Into the Woods We Go!

Introduction

Welcome guys and gals to Randomthing's Guide To Green EDH! I've played a lot of variations of green decks, from Borborygmos Enraged to Animar, Soul of Elements but I always find myself wanting to come back to the verdant wilds of mono-green. This deck is green good stuff, meaning that it plays the best cards green has to offer, abusing what green does best: ramp and play creatures. This is not the kind of deck that builds around its commander, instead your commander serves to support the deck if needed. The goal of this deck is to show off as many staples of green without an inherent reliance on your commander. And thus Nissa, Vastwood Seer   was chosen to guide us through the forest! Nissa, Vastwood Seer   provides solid utility while also being a value creature all on her own. If you found this deck useful don't forget to give it upvote! If you thought this deck was despicable, instead provide constructive feedback in the comments section!

Pros and Cons of Yeva, Nature's Herald

  • Insane consistency. You have the best ramp options in the format and you will speed through the early game. getting to six mana as early as turn two.

  • Mana efficiency. Most of your creatures will give you the best bang for your buck, and with an abundance of mana your X spells get dangerously powerful.

  • Threat Diversity. There isn't any one creature that your opponents have to answer to shut you down. An early game Managorger Hydra is just as potent as that late game Hydra Broodmaster. Even if they stop one, the threats keep coming.

  • Creature toolbox. Since all of your creatures mono green, you have access to every creature tutor. Making getting whatever creature you need at any given moment extremely accessible.

  • Lack of removal. Though this deck has some removal built in with things such as Beast Within and Song of the Dryads, these wont deal with a swarm of creatures that need to be dealt with. If you feel you do need more green boardwipes something like The Great Aurora might be good. For more targeted removal Prey Upon effects are good such as Nature's Way or Savage Punch but most these are heavily reliant on having a sizable body out.

  • Booms and Busts. Some games will be explosive, putting down and monstrosity your Hydra Broodmaster for 20 20/20 by turn 6. Other games might have most your big boys dealt with leaving you and your mana dorks twiddling your fingers.

  • One Color. As with most mono colored commander decks, you do one thing REALLY well, for green that's play creatures like a mad man, but that's it. You can try to protect those creatures, but they will be answered. The best you can do is muscle through it and just keep doing what you do best: Play. More. Creatures.

How the Deck Functions:

This deck works similarly to midrange builds in other formats. Staircase creatures as you ramp into more potent threats into the late game. You begin with small but relevant creatures in the early game such as Birds of Paradise, Fauna Shaman, and Managorger Hydra all the while ramping with cards such as Nature's Lore and Three Visits. this puts you roughly two turns ahead of most players, allowing you to play six drops at minimum on turn four.

As I stated in the pros section, this deck shines at always having the right creature at the right time thanks to the toolbox nature of its design. With a total of 9 tutors, some of which put the creature directly onto the field, you'll always have that Reclamation Sage thanks to your Green Sun's Zenith or Woodland Bellower. All that too convoluted? Just need a clean sweep for artifact AND enchantments instead? for the same amout of mana in Green Sun's Zenith you can just grab a Bane of Progress.
