Black Market is a must, sac outlets like Ashnod's Altar, and Phyrexian Altar are amazing as well.

Grave Pact, Attrition, Black Market, Solemn Simulacrum, Grave Betrayal, for starters would help maybe From Beyond and Awakening Zone along with any other ways to create eldrazi spawn or scions. I actually run this commander as well an can be a lot of fun. I find that the scions with Grave Pact or similar is just brutal on the opponents then Grave Betrayal to steal what they sacrifice

Heartless Summoning + Myr Retriever = infinite experience counters/death triggers/enters the battlefield triggers Melira, Sylvok Outcast + any creature with persist = infinite experience counters/death triggers/enters the battlefield triggers

Sheoldred, Whispering One is amazing in here. Strands of Night also works well. Crucible of Worlds but its pricey. Life from the Loam is good. Dredge works wonders for you.

Gutter Grime seems like a fun include, and offers lots of saccable tokens.

Stinkweed Imp is a nice dredge enabler

Dawntreader Elk is almost a second Tribe Elder, though you might prefer the Yavimaya elder already in the Maybeboard.

I always felt that Corpse Augur as already a pretty solid card for this deck, though maybe you cut it due to a preference for token sacrifice?

I feel like Fleshbag Marauder is awesome when recurred for Meren.

Gate to Phyrexia is a nice sac outlet and repeatable artifact removal.

Pattern of Rebirth is good creature replacement and tutoring

I run Strionic Resonator to double Meren's ability. It costs 2 but to pull another creature out sure. I also recommend Avenger of Zendikar for token generation.

Of all the suggestions above, Strionic Resonator I have to agree with the most strongly. I'd also suggest Sculpting Steel because who doesn't want a second Strionic Resonator?

If you really want to exploit Meren, there's also It That Betrays/Grave Betrayal. Grave Pact, Dictate of Erebos, Butcher of Malakir, sac one creature, steal nine.

Nim Deathmantle is an absolute must in any recursion deck, and with Avenger of Zendikar/Abhorrent Overlord and Ashnod's Altar, you have an infinite mana/token/experience counter combo.

Gray Merchant of Asphodel. Because he's an asshole.

I like Elderscale Wurm in my Meren deck. It doesn't do quite as much early on as Doomgape, but if you're on the backfoot and about to lose, he can stall it for a REALLY long time.

Perilous Forays + Avenger of Zendikar can net you some big plants fast.

Pelakka Wurm or Brindle Boar. Absolutely useless anywhere else. Hilarious in Meren.

Sepulchral Primordial. So when you're done clearing their board with Grave Pact, you can take all of their things away. Then recur him and do it again.

Necrogenesis. Just in case something hits graveyard that you REALLY want gone.

Golgari Germination for free tokens.

Okay. I'll go away now.

Just realized Strionic Resonator is already on the list. Feeling dumb. Also missed the part about not liking infinite combos. Feeling more dumb.

Thanks to every one commenting. I'm currently on a tablet, so I can't respond or edit very easily, but I am reading your suggestions.

+1 nice deck

have you tried Carnifex Demon?

January 28, 2016 11:20 a.m.

Entari0 says... #14

While yes, Carnifex Demon provides a good sac outlet, it does not fit very well with the deck I am trying to build. The major problem is that I can only use its ability two times before I have to blink it out of and back into play, and I don't want to be putting two -1/-1 counters onto all my creatures, because there are some that will stick around, like Meren, Doomgape, Glissa, and Sheoldred, for example.

what about Greater Good it is aother sac outlet and it gave you more cards and and discard some cards to your graveyard

First off, love the deck. Never even thought about using flip walkers! Second, Spore Frog is quite fun in Meren as an early game Fog. Deadbridge Chant has been working well, as well as Pharika, God of Affliction to help mitigate other grave plays at the table. Hope this helps a bit and would love some feedback on my own version!

Im curious, why no Grave Pact? I mean I understand that sometimes it finds its way to the graveyard and you cant recur it as easily but thats where Eternal Witness comes in handy. Just curious to your reasoning

I don't have Grave Pact in there primarily because I don't own one. I do own a Dictate of Erebos and Butcher of Malakir, both of which fulfill the same roll. Also, when I started work on this deck, it was out of my budget limits. I may swap the Dictate of Erebos out for it if I manage to pick one up.

In my experience with Meren having that Dictate of Erebos effect as much as possible is amazing, so if Grave Pact were to go in I wouldn't recommend taking out Dictate. Also hey why not check out my deck Meren, The Caller of Scions I'm seeing more and more eldrazi in meren decks but I feel like mine is the closest to eldrazi tribal out of the meren decks i've seen/ +1 from me!

Wouldn't Praetor's Counsel negate everything you've worked for with Meren of Clan Nel Toth ? I'm pretty new to mtg so im still learning. When would be a good time to do that with this deck? (not meaning this in a negative way if that is now it sounds...just curious)

February 25, 2016 4:10 a.m.

Entari0 says... #21

While Praetor's Counsel does get all my creatures from my graveyard to hand, it also, and more importantly, gets my other spells back. It allows me to recur things like my wrath effects, spot removal, and any other things that I mill accidentally. It also givers me no max hand size, so I no longer have to discard to size at the end of my turns. Lastly, by the time I can cast it, I already have plenty of mana, and I can just re-cast the creatures I get back. Ultimately, I would rather have creatures in play than in my graveyard, the graveyard is just the second best spot for them

Buried Alive can definately give you a nice early game graveyard, Life from the Loam can help grab lands and expand your grave very fast.

No Carrion Feeder? Sure he can't block, but he's one third the cost of Nantuko Husk and his boosts are permanent.

I run a list thats very similar and I would recommend a few card:

I'd run a few more tutor effects: Buried Alive, Vampiric Tutor, Demonic Tutor (In that order more or less)

Some more Eternal Witness like effects will help: I use a Skullwinder which is nice if Eternal Witness gets exiled and still gives you better card advantage then the opponent you choose. (I'm also thinking of play testing Greenwarden of Murasa but I'm not sure)

Also you might want some good self mill to fill up your graveyard ASAP. Apart form Altar of Dementia I would recommend Mesmeric Orb. It fills your graveyard quick for free after it's cast and your opponents just hate it cause if they don't get value from their graveyard it's just eats there cards.

Lastly I just recommend so other good stuff that helps. Eldrazi Monument: Sac Outlet that closes out games fastMindslicer: I've seen people scoop after it his the graveyard and you just get to set it up for max card advantage.Coffin Queen: Very powerful with a good Sac Outlet, also helps Meren with the really full graveyard.
