don't know if you're interested, but one of my favorite creatures to run with corpsejack is Aquastrand Spider . considering you'll be going to modern I figured it was worth a look. It's nice to have the free counters for whatever comes into play. Hilarious deck.

@doodkyle: Thanks for the suggestion. I did take a look at all of the graft creatures and this one would probably be great to combat flyers and/or just slap some extra counters on stuff earlier. The only problem is that I get more joy out of making gigantic creatures than I do out of actually winning games so I'm not particularly worried about speed :P.

I say that as one of my favorite creatures is Mistcutter Hydra since it has haste but you get what I mean lol.

Primordial Hydra one of my friends favorite cards. It might be able to find a home in this deck. Seeing how Corpsejack Menace would make him huge fast, then you can transfer some to your turn taker with Bioshift , rinse wash repeat.

@Taiyouai Primordial Hydra is good but I have to combat control decks very often. Vastwood Hydra is anti-black and Mistcutter Hydra is anti-blue. Is Primordial Hydra better in the long game? Sure. But this is typically a very fast deck for me. I do very much like the expensive fancy hydras but for the most part what I have is possibly faster and more resilient to control decks. Also they are expensive... I don't know if I mentioned that lol

True, well my only other would be maybe add some of the not-as-expensive multi-lands.

Darkslick Shores (Around 4-5 a piece)

Yavimaya Coast (around $3 a piece)

Vivid Lands - Vivid Creek Vivid Grove Vivid Marsh (less than a dollar but enters tapped)

Out of the lands listed, I would add 2 of each of the vivid lands (just my personal preference, you may not like having 6 lands that enter tapped.) and drop 2 of each basic. Reason being is they help with getting your off color mana, and once depleted they still tap for a colored mana.

But that's just my preference I like using multicolored lands when I can.

Ordeal of Nylea gets me 2 lands for attacking once. All of my creatures already have counters so typically as soon as I enchant and attack I get my 2 other colors. Rampant Growth is also there for mana fixing. I think I want to swap them for Cultivate though since my 3 mana slot is literally empty unless I cast a Mistcutter Hydra as a 2/2. As far as my plans go, the special lands would slow me down.

Forgot I recently acquired Golgari Rot Farm x4. The update above explains the usefulness of them. I want Simic Growth Chamber x4 also but I didn't feel like shelling out the monies. I know at roughly $1.00-$1.50 a piece they aren't that pricey but I can't get over paying for special lands when I can do the same thing with basic lands...

@Taiyouai: Ordered the Simic Growth Chamber x4 lol... I figured that since this is by far my favorite deck that I own, throwing another 4 bucks at it won't kill me.

Looks like a fun deck to play. You'll have to let me know how the dual lands work out for ya.

@Taiyouai: I very much like the buddy lands and having more lands in general. Sometimes it sucks to get set back a little mana wise but everything is cheap so it isn't too big of a deal. Plus when I have more than enough lands I can just keep bouncing a buddy land back to my hand to trigger Vinelasher Kudzu every turn.

@HydraOoze: Sure. But that could wait. Not that interested for $2 a pop lol.

Could possibly sideboard Ordeal of Erebos and Ordeal of Thassa for diversity in situations. Thassa for control decks maybe and erebos for midrange decks? Could also maybe swing Doubling Season for giggles if you wanted too seeing that red and black have few options for enchantment hate and plenty of hate for creatures

Also Scute Mob though a pretty one drop doesn't quite work because you only technically have one island. .

@Sir5L: Scute Mob triggers with five or more lands. Not five or more islands. The island is only there to search for should I need a blue mana source.

I do like the suggestion for Ordeal of Thassa though. Twould be nice to draw a bit with extra counters. Couldn't play it on Mistcutter Hydra though... Already have that problem with Bioshift because it is blue.

Sorry I misread Scute Mob and yes that is a little rough for the hydra. Could work with your other creatures on it though spreading up your threats

Vastwood Hydra could be a good in this decked you wanted to more options for moving counters around after it dies

August 25, 2014 9:24 a.m.

MmmK says... #18

I did use Vastwood Hydra for a while. Too slow. Plus my big plan with it was to bioshift its counters to kill it then its ability would trigger for more counters. Then I thought about it and that wouldn't work because if I moved all the counters it would have none to distribute. Tis an option though. Haven't played enough to really make a sideboard but Vastwood Hydra will be there for encounters with black.

Yea it was the only hydra I could think of that could work very well in this deck also have you given any thought to Master Biomancer and Zameck Guildmage

August 25, 2014 1:27 p.m.

MmmK says... #20

I very much enjoy the thought of Master Biomancer but I am trying to make the deck faster. In this light I am trying to stay away from Simic things. They are very cool and can add tons and tons of power but they typically require time to get big. That being said Master Biomancer could easily receive some counters from another creature via Bioshift and essentially kick things into full gear. Especially with Corpsejack Menace on the field. But he would die immediately... We shall see... For now I ordered a playset of Essence Harvest and Strength of the Tajuru . I feel like these will get in the extra damage I want quickly or allow me to trigger Sage of Hours more consistently.

Does this deck actually do well at Moderns? And as a suggestion, modular?

I'm not a tournament player so I don't really know... I play with people who do play competitively at FNM's and I can hold my own fairly well most of the time. I don't have a card shop near me to play at right now but when I go back to college I plan on competing more at card shops. I'm also an RA so I hold my own events on campus as 'community builders' where I am obligated to play magic lol.

It does typically work well for me though but it depends on your playstyle. This is my particular brand of magic.
