Can anyone please explain to me why people use flesh/blood, which are sorceries, in a red and green deck that has no option to play the flesh side when fall of the hammer only needs 1R and is at instant speed? I have never understood it. It's like everyone is amazed because it's a fuse card, even when it has no use. I mean... I guess you could play flesh side with your sylvan caryatid... but the card is still sorcery speed. Idk. maybe i'm just confused.

People put Blood in their decks because you combo it with blood rush to get a big swing at your opponents face. Get a 10/10 Polukranos, blood rush to 14/14 trample, deal maybe 8 damage to your opponent after crush a blocker, then cast blood for another 14. People use it because it ends games. Ive gotten a 14/14 polis crusher with Xenagod plus blood for 28 damage not counting blood rush which in this combo is another 8 damage in itself for 2 mana. Speed doesnt matter as you would be casting in second main phase of your turn. Honestly I have never used the flesh side.
If you want to build a budget deck, Forgestoker Dragons can be used in place of stormbreath. Polis crusher in place of polukranos. Drop mutavault for basic land. That should drop the cost of the deck considerably. Focus on mana ramp (4 mana creatures is safe) and big 4 drops. 5 drops tend to slow the game down and not get as much done in time.

Not here to burst your bubble, but Flesh / Blood is a sorcery, so you can't play it while Xenagos, God of Revels 's effect is active.

Xenagos says until end of turn, so on second main phase you COULD blood.
May 26, 2014 12:24 a.m.
Second main phase is when you use Flesh / Blood after your creature is buffed from blood rush or xenagos.

It's just so much easier and utility to use Fall of the Hammer ... Flesh//Blood is used by so many people. And I never see em using Flesh! pointless!

I almost never use Flesh//Blood on a creature, in the course of 3 months, average 14 games a week, I may have used it on a creature 4 or 5 times. Its almost always used to get that extra damage on a player or to get a killing blow.

lol whoops i linked the wrong deck haha, yours is similar to mine actually, but Im really stuck between decks right now, i love the removal in jund monsters but i love how heavy hitting this deck can be with the Flesh//Blood and xenagos and polukranos

Flesh//Blood is necessary in this deck. Without black, there is not much better removal in gruul. Mizzium Mortars doesn't get over 4 damage unless you double up. Check out my deck Thats The Deck!. +1ed.

Very similar to my Gruul deck. Important distinction- the use of Nykthos and Burning Tree Emissary facilitates a Hydra Broodmaster by turn 4, and Monstrous with 6 6/6 Hydras by turn 5 through clever use of Xenagos Planeswalker, mana dorks, and Nykthos. Here it is-

Very nice however I feel your creature draw is less consistent. Ive down a few playtests and iv'e noticed that im often one or two mana shot or i have the wrong creatures in had like Eidolon of the Great Revel with several copies of Flesh / Blood . Not bad cards to have on the draw but they are not an amazing combo. I feel that there is an excess of small creatures (under 3 power) which isn't ideal for a monster deck. Your deck isnt bad by any means but I think it might be slower and less consistent. Also without Courser of Kruphix you lose the land filtering that makes midrange consistent.
I do really like the idea of Hydra Broodmaster with decks that have crazy ramp. I played my wife last night vs her hex proof life gain and a bunch of 12/12s would have really made a difference. Polukranos, World Eater can be slow vs hex proof or just fall short.

Please add [M14] to your Elvish Mystic [M14] so that it will render , makes it so much easier to playtest
July 22, 2014 7:22 p.m.
CaptainCaveman thats the why the mystic has been since i made the deck. hasn't rendered since m15 came out.
DatMidrangePlayer 1. life gain 2. Builds devotion for bigger mana ramp 3. Prepping for rotation.

have you considered adding Back to Nature to the sideboard? Enchantments are going to continue to be a big part of standard and its a fantastic sweeper that would be almost entirely one sided in this deck (it only kills your Courser of Kruphix and Boon Satyr post board)

This seems like a fun deck!
I would swap Boon Satyr with Nylea's Disciple in the main. Disciple is great incidental life gain, but it's lower impact in a lot of matchups. If you play against a lot of burn or aggro then by all means, keep it in the main. Otherwise, the flash threat of Boon Satyr is fantastic, especially as a bestow creature (same devotion, too).
