Balaroth,
Yeah, I've grown to hate that card too! :-)
Thanks much; I'll add it to the deck description!

I like the deck +1 from me, however I feel the Guardians of Meletis 3 drop could be used more efficiently. I would say -3 guardians, +1 Sylvan Advocate +2 Explosive Vegetation, which will help jadi offshoot finding more lands and help you get to your bigger threats quicker, this will also help the Sylvan Advocate become unlanguish-able quicker too.

See, I do not think that is different enough from a GR ramp deck, expect that it has some worse cards in it, like goldnight castigator and assault formation. You either go for big but aggro or you go for a ramp strategy, the two do not mix well.
May 25, 2016 4:44 a.m.
Ah trying to beat the languishes too! lets work together. team haste go
I like the "big Butts" approach but i am very confused why Ruins of Oran-Rief are in here and the number of colourless creatures you have..Just smasher and guardians? I dont know if it's good enough, but hey i havent tested nor played the deck. Sea Gate Wreckage for card draw?
I feel like Chandra, Flamecaller would be amazing in this deck. Its a great boardwiper , refiller and burner all in one.

PeeBee,
Thanks much! And yeah, I'm not a huge fan of the Guardians of Meletis either. It's awesome with Assault Formation, but just too slow otherwise. I like your idea of the additional ramp, and will test it for sure. Vile Aggregate was my other thought for the 3-drop slot, or maybe Pulse of Murasa, Uncaged Fury, or Weirding Wood. Do you happen to have an opinion on any of those? Thanks much!
Boza,
Yeah, I was trying to find a nice Midrange balance on the deck ... you're right though that I may have it a little too high. That kind of goes along with PeeBee's comments about Guardians of Meletis too. Thanks much!
Kizmetto,
I'd actually flagged team haste go to look at, based on your post over at All Things Wolven ... sorry it's taken so long for me to get to it!
Ruins of Oran-Rief is frankly left over from early in the build, when I was looking at more Eldrazi options, and also considering some Thopters. I like the card so went ahead and left it in as a placeholder for now, until I lock in the rest of the deck. Sea Gate Wreckage is definitely a good replacement option; thanks!
Chandra, Flamecaller would be amazing for sure. I don't have any though, and I'm hesitant to drop that kind of money for a janky deck like this. Definitely one for the maybeboard though; thanks again!
snarlmkiv,
Thanks much, but anything good here is frankly due to michael921 and folks from across T/O.
The bad stuff? That's all me! :-D
Thanks again to all!

I'm loving the fact that this is going to be a very powerful modern deck post rotation.
May 25, 2016 10:45 a.m.
PeeBee,
Crater Elemental was another I was thinking about for the 3-drop ...
snarlmkiv,
Really?!? I don't know the first thing about Modern ... figure I'd have to figure it out for when all the Werewolves rotate out though! :-)
May 25, 2016 11:01 a.m.
Same here. I just got back into the game. I lent my werewolf deck to my brother and I'm running my Mono-reds for FNMs.

Crater Elemental is definitely a better option to the Guardians of Meletis as you wont need to pay for the green from Assault Formation to make it attack everytime either, and the abilities actually have good a use in your deck. I still stick by the +1 Sylvan Advocate and +2 Explosive Vegetation though. or +1 Sylvan Advocate +1 Explosive Vegetation and +1 Jaddi Offshoot.
The reason I like explosive vegetation is: it will make jaddi's useful/make sylvan advocates butt get bigger quicker/make dragonlord artarka faster to cast/thin the deck of lands (helping you find assault formation quicker/help you find 2 mountains for goldknight for turn 4 and even help with nissa ultimate, which is a lot of good uses in the deck. And the jaddi should keep you alive in the early game from aggro.
Pulse of Murasa is ok, but i feel it may be a dead card in your hand in some situations.Vile Aggregate is a good 3 slot but i feel synchronise more in a devoid deck, crater would be better.Uncaged Fury is an overkill card, when it works it will definitely make you win, but for full advantage you may need the assault formation, i wouldn't choose this card.
If you decide not to go with the extra explosive veg, I would -1 dragonlord and put +1 slyvan/jaddi/crater in instead to keep the mana curve a bit lower.

PeeBee,
Thanks so much for all the thoughts! Makes great sense, and I really appreciate your investment of time!
May 25, 2016 12:10 p.m.
No problem, I'm a big fan of assault formation decks and will be happy to answer any other question you may have on the deck, as I have fun in modern with Defend The Base! which is a big butt modern version, with additional wincons.

MetaMaster22 says... #14
You are right it survives languish, and none of the other removal that is prevalent in the meta.
May 25, 2016 1:02 p.m.
MetaMaster22,
Well sure, I mean it's a Gruul deck ... the fact it can survive any of the removal in the meta is pretty good! :-D

Obligatory Duskwatch Recruiter Flip as a valid option, and I'm voting again for the Crater Elemental as it has additional utility in case you don't have the Assault Formation. I would recommend NOT using the Chandra, as her + ability is completely useless to this deck. With the assault formation, the tokens are 1/1s, which is not relevant.
May 25, 2016 6:48 p.m.
wait you know whats an AWESOME finisher? Gaea's Revenge = i mean no good with Assault Formation as it'll make it hit for 5 rather than 8, but it cant be killed by any played card (fringe play being the dogpile Moonlight Hunt ) but makes good sideboard tech. I swear by this card haha its so good.
good point about Chandra, i forgot about Assault Formation in the previous post, but not here? haha. refilling your hand is great and the boardwipe (because you WILL survive it)
I'd love it if you took a look at team haste go when you're free!

I will come back and give more detailed analysis of this deck but I can see a few things that could be addressed.
You will probably get colour screwed in the early game if you run six sources of colourless mana.
I would limit these to a total of three:
4x Rogue's Passage
2x Sea Gate Wreckage
My feeling is that three Rogue's Passage would be the way to go.
I'm not sure what result you want the 3x Exquisite Firecraft to have.
If it's to get rid of Creatures mid to late game then Burn from Within has more versatility. If it's to act as a finisher, Burn from Within is stronger.
May 26, 2016 12:13 p.m.
Argeaux,
Great call on Burn from Within vs. Exquisite Firecraft; thanks much. And yeah, I've got a lot more testing to do before I settle on the manabase ... I was aiming high to help make sure I had a colorless for a Turn 5 Reality Smasher, but 6x may prove to be too high ...
As always, thanks tons!
May 26, 2016 1:35 p.m.
I've seen decks that say "based on" and then links to the deck is based on. I want to make a deck based on this, but I don't see anything in the interface that allows for a reference. Mind helping me? :P
May 26, 2016 3:45 p.m.
Rasanck,
I'm not sure, but I think T/O does that automatically if you use the white Copy button (in the stack with Playtest and Edit and what-not).
And thanks tons ... I'm (1) very flattered and (2) super-interested in seeing what you brew up!
May 26, 2016 3:53 p.m.
OK, let me take another swing at this.
In regard to casting Reality Smasher I would consider Crumbling Vestige. Perhaps to replace Sea Gate Wreckage.
I know that card has little value in the late game, but it helps immeasurably to stop colour screw in the early game, while still giving you access to colourless mana.
May 26, 2016 6:54 p.m.
Argeaux,
Oh, Crumbling Vestige would be great; thanks much!

I've playtested this a few times now against Cast a Shadow, which I am guessing is its major competition.
It wins if Shadow has a bad draw.
Unfortunately, it often runs out of Creatures otherwise.
To this end it might help to add Foundry of the Consuls, because there are no Lands that turn into Creatures in your colours.
Thopters also can't be hit by Ultimate Price.
I'm not 100% on that. It would need to be tested.
I think you would do well to add a fog effect to your Sideboard. Subbing Revealing Wind for Kozilek's Return might help. It can be amazing to stop your Opponent's last "killing blow", leaving them with no blockers as you hit for game.
It will very much depend on whether or not you have a lot of */2 Tokens floating around in your meta.
