Yeah, they're all fair points.
Originally, this deck was built around using Graveblade Marauder (Grim Haruspex, in here, until tappedout updates), but I figure that there'll always be stuff in the 'yard anyway.
I never liked Skaab Goliath in Innistrad, just because it has such a high curve, so I doubt I'll be including that. I'm really liking Despoiler of Souls in this; on a similar topic, what do you think of Empty the Pits?
I'll also find spots for Corpseweft, because it seems super cool.
Thanks dude!

No sweat!
I dig Empty the Pits! I haven't seen it in action though, it might be hard to pull off. The fact that its at instant speed is super cool. I can imagine your opponent board wiping, then in their end step you empty the pits everything in your yard except Risen Executioner, then on your turn cast the executioner and swing in with 3/3's!
You should test it as a 1 or 2 of (as it looks like you are), or maybe even just keep it in the sideboard as an option against control.

Yeah I've been giving this a bit of a test recently and these changes have ramped it up heaps. Empty the Pits is excellent, especially when in combination with Risen Executioner like you mentioned.
This deck is really good against control, I've noticed, and again, Empty the Pits helps a lot. I took a Duress out of the sideboard and put another Empty the Pits in, because Duress was there for control anyway.
Thanks again

Have you looked into Necromancer's Stockpile? I run a few of those in my current standard deck Zombie Apocalypse , which I will need to be updating soon for the new standard formant

Yeah I like the look of that deck heaps dude (+1 btw), but it's rotating out relatively soon.
I do like the idea of Necromancer's Stockpile; I'm thinking of taking out few Palace Familiars for a combination of them and Bloodsoaked Champion.
Thanks heaps dude

One shortcoming I've always noticed is how zombies don't have any sort of evasion to close the deal, so to speak. Ergo, I'd suggest Scrapskin Drake (because you won't care about blocking anyway) and Mogis's Marauder (but you might not want to roll with that- if you're trying to stick post-rotation it won't do)
July 19, 2015 3:55 a.m.
GriffinRider says... #8
Yeah I actually have been noticing that. Having a bunch of zombies on the ground isn't always good.
Regarding Mogis's Marauder: you're dead on there, I've considered him and just don't want to get used to him and then have to pitch him in 3 months. Whilst we're on the topic, I've included Temple of Deceit purely because it's not something that I'll have problems without, and I have 3 sitting around. Necromancer's Stockpile is in currently, but:
I've noticed that the 2 enchantments Corpseweft, and the aformentioned Necromancer's Stockpile are nearly always dead weight. If I find them with Taigam's Scheming, I nearly always pitch them for Delve-Bait. I can almost always find better 2 and 3 drops aswell. For this reason, I'm dumping both of them for Scrapskin Drake, which will probably turn into another evasive zombie come the Battle for Zendikar block. It also helps with colour balancing.
Updating the description shortly to reflect these changes.
Thanks for commenting and +1ing guys! Means a lot!

IF you are looking for a little card draw combo, Grim Haruspex is great with Nantuko Husk and Bloodsoaked Champion.

Yeah, I've been considering that for quite a while now. I think this is the push I needed to find room for him. Thanks for the comment, stay tuned for an update soon :)

Shadows of the Past looks like it would do great in this build.

Yeah, that's a really good point. I'll see if I can make some room for it, otherwise I might leave it until post-rotation.
Thanks heaps!

I would throw in a Ruthless Deathfang at the top of your curve. With Nantuko Husk, you can wipe the opponent's board and attack ftw.
August 30, 2015 11:36 p.m.
If you were doing to use a Grave Pact effect, I would recommend Dictate of Erebos, that way you can flash it at the end of their turn, and not waste mana on your turn.

Oh, and if you're running Risen Executioner and all those returnable weenies, I'd go for Fleshbag Marauder, too. Also, I would save yourself $8 and simply add another Gurmag Angler in place of Tasigur, the Golden Fang. With the 3 copies of the Executioner, the extra 1-2 power for 1 mana/exiled card is worth it. I actually came across this deck while searching for Nantuko Husk decks to better this one I'm designing: Ruthless Husk. I started from the Nantuko Husk+Ruthless Deathfang combo and worked from there, so it ended up BUG when I decided to add Gather the Pack, which is bonkers on top of Sidisi, Brood Tyrant.

triproberts12 and joecross, thanks for both of your suggestions. I really like the Ruthless Deathfang idea, especially because it provides a relevant flying body. To be honest, I think I like it a little more that Dictate of Erebos, for that reason. Also, it has a small amount of synergy with Crux of Fate.
Regarding the Tasigur, the Golden Fang, I've played with various ratios of him and Gurmag Angler, and I think 1:2 is the best; it provides me with 3 meaty delve bodies, aswell as some variation in my game plan. Gurmag Angler does synergise nicely with Risen Executioner, granted, but Tasigur's ability is incredibly useful. Thanks though.
Fleshbag Marauder is a card I've been considering for a while now, and it will probably end up mainboard when I can figure out what to drop. He's awesome, triggers death affects, can be used as an edict in worst case scenario, and is a Zombie to boot. Thanks so much for suggesting that, I think I'll endeavour to find room for him now.
Regarding your deck Ruthless Husk, it looks brilliant man. This deck was originally Sultai, back when I was trying to make Graveblade Marauder work, but I dropped it eventually and haven't really thought about it since. It does look pretty potent, however, and I especially like Gather the Pack. Have you considered Become Immense? Anyway, +1 from me mate, I'll repost all this on your deck aswell.
Thanks heaps guys, for all the +1s and comments, it's really bringing this deck together :)

Why not go sultai? Evolutionary Leap and Gather the Pack are both excellent cards for what you're trying to do. Not to mention with all these sac outlets, Liliana, Heretical Healer Flip seems really strong, especially when you're playing so much delve. Hangarback Walker is pure value to sacrifice to a Nantuko Husk
This is what im currently playing. Im playing something relatively different, but there is some overlapping ideas. Golgari evolutionary leap

Pwnaged, thanks for the suggestions mate. Primarily, I really can see Evolutionary Leap and Gather the Pack doing great here, but this deck was originally Sultai, and I think I'd like to keep it as Dimir now. I may make a Sultai or even Golgari version lately, but I'd like this deck to stay relatively the same now that it's gone under major changes.
Liliana, Heretical Healer Flip seems like a nice card on paper, but in actuality I found her underwhelming in this build. One of the updates lists my full thoughts on her, and why I dropped her.
Lastly, Hangarback Walker is, undoubtedly good, yes. However, I think I'd rather sacrifice things with their own effects (Shambling Goblin) or things that can come back (Despoiler of Souls, Bloodsoaked Champion). Besides, a case can be made for Hangarback Walker in nearly every deck, but I really don't want it here, for that very reason.
Thanks for all your suggestions though. And +1 on your deck aswell, I really like the concept.

Thanks dude!
Yeah, it's been about 6 weeks of refinement and it's currently at a point where I'm super happy about it. It started off as a goofy combo that would never actually work, and now this deck actually does really well. Seeing words of encouragement just makes my day.
Thanks again, and if you've got a standard deck I'd love to look over it. Just leave a link on my wall or something, if you want.

Did something very similar in my deck: The Sultai's of Swing, only difference being the CoCo's that I actually have, but can't put in due to it being a budget deck. Glad to see that you took the inspiration from A(ESPER)CRATS as well and included Mirror Mockery! I've been trying to spread the word on that card for ages now and am glad to see others liking it so much! I honestly would put 2 more in due to it's versatility, but that's might be just me and completely biased. Maybe by cutting 1 Blisterpod & your Ultimate Price. MAYBE. But that's ultimately your decision. In any case, +1 from me for both the Mockery Combo and a solid deck.
As always feel free to completely disregard my advice. If it's fun, don't change it. Whatever works, works. Have a good one, friend! May your rolls be high and your crits be many!

Wait just a minute there... NO Catacomb Sifters?! Dude, the card is simply too good not to run. I'd take out all copies of Blisterpod for it. Sure, it's a turn one play, but those are slotted by your Bloodsoaks. Additionally, in the late game, they don't hold as much value as a Sifter. You can even CoCo for them! A 2 for 1 CoCo blocker that you can scry off of? Yes, please! Again, your choice, but I highly recommend them!

Hey there. I've actually looked over your deck and it was really solid, I believe I +1ed it.
I did indeed see your little post on A(ESPER)CRATS and decide to put in Mirror Mockery, and it is absolutely brilliant. It is actually the most janky thing when I have Nantuko Husk and Whirler Rogue on the field. I've decided to run only two, as this deck has very little room to spare, and I really only want to draw one copy of it.
RE Catacomb Sifter: I've though great lengths about this, but the reason it's not in there currently is a two part:
1) Not enough room, and it makes it even more difficult to hit those mana costs on time
2) If I have three mana open, I will always cast a Nantuko Husk, if I can. It's the centrepiece of this deck, and it just does so much work.
I really do want to include Catacomb Sifter, don't get me wrong, but I just don't think it would replace the efficiency that I lose out on, purely because of it's mana cost. I'm open to other points of view though; what exactly would you drop to fit it?
In any case, thanks heaps dude, I really appreciate that Mirror Mockery card.

Hey thanks
Sultai Emissary did actually be part of this deck, but I had to take him out with Liliana, Heretical Healer Flip. Without her, he lost a great deal of power, and Bloodsoaked Champion / Blisterpod became strictly better.
Thanks heaps for the suggestion and +1

I know its not in the zombie tribe, but you should look into running Despoiler of Souls to thin out your graveyard so Risen Executioner can recur for cheaper.
Skaab Goliath is a beast too, but he might be a bit high for your curve.
Also, Corpseweft makes zombies and thins out your yard.
+1, cool stuff!
