Is this a primer?

Nah, not at all, really. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad you dropped by, thanks for checking the list out! But if you came down here looking for my "Art of War"-esque tips on how to pilot this deck, then I'm sorry to disappoint you. I kinda just... talk. If that interests you, great! By all means, read on. If it doesn't, well, you've been informed. Still though, thanks for swinging by.

Let's talk about The Locust God...

Too many times have I sat down at a table against or as the Locust God player and been a part of or met with an audible groan from the other players. They swallow their complaints because they're here to play Magic, and by Bolas are we gonna play. But the game is rarely fun, because at the end of the day (in my experience) The Locust God isn't a fun commander to play against. And y'know what? I get it. It's often built competitively, and more often still is built to wheel the game into oblivion. My Locust God deck was built much the same way in its first iteration, and its second iteration, and its... okay, you get the point.

THIS IS NOT A WHEEL DECK! It isn't even a competitive one...

I hate wheeling in commander. It isn't fun. I feel like all you're doing is hassling the gas in your opponents hands so that they can't play the game they came to play, OR you give them the gas they need so that you can't play the game you came to play. I want everyone's deck to perform because I want everyone to have fun, because at the end of the day we're all sitting there to play a game and enjoy our time playing it. The most memorable games, I find, are the ones that could've gone either way. I'm sitting at that table for clutch turns, tug-of-wars, and balls-to-the-wall ridiculous plays.

My Meta

Our playgroup has a fairly casual meta. We can't afford to splurge on the best cards and our power level isn't super high, but we definitely go into our games looking like we're coming for the throne. We're fighting for honour! The losers get shame and the winner gets bragging rights (until the next game at least). The main contenders are a Mardu human tribal deck and an Esper blink deck, so not what I'd call competitive staples.

You might like this deck...

If you want a Locust God deck to absolutely dominate at your LGS, there are an abundance of lists around that can provide for that. If you want to wheel your table, assemble the tightest combos, and laugh with satisfaction as your opponents hide their fatigue behind their hands then one: power to you, and two: there are an abundance of lists around that can provide for that. This isn't one of them. This deck is just a bit of fun. We're gonna cast a lot of spells, draw a lot of cards, make a lot of dudes, and smash a lot of face.

Dude, budget??

Hahahaha look, we all know commander decks can be on the expensive side and this one is no exception. I didn't actually buy any singles for this iteration of the list, it's built entirely from cards I already owned. Buuut that's what you get for spending some years and some thousands on this hobby, isn't it? I know you know what I'm talking about, you cheeky devil.
