Thinking of adding Stormbreath Dragon as an additional finisher as his "each opponent" clause of monstrous is quite enticing. The only problem I have with him is that I have to deal with TWO opponents' removal before I get to use him...

my recommendation is to -1 duress, -2 skull rend, +3 anger of the gods. this will give you some more board control, which will be really useful

@GKirt:

Thanks for taking the time to comment!

We usually don't have to worry about "board state control" and board wipes which is why I'm running Grixis instead of Esper. There are A LOT of double control decks that run 2HG at my local game shop, and board wipes are dead cards vs them. Since there is no sideboarding, we need to keep the most versatile cards possible. things like Hero's Downfall work vs 'walkers OR creatures, etc. Anger of the Gods and Supreme Verdict work against decks that run a lot of creatures, however they are dead cards vs control decks. If I were to run something similar to this i think I would run Ratchet Bomb as these can still hit things like Detention Sphere or a planeswalker if need be.

The removal between the two decks paired with the superior creatures in the Orzhov deck usually are enough to keep the board state under control....not to mention the lifegain that the Orzhov deck has as well.

Skull Rend hits BOTH opponents (and has tested REALLY good vs double control matchups) at taking away their resources...the damage is just bonus). Duress allows me to "peak" at one of their hands (and then I write down the info so we know what they have) and then I can make them discard something that could give us a fit (counterspell, removal, planeswalker/artifact/enchantment,etc).

I understand. it just seems like you are pretty vulnerable to a set of agro decks. that being said, you should make room for 1 or 2 bombs

What would you suggest? My thought is the 2x Devour Flesh ...

Cool. Thanks!

The only drawback of this is IF I want to get rid of a Detention Sphere which would require me to have Ratchet Bomb = 3 counters. That could possibly kill off my partners' Underworld Connections or creatures (not to mention my Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver )

Thoughts?
