Assuming money is no object:

Use Scars dual lands over M10 duals wherever possible. The fast early start is absolutely essential.

You absolutely do want Snapcaster MageMTG Card: Snapcaster Mage in the deck (this is more important than Scars duals if you can't afford both).

Life's FinaleMTG Card: Life's Finale is too expensive to be useful against aggro; it really only shines in the Wolf Run matchups and so belongs in the sideboard. Try cheaper sweepers maindecked.

Most three-colour decks are two colours splashing a third. In this case, U/B splashing R works best, so try to avoid double-red casting costs on your cheaper spells (SlagstormMTG Card: Slagstorm would be better replaced with a mix of WhipflareMTG Card: Whipflare and Black Sun's ZenithMTG Card: Black Sun's Zenith).

I've been experimenting with a Grixis list myself. My build performs very well against aggro and is built to slaughter Delver decks, but I do have a very bad matchup against control in game 1.

Maindecked, I've found that Ratchet BombMTG Card: Ratchet Bomb is the best answer to Liliana of the VeilMTG Card: Liliana of the Veil that we can ask for in these colours. Pristine TalismanMTG Card: Pristine Talisman is also useful because although the life gain is largely irrelevant, the acceleration is not.

Out of the sideboard, Praetor's GraspMTG Card: Praetor's Grasp is very useful, taking countermagic in the early game and threats in the late game. Blue Sun's ZenithMTG Card: Blue Sun's Zenith and Karn LiberatedMTG Card: Karn Liberated can also be also game-enders. There is also extra countermagic.

Since you're already splashing one PlainsMTG Card: Plains for Ray of RevelationMTG Card: Ray of Revelation, you may also consider boarding in 1-2 Unburial RitesMTG Card: Unburial Rites in the control matchup, since recursion is hard for them to deal with and the most commmon control deck is Nephalia DrownyardMTG Card: Nephalia Drownyard mill.

Thanks for the tips and comments!

I've actually found that Life's FinaleMTG Card: Life's Finale is awesome for me in my current meta, helps me kill off their unplayed creatures in their decks, i'm gonna try your suggestion and put 1 of the 2 in the sideboard possibly for the SlagstormMTG Card: Slagstorm. Black Sun's ZenithMTG Card: Black Sun's Zenith i have found to be super overrated for me. Everytime i've used it i've had to pay 6 in order to kill everything my opponents had coming at me, it also tends to not kill everything i need it to. SlagstormMTG Card: Slagstorm has performed much, much better for me, it also kills planeswalkers and can do damage to my opponent if i need it to.

With Evolving WildsMTG Card: Evolving Wilds having been released my lands come into play tapped a lot less often than they do with all scars duals. My mana base has been super consistent which i have been pleasantly surprised with. I really though only having Darkslick ShoresMTG Card: Darkslick Shores and then a singleton Blackcleave CliffsMTG Card: Blackcleave Cliffs would be bad but i actually rarely have my lands come in tapped.

I am also currently the only person at my FNM running Liliana of the VeilMTG Card: Liliana of the Veil so i don't have to deal with her very often. The single U/B player doesn't even run her.

I need to find my Unburial RitesMTG Card: Unburial Rites, i was gonna put it in the sideboard today but have no idea where it disappeared to.

Praetor's GraspMTG Card: Praetor's Grasp is an awesome idea, didn't think about that.

I was able to aquire a set of 2 Snapcaster MageMTG Card: Snapcaster Mage today, what would you suggest i remove for them? I'm currently having trouble deciding. And then what about removing the second Chandra, the FirebrandMTG Card: Chandra, the Firebrand in the SB for Karn LiberatedMTG Card: Karn Liberated

Any further help would be greatly appreciated

I can't really make good specific suggestions without knowing your metagame. What deck do you see most often? And the others that usually make an appearance?

it's actually a very healthy meta, we have a lot of aggro and few people play the same decks. U/B control, U/W control, tempered steel, random brews, b/w tokens, U/W humans. Those a pretty much the big players in my meta.

On friday GeistflameMTG Card: Geistflame was kinda underwhelming, but last weekend it was amazing. I'm thinking about dropping 1 for a Snapcaster MageMTG Card: Snapcaster Mage. the second thing i'll drop i really don't know.

Tragic SlipMTG Card: Tragic Slip is basically a strict upgrade on GeistflameMTG Card: Geistflame; the only functionality it loses is the ability to kill planeswalkers, and 1 damage is hardly ever enough to do that anyway. Plus Tragic SlipMTG Card: Tragic Slip has a nice little trick you can do with Snapcaster MageMTG Card: Snapcaster Mage: Play the mage, give TS flashback, chump-block somthing, then after combat you can use it to take down anything from a Grave TitanMTG Card: Grave Titan to a Blightsteel ColossusMTG Card: Blightsteel Colossus.

I was able to acquire a third snapcaster. I also got rid of the geistflames for 2 shock. Thinking I should drop the shocks for the third snapcaster and a second tragic sleep. Thoughts?

Tragic SlipMTG Card: Tragic Slip just didn't hit my fancy. Ended up dropping it for the 3rd Snapcaster MageMTG Card: Snapcaster Mage. Just ended up being that when i had the slip in hand i would've rather had an actual kill spell instead. Not a conditional one like the slip is.

I am thinking of a Grixis Control along the lines of:

Artifacts 1 BatterskullMTG Card: Batterskull2 Pristine TalismanMTG Card: Pristine Talisman

Creatures 1 Consecrated SphinxMTG Card: Consecrated Sphinx1 Inferno TitanMTG Card: Inferno Titan2 Phantasmal ImageMTG Card: Phantasmal Image1 Rune-Scarred DemonMTG Card: Rune-Scarred Demon3 Snapcaster MageMTG Card: Snapcaster Mage

Instants 1 Ancient GrudgeMTG Card: Ancient Grudge1 Blue Sun's ZenithMTG Card: Blue Sun's Zenith1 Desperate RavingsMTG Card: Desperate Ravings2 Doom BladeMTG Card: Doom Blade2 DissipateMTG Card: Dissipate2 Forbidden AlchemyMTG Card: Forbidden Alchemy1 Go for the ThroatMTG Card: Go for the Throat3 Mana LeakMTG Card: Mana Leak

Legendary Creatures 2 Olivia VoldarenMTG Card: Olivia Voldaren1 Sheoldred, Whispering OneMTG Card: Sheoldred, Whispering One

Planeswalkers 2 Liliana of the VeilMTG Card: Liliana of the Veil

Sorceries 1 Black Sun's Zenith]]1 SlagstormMTG Card: Slagstorm2 WhipflareMTG Card: Whipflare

Basic Lands 3 IslandMTG Card: Island3 MountainMTG Card: Mountain1 SwampMTG Card: Swamp

Lands 4 Blackcleave Cliff]]4 Darkslick Shore]]1 Dragonskull Summit]]1 Drowned Catacomb]]2 Evoling Wilds]]1 Rootbound Crag]]3 Shimmering Grotto]]4 Sulfur Falls]]

Sideboard- 1 Ancient GrudgeMTG Card: Ancient Grudge2 Curse of Death's HoldMTG Card: Curse of Death's Hold2 Geth's VerdictMTG Card: Geth's Verdict1 Life's FinaleMTG Card: Life's Finale1 Mana LeakMTG Card: Mana Leak2 Nihil SpellbombMTG Card: Nihil Spellbomb2 Ratchet BombMTG Card: Ratchet Bomb1 Ray of RevelationMTG Card: Ray of Revelation2 Surgical ExtractionMTG Card: Surgical Extraction1 Unburial RitesMTG Card: Unburial Rites

BatterskullMTG Card: Batterskullis such a good late game option because if the creature it is attached to dies you can send it back to your hand end of your opponent's turn to recast it on yours; also a good attacker that can defend as well with life gain that can be game changing.

Pristine TalismanMTG Card: Pristine Talisman is an artifact I have fallen in love through multiple plays with acceleration and life gain to combat aggro decks it is worthy for Grixis.

Consecrated SphinxMTG Card: Consecrated Sphinx is my anti control creature when it lands on the battlefield it can give card advantage to swing in your favor, can also chump block titans and has evasion.

Inferno TitanMTG Card: Inferno Titan one of your "bombs" he can rid you off pesky creature or pump him and swing hard. He is debateable with Grave Titan both being really good but I tend to always rely on the old man more.

Phantasmal ImageMTG Card: Phantasmal Image I love the stupidness you can do with this guy late game I slap down a Rune-Scarred Demon to copy him with an Image and then do it again or fetch something game changing to my hand. He also breaks those pesky Legendary creatures you can't seem to get rid of.

Rune-Scarred DemonMTG Card: Rune-Scarred Demon hmmm look for the most needed card at that point in the game and he is a 6/6 flyer? Need I say more?

Snapcaster MageMTG Card: Snapcaster Mage a staple if your playing Grixis Control. Block last second to kill a Geist of Saint TraftMTG Card: Geist of Saint Traft and kill his angel with a flashbacked kill spell or use the flashback effect to cast another instant to gain advantage.

Ancient GrudgeMTG Card: Ancient Grudge With Swords being a common thing in the current meta a removal for artifacts that can be flashback for one mana? Being a one of main board is a nice thing to have but if you need more snag 1 from the sideboard.

Looks like a solid build - maybe consider some hand destruction in the SB vs control?

One other question - why run desperate ravings over faithless looting?

April 19, 2012 11:51 p.m.

MacheteMable says... #12

Desperate RavingsMTG Card: Desperate Ravings is amazing during the entire game no matter how many cards are in your hand. If you have a hand of 0 then Faithless LootingMTG Card: Faithless Looting is a dead card (you have to discard 2). looting is only really good early game to ditch the cards you don't want or to ditch flashback spells. yes ravings is a random discard but you only lose 1 card compared to looting losing you 2 and if you have a super critical card in your hand then you should use neither!.

Hope that answers you question

and as always, if you like +1 please and if you think any changes should be made comment away. Anymore questions go ahead and ask.
