It was a casual tournament with many types of decks being played and due to circumstances I ended up playing against three different people.
First time I had a chance to play my opponent dropped but they forgot to drop him from the list so his son subbed in with his deck. Only problem was he didn't know what the deck was (turned out to be an infinite mana combo pauper deck) so I feel like I won 2-0 against that one since he didn't know what it did until pretty far into game one and in game two he didn't have the mana he needed but didn't even know how much was in his deck or else he'd have maybe mulliganed. However, despite these limitations, the first game I won when he managed to do the infinite combo but I was gaining 2 life for every 1 damage he did due to Authority of the Consuls and his combo requiring two creatures entering the battlefield. He'd do 1000 damage, I'd gain 2000 life, so he resigned that game. So that was interesting and the first time I've seen an infinite combo.
Next round I went up against a black/blue standard deck that was really similar to what my fiancee plays. It was just too slow getting started and my deck did great against it, especially with Authority of the Consuls on the table and my many flyers. I won 2-0.
Last round my opponent dropped but they forgot to take the person off the list, but luckily someone just came in to play and played against me during that time. They had a four-color standard deck that they described as a competitive ramp deck, but my deck got everything out quite fast (even with one game where I only had one island and one plains out for maybe four or five turns) and with my Westvale Cult Leader
Flip out it was hard for my opponent to attack even with their strong 6/6 tokens coming out on the table, especially when slowed down by Authority of the Consuls. They said that if they has used their sideboard (they agreed to not use it since I didn't even have one) they would have put in cards that wiped the table.
This was my first time using Port Town because I bought all three that they had before I got started and replaced some of my basic lands with them. They worked really well and I think they made it so I got the mana I needed more consistently. When I find one I'll buy another Port Town.
My last opponent recommended I use Decoction Module instead of Consulate Turret because I could return my energy producing cards like Aether Swooper and Thriving Turtle to my hand and replay them, getting the energy again. They also recommended more lands and that I could probably run x2 or x3 of Aerial Responder and Propeller Pioneer to make room for more lands. I'm not sure what I'll do yet, but I had not considered returning cards to my hand to get energy from them again, so if not for this deck maybe I'll use that strategy for a different deck.
I technically came in 2nd out of the people still there at the end (many left early), but with missing the first round, one bye, one subbed match, and one default win, I didn't feel anything about it and they didn't award based on place since it was a casual tournament. However, they did have many raffle prizes and between my ticket and my fiancee's ticket we came home with a really cool playmat.
