This is a really great deck. My friend has been running it for Friday Night Magic and he likes it a lot.
Have you considered Artful Dodge? It could be used to get damage in with your Phantasmal Bear s, as well as being a way to trigger Steel Hellkite's ability against decks with flying blockers. As a sideboard card against spirit tokens and Delver it could be really great way to create tempo.

One possibility would be to splash a little black and add Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas for more artifact-digging, damage, and life-gain. His -1 won't be very helpful, but his other abilities are. just four Drowned Catacomb would do it without slowing you down at all.

I cut one Chimeric Mass for a extra Island. Are there cards from AVR which could boost this deck?

Have you considered Infinite Reflection? You could bring it in attached to your wurmcoil!

That new Jace's Phantasm seems strictly better than Phantasmal Bear. Trading 1 power and 1 toughness for flying and the potential to become a 5/5 later on? Yes please. Not to mention it doesn't come with the sacrifice clause. It's just too bad (yet kind of impressive) that it took this long for an obvious upgrade to the deck. I know most of this deck is gonna rotate in October, but at least we'll have another 3 months to abuse the crap out of it once M13 is released.

I'll be remaking this into a modern deck once it rotates. I'm not really gonna change it until then.
June 21, 2012 4:21 a.m.
I've been Modernizing mine in preparation for the rotation, so I'll make a few suggestions based on the changes I'm making:
Lord of the Unreal , Phantasmal Image , Grand Architect and Treasure Mage are a package deal. For as long as I'll have this deck I don't see those specific cards changing. They are the framework for the rest of the deck.
I'll be replacing Phantasmal Bear with jace's phantasm since that seems strictly better (as per my earlier post).
Since Ponder is banned in Modern, I searched far and wide for a solid replacement (and I couldn't use Preordain either since that's also banned). I settled on Drift of Phantasms . It's Transmute ability let's you fetch Grand Architect and Treasure Mage , which are the only things I try to get with Ponder anyway.
Finally, Modern opens the door to several new tasty 6+ CMC artifacts, including Memnarch , Sundering Titan , card:Akroma's Memorial and Darksteel Forge .

Okay, why the lack of use of Adaptive Automaton ? tap out blue creatures to get a buff to either your wurms, illusions, or anything that needs a buff...as well as getting a buff for being an illusion (if you call illusions when it enters the field) and for the best field...Phantasmal Image a Lord of the Unreal and then image an automaton and all illusions get a mass buff and you will always have a lord and automaton for a buff, which makes all illusions Slagstorm -proof as the weakest illusion is a 2/2 bear...just my input

Why is Contagion Engine in this?... if its to get rid of things why not Devastation Tide seems easier
July 7, 2012 4:30 p.m.
card:Phyrexia's Core to destroy Spine of Ish Sah and Ichor Wellspring .. spine is great.
July 8, 2012 11:33 p.m.
Throne of Geth would also help with both of the above mentioned but would also add syngery with your Contagion Engine . card:Phyrexia's Core is great because it's a land.

How about 1x card:Akroma's Memorial for the lol factor
July 9, 2012 9:13 p.m.
@brballer42 you beat me to card:Akroma's Memorial lol, the protection from red would be devastating for this deck. that aside this deck is insane, one of my personal favorites on this site +1

This was an exact replica of my grand architecture deck before I took it down. It was up here maybe one year ago and had blightsteel colossus/xenograph instead of tamiyo and temporal mastery. Kind of funny to see it ranked so high now, I think.

blightsteel is a GREAT card for this deck, really, it takes a tad longer to get out, but the fact that you can get an 11/11 out is incredible

Ok first of all this deck is a masterpiece, you inspired me to build this and play it for a month. Then I started looking at many different cards that I liked for the deck some failed and others succeeded, finale I got it just just how I wanted it and I had made it my own and I felt accomplished and happy about it and it made me a better magic player for it, so thanks for posting your deck. I will sincerely miss my first good deck when it goes out of standard.

This was the deck that made me site famous and I'll never make a deck that is as good and played so well for me. This deck has a winning percentage in the .800 range against all of my friend's decks. I play with 6 or so different friends regularly and this baby took on modern decks with ease. It's amazing how far this deck has come and I wanna thank each and every one of you who has supported deck.
I have already begun making a separate deck on here that is a modern version, and I'll unveil it fairly soon hopefully,
And yes, card:Akroma's Memorial will be in it.

I noticed you are running 4 Grafdigger's Cage in the sideboard. have you considered putting Trinket Mages in the sideboard? that way you can use Trinket Mage to get Grafdigger's Cage or any other small artifact like Elixir of Immortality. Also, you can use Trinket Mage to get Chimeric Mass if you want to (In my opinion, though, Chimeric Mass is not as good as some of the other big artifacts in standard that you could be running instead. Anyway, my long speech is over. I really like the deck! +1
