GRUUL BIG. GRUUL STRONG. GRUUL SMASH PUNY NON-GRUUL DECKS!
If Mr. Torgue from BL2 played MTG (Or was real), this is what he would probably play.
Yeah. ummm. This is my gruul midrange deck. Heavily borrows off the standard version of this deck. Though I feel the temple of abandon in place of Stomping grounds hurts the mana curve. This is where i'm a bit conflicted. Having a dead turn 1 or two could be a make or break for this deck to get out the 4-drops ASAP. Granted the scry is very helpful for a guild not known for manipulation.
Tech: Fairly straightforward. Ramp into large creatures and cave your opponents face in. GRUUL STRONK!
Polukranos, World Eater Short of anything with the word "baloth" in it. This is about as good as it gets for a great 4-drop beater. The monstrosity is a gravy train to get rid of pesk chump blockers. 2 devotion to G
Ghor-Clan Rampager
Another great 4-drop with the added bonus of being a trump card in the hand. Polukranos' size and monstrosity is the main reason Ghor gets 2 and Polu get 3.
Xenagos, the Reveler
Great card all around. Gives ramp, produces his own blocker that helps with his +1 as well. His ult is definitely one of the more broken ones among the PW. Activate it and your opponent will probably fold (given you don't get all lands :P )
Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker
Mr. popular himself. This dude is a truckload of win-con by himself. Cast him and you get a 4/4 indestructible haste flying dragon every turn if you choose. his -3 is a bit pricey, especially since this deck runs
Stoke the Flames
His ultimate may seem balanced, but trust me, it's not. By the time you can get sarkhan to at least 6 loyalty, you will probably be close to top-decking. With Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx
+
Xenagos, the Reveler
out, you won't have any trouble playing the additional 2 cards every turn; at end of turn, you won't have a hand to discard anyway.
Chandra, Pyromaster
Nissa, Worldwaker
Nylea, God of the Hunt These fine ladies are a triumvirate of goodness. Chandra takes care of 1 blocker per turn, her 0 is undoubtedly useful if you are running low on cards in hand, which is likely because GRUUL NO NEED SILLY HAND. Ultimate for 3 copies of
Stoke the Flames
for 12 damage? Yes, please
Nissa provides flat, green ramp for us and utilizes any idle lands we have on our turn to great effect. She works great with
Xenagos, the Reveler
, allowing us to thin the deck of lands before genesis-ing with Xen.
Nylea is pretty straightforward, give everybody trample. a pricey buff is more or less an added bonus. Even so, having the mana to use it - maybe even twice - usually isn't an issue. Being able to turn into a 6/6 face-smasher is a definite plus as well.
Stormbreath Dragon is another great beater for this deck. I think the real killer is it's protection from white (in modern, at least). With almost every deck with white running Path to Exile (myself included), having a bigass flyer that's safe from exile cards and Angels is a win in my book. "But it dies to Insert black spot removal here!" Yeah, so do 90% of creatures in MTG. Even without the Dragon, we still have Sarkhan going full Dovahkiin every turn and probably a beefy army already in play.
Yes, yes "Why is this deck modern when it could be Standard by swapping out 8 cards?" I redirect you to Skullcracks flavor text.
Feedback, suggestions, critiques, and advice welcome (surprising, I know!)
Remember kids, GRUUL SMASH!
