cycle in some tokens that sting (pun intended): Hornet Queen + Hornet Nest

Sorry haysmafia1, but I've already considered those cards, they just aren't reliable enough to use for this deck

@ haysmafia1 I tend to agree with kingalvin.

Hornet Queen happens to work hilariously well in a deck utilizing Wild Pair , since you can pull it out with some really low cost creatures, and I can see it being ridiculous with Parallel Lives but to fit it in here would require a huge overhaul of the deck. I don't know if it would be worth it.

Hornet Nest is a lot like Roc Egg in that while it can serve as an effective deterrent no one will willingly give you the satisfaction of actually getting those tokens unless they're already swinging for the win. For Token decks the problem is they just don't reliably get out tokens when you need them.

Thanks for the explanation jraynor, that sums it up pretty well.

I'm considering adding in one or two Entreat the Angels to either the mainboard or sideboard for defending against decks with heavy flyers and to make late game draws count and a Sword of Fire and Ice for its draw ability and protection for red and blue. Anyone's opinion on the matter would be appreciated.

Hey when Khans comes out, you can put the green/white fetches in! Just letting you know.

OK I'll have to check into those Antipocalypse, thanks for the heads up.

Wayfaring Temple could be a tasty addition. Beefy, with just a hint of populate.

Yeah I've tried Wayfaring Temple before Buckminsterfullerene, but there were other cards that worked better and deserved a slot more but I may look into it again and see if it helps the early board presence.

I like the deck a lot. I have a lot of the cards also. And I want to get into modern. So how is this deck against other modern deck? What are the bad match ups and good match ups?

September 25, 2014 5:53 p.m.

kingalvin says... #11

Well I'd say that the bad match ups for this deck are definitely decks with a heavy amount of creatures with flying. Another bad match up tends to be heavy control decks but it is still possible to win in either situation if you play your cards right and get good draws.

I've been tinkering with a deck idea like this. I really like the token strategy, and I was thinking of a few nice interactions to use in mine. My deck would not be as competitive as this list I think, but it would be fun in casual games for sure. Some of my ideas include: Wayfaring Temple + Fists of Ironwood , Knotvine Paladin + Scatter the Seeds , and of course Intangible Virtue . Maybe you could give me advice on what's been working for you? For reference here's my (very rough) list. Swarming Selesnya

Thanks and +1!

Thanks for the +1 GeminiSpartanX and I'd be glad to take a look at your deck and see how I could help.

I have 2 parallel lives in because they work better, in my opinion, than growing ranks and it doesn't really work to have both

GobStoppers says... #16

If you want, you could drop those three Call of the Conclave s and put in three Fleecemane Lion s. They're not tokens, but still having an indestructible, hexproof 4/4 is quite troublesome.

Alright, hear me out: GUW with Wayfaring Temple and things like Followed Footsteps , Cackling Counterpart , and Fated Infatuation . Hit up the tample and have a self-replicating army that's strength and numbers grow geometrically.

kingalvin says... #18

Fleecemane lion just doesn't work very well. That is a very interesting idea Buckminsterfullerene I won't change this list but I might have to make a new list and give GUW a try.

Only 1 elspeth, she should be a 3/4-of if you plan to play this at a competitive level

Have you considered Voice of Resurgence ? I think it has a home here as a mainboard as pressure :)

Aefinn says... #21

You say that it doesn't work to have both Growing Ranks and Parallel Lives in this deck. I run pretty similar deck (No mr. Bond, I expect you to populate) and I can assure you that it works very well :) Not to mention the fact that both of those abilities stack if you have multiple of them on the table.

kingalvin says... #22

Sorry Luutamo I think I stated that incorrectly. Those two cards are both great and work really wel togetherl but when it comes to modern you want to have other cards in the place of growing ranks

November 6, 2014 10:11 p.m.

Growing Ranks could really help.

Like you to look at another deck...same to you xzzane: You should have read the text. This is my competitive Selesnya deck. Not perfect but it's enough to separate the men from the boys at FNM. The I ky suggestion for your deck is that you may have too many instants and personally...I dont like Armada Worm. Overall, nice build but consider Wayfaring Temple and Voice of Resurgence

Why should I have taken a look at that again, Hemi-pwr?
