Do you know how to pilot this deck? It takes practice to play this deck correctly but when you do it can smash face.
I am around a 60% rate with this deck which is pretty good. I recently put this against a ridiculous Birthing Pod deck and went 2-1. The only time he beat me is by bouncing Acidic Slime and nuking my lands.
Still, this deck can be gross when it clicks, which is a good amount of the time.

I know what you mean, I like the deck, and had a similar one I brought to game day. Just minus a few of the artifact fatties. I think I prefer mono green ;)

Mono green has some pretty good beats too.
I just think this deck gets so many votes is because people like the idea and the synergy this deck has. Just like how G can always ramp into fatties, this can churn out a Wurmcoil Engine T3 and Phantasmal Image it for a copy on T4. That's incredibly hard to stop.

Not if you are holding 2 day of judgments... you are not thinking outside the box leaf.

I've played this deck in four tourneys consisting of 18-32 people I have won one with 26 and placed 2nd twice and 3rd once. The only difference is I play with 2 Wurmcoil Engine and no Contagion Engine . It rapes face. The only thing I do is change up my sideboard for fun with Summoning Trap and Emrakul, the Aeons Torn against counter decks. GJ getting it posted out Leafs_suck

Would recommend -1 Myr Battlesphere for +1 Phyrexian Metamorph. You do this because if you don't have that wurmcoil your turns look something like:
1: bear 2: lord3: Image the lord and either bear or preordain t4: Architect, tap lord and architect to metamorph the image. You now have two (or one if you had to dig t3) 6/6 bears, 6/6 image, 6/6 metamorph, 3/3 lord, and 1/3 architect.
I think that board position is better than the wurmcoil, which you could also technically play t4 lol

I ran my version of this deck recently against a VERY experienced Magic player that I've known for a while. His deck was heavy on Planeswalkers and used an infinite life combo which he pulled off quite early. I decided to ride it out and ended up taking his infinite life with my Soul Conduit . He activated the infinite life combo AGAIN, to which I responded by taking control of his turn with Mindslaver , cloning my Hex Parasite with his Phyrexian Metamorph and then activating its ability an infinite number of times. Don't underestimate the power of Hex Parasite s and a Soul Conduit in the sideboard, it worked out better than I ever thought it would!

If someone had a board wipe and you had wurmcoil out you would end up with two 3/3's while the other player having nothing and you could always buried ruin the wurmcoil back

Have only tried my version, Phantom Architecture V2.0, against a few decks so far, but it's been solid. I keep a pair of Dismembers mainboard now, and a pair of Vapor Snags are actually pretty awesome. It's being used a lot lately to bounce whatever gets targeted with powerhouses like Angelic Destiny or even a Batterskull equip.
The one-of Caged Sun has been a blast too. Makes the Illusions even stronger, adds some more mana, and generally is just pretty fun.

Deck has been made Post Rotation. Any feedback on throwing in a Random Karn? Maybe another Molten-Tail Masticore ?

No Karn, too slow. Plus, since he's not n artifact, you would have to hard-cast him, which would make him a dead draw for a while.
I also don't like Molten-Tail Masticore . First of all, you can't fetch him with your Treasure Mage s. Second, I playtested it a bit, and the discard really hurts. So, in order to fuel its bolt-like ability, you would either have to be losing creatures rapidly or you would have to stunt the growth of your field presence. Of course, if you are not concerned with it sticking around for very long, it can turn the tide of the game in your favor. Personally, I don't like it, but it might work for you.
Which reminds me: how does this fare in the mirror?
August 31, 2011 3:23 p.m.
In a mirror you would want a bunch of Unsummon and Vapor Snag . Also, if you tutor for a Contagion Engine , you can wipe the field really quick. Steel Hellkite can deal with a bunch too. Just depends on what weapons you pack in the deck.
I haven't played a.mirror in real life so can't say for sure.

I play with 2 Molten-Tail Masticore s myself. I agree that the discard ability sucks, especially since this deck likes to drop cards fast.
However, it's been a game-changer on a few occasions for me. This deck has more than enough creatures to supply firepower for its damage ability and its not uncommon to have it deal 12 direct damage with the help of Grand Architect .
At worst, it's a 4/4 body for 4 that makes a great blocker.
August 31, 2011 8:13 p.m.
Karn seems like a stretch here. You have to hard-cast it and no flow from Treasure Mage . It's great if you can get him out with all your bigguns. Loving everything else that's going on. Have you thought about Steel Sabotage ? I'm running it side-board. I think it'll be useful given all the artifacts running around now and it can protect your own big boys if they ever face hard times from you opponent. Oblivion Ring s are really pains in the asses, as are Dispatch s when theyre crafted

Why would you remove Mindslaver ? Perhaps you've had different experiences with it than I have but just about every win I've had with this deck has involved Mindslaver to some extent. Also, I'm with those who say that Molten-Tail Masticore is a wasted slot in this deck. No synergy with Treasure Mage and I'd rather play whatever cards I'd need to discard to keep the thing alive.
September 9, 2011 12:30 p.m.
I have yet to use Mindslaver in a single game. I would consider sideboarding it against Birthing Pod decks but it's never done anything for me.
September 9, 2011 1:54 p.m.
That's too bad, I've had a ton of fun with Mindslaver . On another note, I'll be using this deck in a full-blown tournament for the first time this weekend so it'll be interesting to see how it does. I'm trying to decide if I should stick with my Vapor Snag s and Negate s for control or if I should replace them with Disperse s and Mana Leak s as I see you have done. Any suggestions?
September 9, 2011 4:59 p.m.
Disperse is more versatile so I perfer it. Mana Leak and Negate is just personal preference.

Updated the deck's sideboard to be more versatile post rotation, with the biggie being Nihil Spellbomb .

Leafs_suck i knew that Nihil Spellbomb was going to be ridiculous in the new standard. i just pulled my playset out earlier today before seeing you update this deck.
i'm gonna finally try this out at FNM this week.

Leafs_suck I'm thinking about moving in a control direction, the aggro version of this deck owns, and I want to keep the illusion/architect theme, but post rotation I was thinking about trying Throne of Empires , Scepter of Empires and Crown of Empires . I havent really played control, and this would be my first attempt, but alot of people play control in my meta and I can't seem to keep my creatures on the field long enough to do any real damage.
September 12, 2011 3:24 a.m.
I'm happy to say that I made it into the top 4 at the tournament over the weekend. I know Mindslaver hasn't worked well for you but it won me more than half of my games. It was also a pain in the ass to play sometimes, but still worth it overall. Nihil Spellbomb is definitely on my list of sideboard additions post rotation, but what about adding Surgical Extraction as well? At the very least it would give you a peek at their entire arsenal.
