I like it, I've been looking to start playing a control deck lately just having issues deciding which. Any reason you're running Font of Fortunes over something like Divination or Opportunity ?

Yes, actually. Divination leaves you open on the third turn if you cast it then, because you have to play it sorcery speed. There's a lot of important spells coming down on the third turn, and you need countermagic to take it down. So, therefore, with Font of Fortunes coming down on turn 2, it frees the turn up.

Also, there is the thing that it is at instant speed... with this deck, you do a lot on their turn, so being able to keep mana open is amazing. Divination wastes an entire one of you turns.

Finally, Opportunity is just too cloggy... draw too many copies too early and you just lose because you're the one with dead cards instead of your opponent.

Oh. And there's the fact that if you have 3 of them and AEtherling , you can technically make Keranos, God of Storms a creature. Haha.

-1 Rakdos's Return -2 Slaughter Games (move to sideboard)+3 Thoughtseize

All of these cards are hand disruption but the first two mentioned are good against certain matchups while Thoughtseize is more universal.

I'll test it out. In theory it does seem better, haha.

Thanks for the input.

Phenax just for fun? Nothing like saying no to all their plays and then using their own win con against them am I right? Haha awesome deck!

I think you mean Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver ... Phenax just mills.

For Phenax, I have only one creature to tap that would mill them. And that creature is AEtherling , so it would just be faster to attack.

For Ashiok, that's going with a more of walker build I might experiment with if I had more walkers. However, this isn't Superfriends, so I'm unsure if Ashiok would fit, though it is a neat little card.

A deck that ran 4 Font of Fortunes and 2 Opportunity along with an awful mana curve did not come 1st at FNM.

Like the picture, would prefer constructive criticism. If you bothered to read the updates, you would find that the Opportunity s were a change made today.

DUde, cool deck, but way too many lands. 22 is the absolute max you need, but in this deck with all the card draw, i would go with 20-21 lands. Cool deck, very annoying to play against

The higher amount of lands ensures that I will be able to hit all my land drops until I can cast multiple spells per turn, allowing me to most effectively lock the board down. Decks with counterspells generally want a higher percentage of lands due to needing to play things and having counterspells to back them up.

Nah you definitely need the 25 lands here, although if I were you I'd switch that 1x Swamp out with 1x Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth and I'd really try and get at least 2X Mutavault as it could really help a control deck like this. I'd also rather see the Doom Blade in the sideboard and a full playset of Hero's Downfall in the main. Also, if the 2x Shock is in the sideboard for lowbie creatures, you might consider switching with Magma Spray

I will take the Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth suggestion. However, Vaults are close to rotating and out of my price range... otherwise they'd be in here for sure, as the mana is fantastic.

What would you suggest cutting from the side to make room?

Finally, the Shock s would be Magma Spray . However, the exile clause is irrelevant in most cases, besides Xathrid Necromancer and Voice of Resurgence ... in my meta they are not heavily played. However, there are lots of walkers, so Shock comes in handy more often than the exile clause of Magma Spray would.

Also, theoretically, you can use it to burn a player out if they by chance Slaughter Games or Stain the Mind your win cons out. Recycle them with Elixir of Immortality . Never had to do that, but it could happen, haha.

Edit: Magma Spray is also relevant against Chandra's Phoenix . However, through the light amounts of testing, Burn as a matchup is atrocious already, and making the matchup slightly better isn't what I want to be doing generally.

All valid points. From the side I'd cut the AEtherling and 1x Anger of the Gods , it's all pretty strong otherwise

maybe replace Opportunity with Jace's Ingenuity , the instant speed really helps

Opportunity is an instant. And the drawing an extra card is pretty important overall. The deck has no problem hitting 6 mana.m

im sorry i misread Opportunity maybe for post rotation?

August 24, 2014 11:15 a.m.

Definitely for post rotation, though I doubt this deck will be much good post rotation, as the format will be too fast overall. Control deck are starting to die down and midrange decks are starting to shine. So.
