I like the idea of the deck. Do you have already considerated to play with Chandra, Pyromaster? It could be useful to give you card advantage and some extra damage each turn. Maybe Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker also could be very useful here because it's have a lower mana cost and allows you to attack with a 4/4 dragon each turn or maybe add 4 damage on target creature if you need. I Like Ugin, the Spirit Dragon on the list,

From when I tested it I could not seem to do much because of a lack of red mana.

I have considered Chandra. I think I've decided upon her being a 2x in the board for control matchups. I'd like to steer away from sarkhan, as he's not really in line with the scry setup/burn aspect of the deck, as compared to keranos. I agree he can attack for quite a bit, or burn out a creature, but he can be attacked and killed. I want them to have to spend cards to beat the things I play, which is how this deck basically wins (by pure card advantage). Thank you on the iron part, I put him in there since he's a nice 8 damage to the fact off of a riddle of lightning, and then can be a board wipe/extra burn if needed. Him and keranos together are up to 6 damage for no mana each turn. Few decks can handle that.

Hm. I didn't seem to have issues last night with it. I'll try to shift it around and see what I can get. I'm trying to balance overall color needs of the deck with also consistently being able to turn 1 a thoughtseize or despise. Thank you for the feedback!
January 15, 2015 1:29 p.m.
you really only need a total of 6-8 blue mana here. also you really don't need those lands that allow scry. I would focus on basic and fetch lands only for this get up.

@ theironnvrlies With that, do you think that dual color gain lands or some extra radiant fountain could be used in conjunction with cutting the temples? Using so many fetches and such scares me for my life total lol
January 15, 2015 2:30 p.m.
yea definitely. the dual lands the give you a life when they enter the field ike Bloodfell Caves, Dismal Backwater, and Swiftwater Cliffs would be good. you just have to play them early in the game.
January 15, 2015 3:57 p.m.
and Radiant Fountain would be good but it only gives you colorless mana.

I agree. Just more efficient on life gain. I'll have to look into this! Thanks for the suggestions!

I would say add Sigiled Starfish. It's hard for three-color decks to find the right cards at the right times. This provides regular scrying and can be a blocker in times of need. As of now, you don't have a single creature, which means that aggro and hexproof creatures (Reaper of the Wilds, for example) would kill this.
January 15, 2015 5:09 p.m.
maybe even atleast put some Hordeling Outburst, Bloodsoaked Champion, and/or Frenzied Goblin for some cheap blockers/attackers. A Goblin Rabblemaster might come in handy too!
January 15, 2015 5:17 p.m.
and for the burn spell aspect, the burns are very high cost. check out my deck here: Modern Burn Deck v2 for some ideas on cheap spells.

@ FAMOUSWATERMELON While I get what you're saying, there's really no "right card" in this deck, per se. It's just meant to burn people. Also, hexproof creatures and aggro can be dealt with, without using creatures. Arc Lightning is pretty good at picking apart aggro decks, and thoughtseize/despise are for getting rid of things that my burn/removal can't (the hexproof guys). Also, my sideboard, although not complete yet, will be to include cards such as Anger of the Gods, Crux of Fate, and counter magic. The only creature I may want to run, that your idea sparked in my head, is Satyr Firedancer. He seems good. Also, I'm running a bunch of draw and scry cards to ensure I get what I need for any given situation.
@ theironnvrlies I think the creatures you suggested are great, but they don't fit the idea of this deck. I'm not trying to force creatures through, just trying to burn them out and have answers for the things people play. I have debated either the new Lightning Shrieker or Stormbreath Dragon in the sideboard against decks such as abzan midrange for when they board out their removal after game 1. Any creature I play is required to have haste on it, as it needs to deal damage immediately, as a burn spell would. Other than that, I want to try it as just a burn/control deck first to see if it'll actually work.
@ both of you guys, I do appreciate your feedback, and if I sounded mean or sounded as if I was saying your ideas are bad, that's not how I meant it. I just don't feel that the suggestions provided are the answer, and they don't really fit the point of the deck. If playtesting dictates that they deserve slots, they will be given those slots. But, until then, I would like to try to synergize with the burn/control aspect first and foremost. Again, thank you for your comments, and I appreciate the time you guys have invested in checking out my list. As always, thank you, and happy brewing!

Also, the deck you posted for cheap burn spells is modern. I'm playing standard. Almost none of those cards are legal to use.

Even so, I would add at least 2 creatures. Satyr Firedancer would work fine.
January 15, 2015 7:10 p.m.
LOLCHICKEN92 just because its a burn deck doesnt mean not having creatures. what if your opponent has one or two drops, thats damage to you. you have to have some sort of cheap defense of your life points. just using control spells and burn spells wont do you any good.

I have to agree. Magic these days seems to be "how fast can you get a 20/20 on the battlefield". You need to be able to deal with that threat.

Anger of the Gods should at the very least be in your sideboard. I'd mainboard 2, personally. It will save your nuts against standard aggro. If you've got firedancers, I've found they combo spectacularly with Searing Blood.
Some counterspells could be useful, like some Disdainful Stroke or Dissolve for anything your other removal can't handle (planeswalkers, enchantments, etc.) Mindswipe is a fun option, but not as efficient as you'd probably like, and not very effective late-game, in my experience.
I like this deck, regardless. It looks like fun.

Yar. Proxied and played a bit last night. The mana base is just straight fucked right now. It was fun though. Riddle of lightning into temporal trespass is really fun lol. But, control is definitely gonna be the board options. Originally, I had 2 angers and 2 crux of fate in the main, but removed them to try to go heavier on the burn. Let's just suffice to say that the deck is gonna take on some changes.
January 16, 2015 4:03 p.m.
I don't understand Riddle of Lightning... I'd want at least 5 dmg for 5 mana, but there are only 11 cards 5+CMC to fuel it, I might use some tokenmakers instead... either Raise the Alarm or Hordeling Outburst, preferably alarm with this curve...
also some counterspells in side would be fine...
January 21, 2015 4:10 a.m.
LOLCHICKEN92 says... #25
Why tokenmakers? And riddle of lightning doesn't always hit 5+ cmc, but it has the possibility of setting up 20+ Dmg in one turn. riddle of lightning is just a big blowout a lot of the time. Sometimes less so, but the scry three is also nice. And soulfire grand master is already in the sideboard. Probably going to change it out for nyx fleece ram though. Nyx fleece ram is just better in most cases.
