Maybe put Sarkhan Unbroken in your deck

There aren't any cheap dragons that could replace Heir of the Wilds, but Sarkhan Unbroken might be worth an include in your list in the 5-drop slot for Surrak. His + replaces, his - protects, and his ult overwhelms. Plus the dragon token interacts with Thunderbreak Regent. Another sweet dragon-interaction is Savage Ventmaw + Crater's Claws, but some of the "fun" is lost without Dragon Tempest in the mix. Stormbreath Dragon is amazing, still, as his price tag indicates.

Stormbreath Dragon certainty is amazing, but my problem is his price tag. Same goes for Sarkhan Unbroken. I might include Savage Ventmaw but for right now the 6 mana cost is just a bit high... Dragons of Tarkir isn't even half spoiled yet, I'm hoping there will be a few more awesome dragons.

Sarkhan Unbroken will most likely go down after some time after the release because he is only in temur

Ehud says... #5

@Echo_Force I want that to happen so much. Sarkhan Unbroken has already become one of my favorite cards. If he actually drops below $10 I will definitely get a couple.

Why no Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx on the mainboard?

March 15, 2015 1:35 a.m.

Ehud says... #7

@JPQ_777 I would like to, but I'm on a pretty tight budget. I already owned the Polukranos, World Eater and pulled a Rugged Highlands at a pre-release. Nothing else is particularly expensive. If I get a good pull from a pre-release or something I will definitely try to get a Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx.

Nice, you should consider a couple of Genesis Hydra also.

What you could do is add hero's blade, turn 2 play it, turn 3 play surrak, blade auto equips and he triggers his formidable, gives himself haste and swings for 8 damage turn 3.

March 16, 2015 1:51 p.m.

Ehud says... #10

@Stormchaser9 While I like that idea, I'd much rather play another mana dork on turn 2. The blade doesn't help my Doom Engine or Thunderbreak Regent. I am open to replacing my 2 Savage Punch with another 2 of, but I don't think Hero's Blade is it.

@Ehud, used to play green devotion, heroes blade isn't probbably going to be a good idea for your deck, It's just fun to mess around with of you want to mess with your opponents.

I love this, +1 from me!

Have you thought about Frontier Siege? It can give you a total of 4 free mana every turn, great for ramp. Could be worth trying out.

Either way, nice deck!

March 17, 2015 4:26 p.m.

Ehud says... #13

@Hydrax Thanks! While I like Frontier Siege, I feel I have enough ramp. I also prefer the 1-2 drop mana dorks because my goal is to get my bombs out on turns 3-4. They also double as a really nice way to trigger tons of draw with Shamanic Revelation

Quick question, can you actually have both Atarakas on the field at the same time? I thought that was the case because they had different names, but my friend who knows rules better than me told me that since they both have Ataraka in their name, you have to sac one. If you wouldn't mind enlightening me that would be cool

March 18, 2015 1:15 p.m.

Boza says... #15

Yes, you can. The only thing that matters for legendary purposes is the full name for cards and the type for planeswalkers. You cannot have both Sarkhan Unbroken and Sarkhan the Mad at the same time, but you can have both Atarkas out. This may be where the confusion stems from.

I think we should share ideas: Ferocious Aggro :)

Ehud says... #17

@nmannign21 good question, this is a common misconception. The legend rule only applies to creatures with the exact same name. I think people get the legend rule confused with the rules for planeswalkers.

704.5k If a player controls two or more legendary permanents with the same name, that player chooses one of them, and the rest are put into their owners' graveyards. This is called the "legend rule".

I've asked multiple people at my local card shop who agree that both versions can be on the field at the same time. Also, I distinctly remember reading on a Magic.Wizards.Com article that old and new dragons can share the field. I think it was one of the earliest articles in the Dragons of Tarkir spoiler season, but I can't find it now.

Noooooooooooooo you're wrong. It says the same name, not the exact same name

March 19, 2015 12:07 p.m.

MattTheNinja says... #20

They're both a legendary creature named Atarka and could not both be out on the field, under your control, at the same time

March 19, 2015 12:08 p.m.

Boza says... #21

For the last time, it is exact name:

  1. Name

201.1. The name of a card is printed on its upper left corner.201.2. Two objects have the same name if the English versions of their names are identical.

Dragonlord is different from World Rendered, mkay?

March 19, 2015 12:22 p.m.

Hydrax says... #22

Examples of what is ok to have on the field:

Dragonlord Atarka and Atarka, World Render = Perfectly Fine

Niv-Mizzet, Dracogenius and Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind = Perfectly Fine

Examples of what is NOT ok:

Dragonlord Atarka and Dragonlord Atarka = Sacrifice one of them

(The above applies to pretty much every single other Legendary Creature)

March 19, 2015 2:40 p.m.

Ehud says... #23

I think that this confusion stems from the fact that planeswalkers do not allow different versions of the same walker to be on the field at the same time. Planeswalkers and creatures follow completely different sets of rules, and this is one of them.

DaftVader says... #24

Savage Ventmaw would be nice in this deck, lots of mana for bombs, is a dragon and just overall funny with Crater's Claws.

March 20, 2015 1:27 p.m.

Ehud says... #25

@DaftVader I am so torn on Savage Ventmaw! Part of me loves the idea, especially with his interaction with Crater's Claws... but another part of me just can't imagine a 4/4 flying for 6 mana being efficent enough for the kind of speed I'm aiming for in this deck. And while the ramp is amazing, by the time I can get him out I'm able to play whatever I want anyway. Every once in a while he might let me get a creature or two out a turn earlier than I would be able to otherwise, but my hand will soon be empty and I don't have a bunch of card draw. I'd just rather summon a bomb.
