A first draft at a Grist, the Hunger Tide deck.

Ive been in the market for a golgari commander for a few years now and none interested me all that much until this guy came along. Grist combines the classic golgari undergrowth mechanic (see Izoni, Thousand-Eyed ) with the potential for an aristocrats sub-theme in case of a poorly timed graveyard exile effect. On top of all that, Grist allows for unique combos with cards like Forever Young , stacking the top of your library to then get a ton of insects and counters on grist all at once.

While insect tribal is certainly a theme, and I've tried to slot insects into the deck where I can, there aren't enough good insects to necessarily make this deck "tribal" in the traditional sense. For that reason I have effects like Conspiracy and Maskwood Nexus to grant more incidental chain mills with Grist.

To top it all off, the deck makes use of lots of recursion effects to get key creatures back from the graveyard. Grist's passive also means that we can make use of creature recursion to bring them back, meaning commander tax often wont be an issue.
