Cool, we basically have the same experience then playing the deck, except for the Contagion Engine , to each their own and at the end of the day your playing style also determines what cards are thrown in there.
I'll will have to try the Phyrexian Metamorph very soon.

Ok so I went to my FNM and completely dominated 4-0 1st place with my version of this deck.
Owls and preordain were clutch. I side boarded 2 metamorphs for an owl / lord, and maxed my mana leaks
Only lost 1 round the whole night to a stall / free drop kraken deck..too much mana.
Dominated a burn deck, turn 6, I had a wurmcoil, 2 copies of it and an emperion on the field..this was very common through the night.
People had no clue what kind of aggro blue was coming with last night. The deck went 1-1 for fun against a red / green garruk deck which is very good in its own right.
after playing I think it hands down, without a question needs dismembers / dual land swamp.
The great thing is when you drop a bear, nobody wanted to kill it even with an ability. When the lord drops or two the bear gets nasty and become harder to take down. He caused some issues for people, thats for sure. I'm going to continue tweaking it and playing it.
I do think this decks weakness is going to be white control, hands down.

I have noticed in my games that I am tutoring Steel Hellkite more then I am Wurmcoil Engine .

I took a rendition of this deck to the Grand Prix Trial in my city, I held my own for 2 out of 5 matches, it was a fun and fast paced deck to play and I thoroughly enjoyed using it. Am currently playtesting using Argentum Armor and Augury Owl
I'd love some feedback on what ya think deck:my-grand-illusion, thanks :)

Played the Platinum Emperion in place of the Myr Battlesphere over the weekend. Most games I got it out by turn 4, tutored the Steel Hellkite far more than the Wurmcoil Engine .
Reasoon for the amendment was for playing against A LOT of valukut and tempered steel decks.

yep, nothing says F off to valakut like emperion. Especially when you have multiple hexproof copies :D
I actually had a game stall on me...some chick cloned my emperion, we both sat there and asked each other if we had removal...the answer was no.
Game was considered a draw turn 5

Hahaha!!! Sound somewhat familiar.
Scetch this scenario. 4th turn cast Platinum Emperion . 5 turn cast Mindslaver and activate it in opponents turn. Firstly burn and valakut most of his big ticket titans out of the way and burn himself for a few. Next swing all out at myself with his remaining critters. Platinum Emperion says NO!, block out another tasty critter.
Now my 6th turn with him all but fried and critter crushed.
Swing out and claim the win... like a BOSS!

im building something like this, any tips on how to deal with tempered steel and u/b control? only thing I have that helps me even a little bit against u/b is gitaxian probe. and I have no idea how to play against tempered steel with this deck as I haven't played around much with this.

This deck is amazing. I'm also trying to make a deck like this. :P
Wouldn't Neurok Invisimancer be decent late-game? An unblockable Steel Hellkite or Wurmcoil Engine is pretty devastating even for just a turn IMO. Also, Swiftfoot Boots ? Just picture a hexproof Wurmcoil Engine with haste... O.O

Here is how you play against a tempered steel deck with this deck.
PRAY they get a shit hand
PRAY the don't drop a turn 2 tempered steel thanks to mox opals
PRAY they don't swing for 10 damage turn 3
PRAY you get a turn 3-4 wurmcoil / emperion
yep, pretty much covered it
August 2, 2011 11:02 p.m.
Hahaha epic advice.
to be honest I haven't tested this deck against many archtypes because I dunno whats going to be popular in my meta post rotation. I just play against my friend's casual decks.
August 3, 2011 12:54 a.m.
Steel Sabotage & Mental Misstep are nice against a tempered steel deck, but yeah...

For those of you who are using Platinum Emperion , how good is it really? I know it's situational but in what kind of situations would you rather tutor it over a Steel Hellkite or Wurmcoil Engine ? Also, has anyone considered running Soul Conduit in the sideboard? Seems like a fun card for casual at least, and combined with the Hex Parasite s that I run in my sideboard (for infect and Planeswalker control) I can occasionally have some fun by paying all but 1-2 of my life and then trading my opponent.
August 3, 2011 1:59 p.m.
I don't think something like Hex Parasite would be worth running in a deck like this because I would always want to draw a creature to help me get my big guns out then one to deal with planeswalkers.
That being said, if your meta is completely dominated by infect and planeswalker based decks then I would run it.
August 3, 2011 2:05 p.m.
Leaf_suck, the funniest thing of Hex Parasite is not only eating counters, but using 9 times his ability with x = 0 for 2 life each, and then swap your and your opp's hp with Soul Conduit . Really fun, +1, iConcede.

The beauty is you don't need to counter infect with that, this deck proved itself last weekend with the typical infect.
not sure if you saw, but I played a tweaked version of this deck and went undefeated 4-0 in local FNM...everyone who shows up is pretty good. Some are National qualifiers and some are sponsored
This deck:crushed infect, the only infect i see giving this deck trouble is mono black UBER removal infect or my take on proper infect.... Nick Diaz Douche bag tempered steel!!!
Murdered typical blue counter, wait to strike deck.
Beat down go for the win goblin burn deck. It was close, his only loss was against me.
Ran up on some Valakut (he had mana issues ironically)
along with other meta styled decks.
I think hex parasite would slow you down, this deck is all about getting the big guys out while keeping smaller ones in the mix.

I played this kind of a deck a couple times and it can be very effective. The phantom dragons are actually pretty decent in standard since most removal is kill spell anyway, the exceptions being tumble magnet and into teh roil but those are played less and less.
I will say tho that I don't like the contagion engine here at all nor do I understand why anybody would play negate over mana leak, hands down the best counterspell in teh format. If you want a plus one from me you gotta fix that.
Also for anyone who still hasn't figured it out you can't protect an illusion with counter magic. k thx bye

We figured that out last month
;)
Its about protecting from mass removal / a big fucking creature you don't want on the field.
I'm sorry, but I'm never thrilled when someone puts down a platinum angle or a Abysmall persecutor, against this deck.

I've got Augury owls in my main deck...I'll be switching them out for Metamorphs here and there to see how I like it.
I see you put the Preordains in there. I absolutely love having 7 draw cards (4 ordains 3 ponders)
I use the owls for the scry/draw and a chump block.
Get a Architect on the field, copy to get more +1's etc, copy an owl for more scry and a flyer (have won games with pumped owls lol) and my personal favorite is copying myr Bsphere....tokens out the ass, swing for the win next turn or get damn close to it.
