No, it really doesn't. I've tried, and a beater really does nothing for the deck. My turn 2 has to be spent accelerating myself (mana, or card-wise), or I lose. This deck cannot afford to give up early turns, since most modern decks win right around the time I do my soft lock.

Here man, take a look at this, it might give you some ideas or more direction:
It's one of my favorite brews and I've had a ton of success with it.
Let me know if it's helpful or whatever.

That's a little different, since you just want to eliminate their lands (plus it sounds like a budget format, so less powerful). I actually want to top-deck every land I eliminate, since having them waste a draw AND lose a land hurts tons more. It's basically a Time Walk, but in a different form.
Pretty sure you understand how devastating that is, since you run Plow Under and Primal Command also.

Couple things, first while yes this deck was built for a budget league that my local LGS has, it in no way makes it "less powerful". I can honestly say there really isn't much I would change about this deck at all and it's fine for regular competetive Modern. I don't need fetch lands etc, as I'm basically mono green, and I like the scry lands as an extra 1 drop option and dig ability. The ramp package is much more effective than BOP etc, as they are bringing actual lands from my deck and I don't care if they get killed or whatever, and they provide excellent chump blockers in the early game, and it's hilarious when most of my games are won by slowly swinging in with coiling oracles and tribe elders!
Second, I'm not sure what you mean when you say I'm only destoying their lands and not too decking them? Only my acid moss does that, and it also provides additional ramp in the process making it insult to injury...acidic slime works as well, but is also there for the utility of enchantment/artifact hate. Other than that I am recurring plow unders w/ noxious revivals and primal commands...Give it a test play, it's really very consistent, and once it's going, it's way too hard for any fair deck to handle.
November 21, 2015 4:15 p.m.
That's exactly what I am saying though, I do not want to ever destroy their lands without topdecking one first. I do not want my opponent to be able to draw into an answer.
Once again, your deck is very different from this one, since it was made for a different meta. Firespout is a major reason I run all my fetches. It is important at times that I can cast it without a green, to save my Birds of Paradise. Another nice interaction with my fetches, is I can bring them back with Eternal Witness if I need a land that badly. You run a lot of bigger creatures than me also, my only "fatty" is Deus of Calamity, which I rarely use. Often an attrition creature is better, like Ohran Viper. While our decks might have the same overall goals, it is accomplished in a far different way. Most of my games are won by way of Birds of Paradise with exalted triggers, since most modern decks are capable of blocking 1/1s, but cannot deal with fliers as easily. I don't want to add in more fatties either as a win condition, if they are not needed.
I will give the Coiling Oracles and Sakura-Tribe Elder a shot though, because I definitely considered tribe elder before, but had no other option to back it up. It'd be great if there was another similar card for a turn 1 play though. I find myself simply too slow of a deck without a turn one play.

That's where search for tomorrow's really shines, turn one search, turn two tribe elder, turn 3 plow under...
Also, coiling oracle is AMAZING with hallimar depths
November 21, 2015 4:59 p.m.
Yeah, but no access to that land until turn three sadly. There's times I really want 3 mana turn 2, to reset the board with Firespout. Aggro decks have really been on the rise lately too, so much so that I've been considering a Thragtusk in the sideboard.
November 21, 2015 5:04 p.m.
Yeah, Sakura tribe elder will help somewhat with the aggro, but I agree you need more than just that...also I went back and forth over running thragtusk over the pelakka wurm, but wurm won in the end as the bigger trample body and the card draw is nice if I ever start to run out of gas, plus main deck anti-burn help is nice to have in a pinch.
November 21, 2015 5:24 p.m.
I have enough lifegain in the form of Primal Command + Eternal Witness. Looping that 3 times gives me plenty of time to recover further. Then game two, once Bow of Nylea comes in, it's over.
I'm unsure if I want the elders now, I don't think I can fit them in, since the new adjustments require lots of "forests", and they won't be able to mana fix in a pinch without hurting my manabase slightly.
November 21, 2015 5:29 p.m.
They are not so much for mana fixing as they are for mana ramping, and chump blocking...plus your mana base supports them just fine, and you could replace 2 forests with extra copies of breeding pool and stomping ground for the "fixing" if it's that big of a deal, and like you said, you have plenty of life gain that a couple more shocks won't hurt you too bad.
That being said, in regards to the pelakka, I agree 100% that thragtusk is almost always better, it just runs really smoothly in my set up and I really enjoy the card draw from him
November 21, 2015 5:38 p.m.
-1 Nissa-1 Deus-1 Recross the paths
+3 Sakura
Try that to start and if you can fit a 4th I would...I'm not sure how much I like the cyclonic rift main deck, but I'd rather replace it with a second noxious revival...
November 21, 2015 5:40 p.m.
My dilemma is with the elders is that I have so much to consider, it's not just a simple swap.
First of all, I have the option of adding a Mountain and/or Island, for fixing. Pretty sure neither color is unsupported enough to justify that. Would rather leave the mana-base purely as it is (everything is a forest).
Secondly, they'd be replacing Birds of Paradise + Noble Hierarch. That's a major win-condition. There's certain decks that set up a formidable defense, relatively fast, which my birds swing through when I am unable to remove it. I'd have to come up with another win strategy for such decks...
I do like the idea of fast blockers that still ramp me, but I do need to consider the win-strategy first.
November 21, 2015 5:48 p.m.
Ignore everything I just said about the shock lands...I re-read tribe elder lol, I was thinking you were saying he only fetches "forests" and I didn't even stop to think about it haha
November 21, 2015 5:50 p.m.
Then just take out the Deus and a single Nissa...you don't really lose anything and you get a little bit more consistency and anti-aggro at the same time
November 21, 2015 5:52 p.m.
Recross the Paths is actually quite amazing in here. It interacts with the whole top-decking of lands, and allows me to find Boseiju, Who Shelters All with a spell they won't normally counter. Also the lands can come in untapped, so it is essentially a 2 mana ramp spell.
I could see myself dropping a Nissa, Worldwaker, but that still won't save the birds package enough, the 3/2 split is lowest it can go already.
Cyclonic Rift mainboard is essentially a spot removal spell for just about anything, that is a win-more if I am able to overload it. There are a few big creatures I just can't get through in game 1 sometimes.
I think my best bet at this point is to consider evasive finishers I don't need to worry about protecting.
November 21, 2015 6:01 p.m.
I think I found the answer in a card released after I initially made the deck...
Narset, Enlightened Master - I know it's REALLY off color, but it can definitely be supported. It has Hexproof, which is huge. And the effect...HOLY SHIT, the synergy. Planeswalkers, or any of my desired Sorceries, in the top 4??? That's amazing. It has first strike with 3 power also, which is huge, since most problem creatures are 3 toughness.
All I really need to do is re-add a white land, and boom it's supported again.
November 21, 2015 6:11 p.m.
Yeah I guess it's just a matter of how married to the exalted BOP win-con you are...I find this kind of deck works better when you first focus on HOW you are going to ramp and stall first, THEN let the win con be an after thought...that's where my single terastodon comes in lol
November 21, 2015 6:11 p.m.
Yup! Narset is your terastodon! LolPlus it justifies running tribe elders more!
November 21, 2015 6:13 p.m.
Well, it's non-creature, but yeah, it is extremely powerful in here, since all my "game-enders" are noncreature.
It does make me want to fit in Search for Tomorrow now though, sigh...
November 21, 2015 6:18 p.m. Edited.
I meant the tribe elders can search out the plains you need
November 21, 2015 6:21 p.m.
Oh, I believe the shocks/fetches fix that enough. I also have Utopia Sprawl. However, if I can fit Search for Tomorrow also, It would justify a few basics (and probably swapping around some of the fetches).
November 21, 2015 6:25 p.m.
Added another land too, since there's a little too much deck thinning at this point, what do you think?
November 21, 2015 6:34 p.m.
I think it's starting to look a LOT better than where we started! It's definitely the right direction

love the idea, but wouldn't shuffle effects or blue spells like serum visions easily break the lock? Maybe you should add add discard as well.

If you have the budget Tarmogoyf would work well.
