Kefnet seems like a nombo with all the discard in the deck, do you think he is worth playing?

April 11, 2017 12:30 a.m.

Zaueski says... #2

Whether or not Kefnet makes the final cut is irrelevant, for me, I have to play and build as though he is present so I can keep my hand full... Otherwise it's super easy to overextend in this type of deck and run out of answers. Kefnet supplies repeatable draw and an impressive body. I think he's worth running atm, depending on the Black god and the rest of the spoilers that may change.

how bout the new Shadow of the Grave?

April 13, 2017 9:06 a.m.

Sackout says... #4

also the 3B draw 2 with cycle?

Zaueski says... #5

You mean Hieroglyphic Illustration? or is there really a black card that I missed?

April 13, 2017 12:03 p.m.

Sackout says... #6

Yea that one. I think it would be better than Shadow for just flat out card advantage. However, if you usually have a lot of mana and cards in hand late game, you can do some stupid stuff with like 2-3 cycle cards and shadow.

I like Hieroglyphic Illumination and Pull from Tomorrow more than Shadow and Tormenting Voice but I can't decide between the flexibility of Hieroglyphic Illustration and the raw power of a late game Pull from Tomorrow

Sackout says... #8

I'd say like 3 illumination and 2 pulls?

April 13, 2017 12:28 p.m.

Zaueski says... #9

That involves cutting 3 cards. Currently I have 2 slots budgeted for this choice. SO what would you cut aside from Tormenting Voice?

April 13, 2017 12:30 p.m.

Sackout says... #10

1 censor, 1 defiance, but I don't know about the 3rd slot. I would say maybe 1 of the Lili's, but Death's majesty works well with the creatures since they cycle, and haveing only 1 of each Lili doesn't seem worth it. I would probably make it 2 of the new ;Lili's and cut the Innistrad one, but I don't know if you really rely on the old one for more control or not.

April 13, 2017 12:35 p.m.

Sackout says... #11

Or you could just play 2 of each and leave all 3 Lilianas

Nice deck, +1 from me. Maybe add Olivia, Mobilized for War for the combo with Drake haven. I went for the combo approach with my cycling deck. Any suggestions for my build?(Olivia, Mobilized for War)

April 16, 2017 11:46 a.m.

To clarify: I didn't go for the Olivia combo approach, I went for the draw-through-your-deck-and-win-with-an-army-of-drakes approach using new perspectives

Nice deck, the only suggestion I have is maybe trying Kefnet the Mindful perhaps. I know it was suggested already but I just thought I would bring it to your attention again.

Really wish standard would get something already for infinite hand size though, I think that would be pretty decent for Kefnet the Mindful.

April 17, 2017 9:37 p.m.

Zaueski says... #15

The reason I chose not to run Kefnet the Mindful is he feels too much like a winmore card in testing. He can't block when I'm behind and if I've got seven cards in hand then I'm still free to counter, kill, and interact with the opponent. So I cut him in favor of more control power and more synergy. A full hand means I don't need the beater/blocker and he's not good without a full hand.

Well, I tried it and it worked, beating a Second Sun control deck, but it really needs better sideboard for that. As in a bunch more counterspells. But boy was it tedious. Cycle, draw a card, make a drake, the drake gets killed, the enchantment is removed, lets see if we can find another way to do some damage. Got down to 10 cards in deck before the game ended.

I think this deck needs a more reliable way of drawing cards in the mid game.

I played it against Amonkhet Minotaurs.

It board wiped the Opponent Creatures in the mid game, and got Archfiend of Ifnir on the field, but my Opponent was able to dispatch the Fiend with Cut / Ribbons, and there was nothing left to deal with the final Minotaur.

I'll have a go at playing Post-Sideboard.

Another test Post-Sideboard.

I got more draw in hand, but still ran out of cards by Turn 13.

There needs to be some sort of draw engine.

Maybe you can let me know how you'd Sideboard?

Cut / Ribbons is really problematic if the game runs long.

A couple of extra Negates wouldn't go astray against it.

Argy says... #19

Would you have a problem with me linking to your deck in my Sideboard notes?

It might end up driving some extra traffic your way, but will also tell people how to Board against you.

April 18, 2017 5:04 a.m.

Zaueski says... #20

Yeah, sure go ahead and link it. I can't test as much as I want to atm because it's almost finals week at college.

The sideboard is what I think the meta will be but I'll absolutely add more Negates if it turns out to still be needed. I'll look into more draw engines/kill spells here soon.

I'll be taking a look at this and doing some playtesting against existing match ups and such later today.

Nice deck! You already commented on my Drake Haven deck. I still haven't made the jump from Izzet to Grixis, mostly due to the mana. How is the mana for you? It seems a little sketchy with all the double colors. How often are you ok with tapping out for New Perspectives? Is the effect good enough in your playtesting to warrant the mana cost?

April 18, 2017 4:02 p.m.

Zaueski says... #23

Mana has been great, I just started playtesting so I've only got about 10 games or so but I have yet to get color screwed Cragon18. As for New Perspectives... I'm still iffy on it. It's really good when I can play it safely but I rarely find myself needing it or wishing I had it. The deck functions really well without it so currently it feels like a strictly worse Opportunity... I think I'm going to cut it for another couple counterspells honestly but I'm still seeing if its worth it. I definitely think it fits way better in a deck like Shadow Perspective Combo (Competitive) than in mine.

The deck has been super fun and it does fairly well against aggro decks so far.

What about the two mana one 3 flyer that gets +1/+1 whenever you cycle a card that would be a good win-con
