Hello,

I have created a total remake for my Gruul Bloodrush deck found here Gruul Bloodrush Modern (Win Turn 3). I've been crafting this home-brew deck for a while now and I think I am finally happy with where it is at. Since I have taken out most of the bloodrush cards for better instance and sorcery cards, I am renaming it Gruul Aggro and making a new page for the deck!

The game plan is this:

Turn 1: Land, Birds of Paradise or Utopia Sprawl if you play a forest.

Turn 2: Land, then play Prophetic Flamespeaker or Fanatic of Xenagos (don't forget the tribute ability!) These are your win con creatures.

Turn 3: Attack with a ton of buffs. It's very easy to hit for over 20 damage on turn three considering all of the 1 CMC buff spells. Fanatic of Xenagos will most likely need Assualt Strobe to get there on T3.

Other options:

1.I found that if the T3 win doesn't occur Wild Defiance is a solid T4 or T5 win option. If you are a couple of buffs short of 20 damage, T1 Birds of Paradise or Utopia Sprawl, T2 cast a win con creature, T3 Attack with creature if safe then play Wild Defiance , then T4 attack casting buff spells stacking with Wild Defiance and you should not have a problem. (side note: The bloodrush ability does not work will Wild Defiance you will not get an additional +3/+3)

2.I have also found that many times I can win with Birds of Paradise because it has flying. You can fly him over blockers for those last couple lifepoints with a buff or even Assault Strobe with buffs for a full 20 damage, trust me this is quite hilarious at your local FNM. Assault Strobe and Might of Old Krosa on Birds of Paradise attack, add Groundswell and Mutagenic Growth to the lot and things get real. Also, Birds of Paradise gets around Ensnaring Bridge if it is buffed after being declared an attacker

Tips:

  1. If are lacking win-con creatures hard cast bloodrush creatures.

  2. Prophetic Flamespeaker allows you to cast cards from the top of your deck if you get player damage. This hits twice because of double strike so you exile two cards and are able to cast them. There are two different stages of damage; first strike damage stage, and the normal damage stage. If you hit twice, exile the first card. If it is a buff instant cast it on Prophetic Flamespeaker and you can get the buff for the normal damage stage still. You will not be able to add extra buffs after then normal damage stage as the damage is already done. Also, you can use this to play a land for turn to avoid drawing into lands, or if you have the mana play another creature.

  3. If you know your opponent is playing control sideboard in Vines of Vastwood and wait till you drawn into it or Blossoming Defense so if they attempt to Path to Exile you can in response give your creature hexproof. Only use the hexproof cards in response to spells. Casting the hexproof too soon will allow them to respond with a exile/destroy spell.
