Dude, you got choose. Go aggro or end game. You can't really run Atarka's Command and a six drop. I'd cut the six drop for more early aggressive creatures. Maybe Zurgo, abbot. Things like that. Also Command doesn't target which is kinda of meh in your deck so keep that in mind. Also 24 lands may be too much. I'd try 22 or 23. Also main deck removal is always good. Go with fiery impulse because it can target your creatures too getting yourself another wolf!

MTGNuclear,
Those are some really good points, and thinking about them, I'm frankly not sure if I want to lean the deck full-aggro or more midrange. It's going to be super-interesting seeing how this works out! Thanks much!

Zeke_0, Katzen_Rache, rrplague, Ohthenoises, Wabbbit, and Emrakool,

Thanks tons for stopping by! I tagged you due to your impressive Legacy/Modern/previous-Standard Wolf decks ... I appreciate any thoughts you may have on my brew-in-progress!

Plus Argeaux, just on general principles :-)

CheeseBro,
I like having a powerful card to quickly turn the tables late-game if I'm behind. Reality Smasher has done a great job in that role in my Thopter deck, so I kind of just ported it over. I'm totally up for other suggestions though!

I love this deck, +1 from me. Does anyone know the CMC of Ember-Eye Wolf?

Thanks Ryjo!
No, I don't think so. I'm hoping it's a two-drop, but if Feral Ridgewolf is any indication, it's probably a 3-drop. I should really update the placeholder cards to show that ...

MTGNuclear and CheeseBro,
OK, I chose full-on Aggro, and made a bunch of changes. Hopefully the deck is looking a little less confused now! :-)

WHat about breakneck rider? its good stats for 3 and when you flip it it battlecries alll your wolves

Jehomovah,
Breakneck Rider looks like a fine card for a bunch of decks, but unfortunately not for this one. By that point in a game, the only way I expect to transform him is by passing my 4th turn, but I'd much rather be casting Zada then. And having the Rider stuck as a vanilla 3/3 just doesn't compare to Exquisite Firecraft. Thanks tons though; I appreciate the chance to re-look a bunch of my assumptions!

I agree that its a but less efficient but having more werewolves makes your zadas and silverfurs have way more value

Jehomovah,
Yeah, I totally agree with you on that. I'm just really hoping to see some more great Wolves and Werewolves for the one- and two-drop slots ...

Definitely, it's hard to get a full tech idea before we know all the tools available. One of the ones I was considering in my build was the Hinterland Logger. Since it can be a 4/2 trampler for 2 and against slower decks its not unreasonable to get the flip on the pass, especially if you start on the play.

Nice deck! I made a similar version except it was Naya and only splashed red for Zada, Hedron Grinder. It had Dromoka's Command, and other white combat tricks like Center Soul etc. Your deck still looks really powerful though!

Wolves are gonna be fun. Love Gruul. Good to see some brews are coming up. But I'll be holding my final excitement until the rest of Shadows is spoiled. After some time of playing Magic I've learned just 1 card can be spoiled that radically changes how I build a deck. Until then I'll be gettin ideas. +1

Jehomovah,
Yeah, Hinterland Logger / Timber Shredder looks really good. If I wasn't trying to cast a couple Instants every turn myself, I would look at her much closer. Of course, as you point out, we don't have all the tech yet ... maybe we'll see something like Immerwolf which prevents Werewolves from flipping back over again!

MurderHood,
Thanks tons! And yeah, I love Naya (I run both Rith, the Awakener and Hazezon Tamar in EDH)! I can see maybe splashing Black with Deathcap Cultivator, but I'm a little too chicken to try a three-color deck otherwise. :-)

HairyManBack,
I totally agree, but after spotting the Silverfur, I just couldn't wait any more to start brewing! Please ping me when your deck starts coming together; I look forward to seeing what you come up with!

Thanks again to you all!

Three-coloured decks are going to be much more difficult to run post SOI for two main reasons:

  1. No fetch lands.

  2. No tri lands.

A splash is always possible, and Evolving Wilds could help a bit, but I think it better to build a strong duo deck than a weaker tri-coloured.

Just so you're aware, going full on aggro can be frustrating. If you don't finish the game by turn four you usually lose control of the board.

How do we know fetches aren't going to be reprinted or another land to help?

March 19, 2016 11:53 p.m.

Messing with this idea on my own, I found that a R/G Wolf deck focusing on the Partisans can't really win turn 4, can maybe just barely do it turn 5, and can swing for several hundred trample on turn 6. Quite volatile, if you ask me...

Made a deck with the same idea as this on Goldfish. I like the way your deck is looking, check out mine on Goldfish (still new to all this brewing and Goldfish was easy for me to use) http://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/389137#paper

Standard format, MorgsJ, but if a modern list is made, then yes.
