On a similar topic what do u guys think Arlinn Kord will be worth $USD and MTGO tix (if familiar) when it gets in circulation?

I've been waiting for my two favorite color combinations: Bant and Gruul. Bant's got weapons now but this is what's going to sell me back to Gruul.

I hope it's not another Gideon. If it is, I'm going to throw a brick through Wizards corporate window.

She might be high. I feel like her +1 is too good to pass up just because of haste. Think of how much it would hurt to see a turn 1-2 group of Werewolves, sneaking in some damage, Silverfur Partisan turn 3 so nothing really gets removed by removal, turn 4 Arlinn and swing 6-8, turn 5 Thunderbreak smashing for 6 vigilance in the air every turn, with extra damage when it gets removed.

Wizards certainly did a great job making Werewolves something to consider. Perhaps they'll be like a tier 2 archetype like Warriors or something.

Argeaux, HairyManBack, NotSquishedYet, Axinoim, and MorgsJ,
Thanks tons for all the comments! Lemme see about catching up ...

Yeah, I know what you mean Argeaux and NotSquishedYet on the desire to get to a win by turn 4. Because of the combo, I was planning on 5, but I can't get there consistently yet. Spoilers this week will tell us all if this is a truly viable deck ...

We don't know anything about the SOI Lands yet HairyManBack (well, except for the enemy-colored tap lands of course), but I'd be *amazed if Wizards reprinted any kind of three-color support. There's just been nothing in either original Innistrad or SOI that indicates anything but two-color pairs matter.

Thanks for the kudos Axinoim and I'll definitely check out your deck. I had looked at Second Harvest but between Zada and Arlinn, I didn't want another 4-drop at all. I'm TOTALLY excited about the card though for my Rith, the Awakener EDH deck!

And yeah MorgsJ, Immerwolf would open up a bunch more Werewolves for consideration. Like I mention above, I'm REALLY hoping for a reprint or something similar ...

And I of course have no idea where Arlinn is going to end up :-) I'm really hoping above $30, because I'd love to pre-order a few ...

clayperce, thanks for building this deck. It's fabulous and gives me a great starting point for standard (were)wolves.

clayperce, I was actually saying it's nearly impossible with this deck... but that it's the absolute most powerful turns 5 and 6. If you can get it there, great! Otherwise, I can lay out a couple example scenarios for ideas on turns 5-6 unconditional wins.

I calculated out some average combos... GREAT CATCH, on the Might of the Masses. AMAZING. I love the card, and I didn't think to put it in those combos over Titan's Strength. Anyway, without that... Because of Expedite (and Swell of Growth, another one I didn't calculate yet), you can swing for between 200 and 6,000 with trample on turn 6 if they don't burn you out, FAST.

Thanks so much, Kala!

Good luck (and good skill) on your build, and please let me know when it comes together ... I'd love to see what you end up doing with it, too!

NotSquishedYet,
Yeah, that makes sense ... I'm not sure (even if we end up with the "perfect" Wolf and Werewolf spoilers) that turn 4 wins are going to be possible either. But like you, consistent turn 6 wins are already possible, so I'm very hopeful we can get to 5.

Glad you like Might of the Masses! I'm loving it in testing, but I'm not actually sure how it's going to perform on a real table ... it's going to be a REALLY frustrating draw when behind ... :-(

6,000 huh? WOW! That may set a new definition for win-more!

Yeah. :P Calculating in Swell of Growth it's not too unlikely to hit 20,000 if it's perfect... Oh, the dreams of Johnny players. It gets really hard to calculate. ._.

T1: Mountain, Village Messenger. 5 cards in hand. 1 damage

T2: Mountain, 2x VM. 3 in hand. 4 damage

T3: Forest, Silverfur Partisan. 2 in hand. 3 damage

T4: Mountain, Zada, Hedron Grinder. 1 in hand. 5 damage

T5: SP, Expedite. 6 cards in hand. 5x wolves->+5->+5. 15x wolves, 5 haste. Mountain, Expedite. 15x->+15->+15. 45 wolves, 15 haste. 20 cards in hand, discard down to 7 later. 30 damage

T6:

Forest, Titan's Strength. 45-> 3x 4/2, 42x 5/3, 90 2/2, +3/+1 Zada.

Titan's Strength, -> 3x 7/3, 42x 8/4, 90x 5/3, 270 2/2, +6/+2 Zada.

Brute Strength, -> 3x 10/4, 42x 11/5, 90x 8/4, 270x 5/3, 810 2/2, +9/+3 Zada.

Reckless Bushwhacker, surged. 3x 11/4, 42x 12/5, 90x 9/4, 270x 6/3, 810x 3/2, 1x 13/6, 1x 2/1.

5412 damage.

Swell of growth means that after you draw 20 cards with Expedite, you ramp out 8 lands, boost the team, replicate it, and have the mana to Expedite again for almost the rest of your deck, then play more Swell of Growth, leaving you with enough mana to play 16 combo pieces instead of 4.

Gameover209X,
I totally forgot to tag you on my list of "impressive Legacy/Modern/previous-Standard Wolf decks" ... sorry about that! Any thoughts on this one?

NotSquishedYet,
Ooh, I hadn't even thought about Swell of Growth after a big Expedite draw. Thanks TONS!

clayperce, one of the better Werewolf in SOI is Breakneck Rider. He seems really good for 3 mana. He is a 3/3, if he flips he becomes a 4/3, if he attacks he is 5/3 with Trample. He gives all your attacking creatures +1/0 and Trample when he flips. This can be powerful with the Wolves Arlinn Kord and Silverfur Partisan make and with Village Messenger because he has Menace.

clayperce says... #13

multimedia,
That's a great card for a lot of decks, but as I explained in #11 above, I don't think it's a good fit for this one. Thanks though!

+1, but I have to say, Zurgo Bellstriker seems a little out of place.

March 21, 2016 3:50 p.m.

clayperce says... #15

whatskraken,
Yeah, I agree. Zurgo's a great one-drop, but I'm really hoping for something better. And thanks much for the kudos!

March 21, 2016 3:56 p.m.

Village Messenger? Oh... It's not in the database. Anyway. R for a 1/1, haste. Same old transform mechanic. Flipside is a 2/2 with menace.

March 21, 2016 4:04 p.m.

clayperce says... #17

NotSquishedYet,
Yeah, I love Village Messenger! As I mentioned in the description, I'm using Reckless Waif  Flip as a placeholder for now.

Kala says... #18

clayperce, have you thought about sin prodder, the devil dude? He gives card advantage and has a good body plus menace.

March 21, 2016 5:44 p.m.

clayperce says... #19

Kala,
I hadn't yet, but thanks much for pointing it out!

I think that Sin Prodder is another card that's going to be great in a bunch of decks, but not this one. Here, it competes in the 3-drop slot against Exquisite Firecraft, and while the body is nice, it only does 4 points of conditional damage 8% of the time ... and ~65% of the time it'd be doing only 0-1 :-(

Thanks again though!

I'm as giddy as a school girl about Silverfur Partisan. He's exactly what wolves have called for with the insane value magic has turned into. And with the planeswalker? Wow. Gruul fans are shitting their pants about now. Or, at least I am.

EddieRhino says... #21

Just wondering- is this actually standard?

March 21, 2016 10:17 p.m.

clayperce says... #22

EddieRhino,
Kind of. I'm building it for SOI Standard, so it won't be legal until 8 Apr. I also have a few placeholder cards, listed in the deck description ... I'll swap them for the actual SOI cards as the T/O database gets updated.

Kala says... #23

OK, I'm back. I know it says you've considered Duskwatch Recruiter, but I think it could be an amazing two-drop, easily taking the place of timberpack wolf. It's a 2/2->3/3 for 2, that generates additional creature/card advantage.

March 21, 2016 11:04 p.m.

clayperce says... #24

Kala,
I was sweeping comments right as you brought up Duskwatch Recruiter so I missed it. But I totally agree it deserves a relook for the Timberpack Wolf slot. I don't really remember why I dismissed it earlier ... maybe the flip side hadn't been spoiled yet, so I kind of blew it off?

Whatever the reason, thanks tons for bringing it up again!
