode by thinking what i could change in the sideboard for this sundays GPT ;)

gonna start adding cards i will consider from M14 to the maybeboard. i guess it will only work for cards that are re-edited or they won't show up on tappedout

Do you mean reprinted?

yeah I guess that's what I ment. I can add Ratchet Bomb just fine, but other, already spoiled, M14 cards can't be added here yet.

jokercrow srry for late reply. thx for your comment, yeah the deck puts quite some pressure on. it is suposed to be "mid-range" but with 8 haste creatures, lot's of removal, big scary demons and more tricks i get IRL comments like this pretty often "damn, you have a freaking response for everything" ;)

I think I am gonna switch one Evolving Wilds to a Ghost Quarter as I can re-utilize that one too with my Deathrite Shaman

You might wonder why I have 3x of everything in my sideboard... Well my philosophy is "Why do I have a sideboard? because I NEED those card against certain decks. So I actually need to DRAW them too, right?"

Which means: just 1 or 2 copies of a card are not consistent enough for my liking, which is very important because I specifically put those cards into my deck against the other deck, so if I do not draw them, what did I sideboard for? Ergo: 3 copies of each, increasing chances of drawing what I need against the opponent.

Perhaps Disciple of Bolas could help give you back some gas, especially when paired with desecration demon, drawing 6 cards and gaining 6 life at least can be a factor that wins the game for you.

Hello

I tried the disciple and it did 't really do me any good as I draw with Garruk and gain life with Thrag and Nighthawk. Also with 21 creatures in the deck I don't really want to sacrifice one.

Have you ever considered putting in a Mikaeus, the Unhallowed instead of maybe one Desecration Demon or Vampire Nighthawk ?

zandadoum says... #13

nope, I have not considered it.

Why would i change a 3 or 4 mana cost for a 6 mana cost? and with BBB no less?

That's insanely expensive (aka: slow) and doesn't really add any value to this deck.

I am sure in other decks he might be good, but certainly not in this deck.

But thx for your comment ;)

Oh man, I just played some games on Cockatrice, and I have to admit the synergy is awesome! It seems you deck has an answer for everything... And even [Golgari Charm] really works great, e.g. versus RDW with Stromkirk Noble and Lightning Mauler on second turn

NevertheIess I am a little worried about the mana: I really like the Evolving Wilds / Deathrite Shaman combo, but I often wished having a Golgari Guildgate in hand instead of Evolving Wilds (e.g. in an opening hand Forest + Swamp + Vampire Nighthawk + Strangleroot Geist ). Thus, it seems to me that adding a Cavern of Souls will make the mana basis even more "unstable". How good is the Shaman working as mana ramp (e.g. for Desecration Demon ) and mana fixing for you? Have you tried other ways of filling your graveyard with lands, e.g. Grisly Salvage ?

Hi laccol

My mana curve is usually working perfectly fine (unless I am really unlucky on draws ofc).

My openings are usually Strangleroot Geist and Dreg Mangler even if I had a Vampire Nighthawk in hand I usually don't cast it until I made my opponent waste some removals. I never keep a 1mana hand and I usually have either G+Evolving Wilds or G+B in the opining hand. If I can't cast a Strangleroot Geist in T2 but I see I'll be able to get a Dreg Mangler in T3, I just don't worry whatsoever.

Deathrite Shaman and Evolving Wilds allows me to T3 a Desecration Demon or T4 a Garruk, Primal Hunter and it's specially for this latter combination that I use this combo, because of garruks GGG cost. But there are many games where I don't even get to draw a Evolving Wilds (even when I had 4 in the deck) which doesn't worry me either, because it means I actually drew "real" lands.

Cavern of Souls is a new addition I did not test yet. As you mention I am a bit concerned about the curve, but hey: I'll see how it goes next week. Also: Deathrite Shaman and Vampire Nighthawk are both shaman, so I can just name that and the Cavern will help me casting any of those.

I don't want to use anything that self mills me right now, like Grisly Salvage , however I am already developing a new deck for when everything cycles, and Grisly Salvage is in there ;)

Anyways, thx for your comments and I am glad you liked the deck.

Hey zandadoum, thank you very much for the explanations! I think I'll try a few games with your advices, they definitely helped me to understand your deck. I am very curious about your next brew!

thx for your comment and +1

however this is not a counter orientated deck and there is no space for Increasing Savagery here. i already tried that a while back, didn't work out.

Have been testing on Cockatrice for a couple of days now and the deck works quite well... EXCEPT those Cavern of Souls which screw me quite bad when I need to get one of my planeswalkers out...

And I don't have space in my sideboard for them... so I am actually considering not to use them and maybe use 2 Golgari Guildgate instead.

We'll see...

zandadoum says... #24

ok, after many many games I decided to NOT run Cavern of Souls it's hurting my curve A LOT, specially when I need swamps for Mutilate

I would love to run the Caverns at least as sideboard, but no place right now.

I'll put a Swamp and another Ghost Quarter in ;)

July 10, 2013 6:15 p.m.

Have you thought about Undying Evil ? It's just mean on a Thragtusk , and certainly good on Vampire Nighthawk . Though it is a non-bo with Strangleroot Geist and Desecration Demon , and if you ever scavenged Dreg Mangler , so that might just be too much potential negative for the situation upside.
