Based on Pack 1 it looks like we'll be playing Bant.

Accidentally posted this in today's thread, intending to post it here:

I'm actually pretty excited about this deck's Bant splash possibilities. It seems like Frontline Medic 's indestructible battalion would work pretty well with an otherwise solidly Simic deck. Not to mention that fact that a 3/3 body is pretty decent for triggering Evolve.

Yay Bantcrash.

Posting this here so we can keep track of it.

We can probably have a good idea of what Elaine is drafting at this point. From pack 1 pick 1, we passed her a Sunhome Guildmage , Pit Fight , Simic Charm , Act of Treason , and Syndic of Tithes . In pack 2 pick 2, she took a common and passed us Frontline Medic and several solid Simic cards.

She's not in Boros, there are no commons more valuable than a medic for a Boros deck. That means she didn't take the Sunhome Guildmage unless she was hate drafting or changed her mind. She's probably not into simic very much or we wouldn't have seen so many good simic cards passed around.

That leaves three solid picks that she could have taken from her second pick. Since she didn't take the medic, we could once again assume she's not in orzhov, although that is a bit less certain. That would leave Pit Fight and Act of Treason . We also saw a few solid red picks, but not that many.

I'd wager she's drafting gruul with perhaps a splash of another color.

A Gruul Charm also wheeled to her from her first pick, so if she is drafting gruul, she probably got either a R or G bomb rare (primordials come to mind) or she counted on it wheeling back.

Elaine's greatest drafting strength, from the history of these, is an eerie ability to predict exactly what will wheel and what will not. She is rarely wrong.

Elaine is playing Orzohv with a Dimir splash.

Are your fellow drafters real people, or did you draft for them?

February 27, 2013 4:11 p.m.

KrazyCaley says... #8

@Chubbub - Our opponents are actual human beings; they are people I know who play Magic. They have varying levels of skill/experience. You can go back to the first GTC DDD article to learn a little bit about them, and why I use pseudonyms for them.

Cool, thanks.

I think our goal should be to get at least 6x Shambleshark and play one on turn two every single game.

At the end of their turn, of course.

Not that it's likely to make the cut, but didn't we autodraft a Righteous Charge?

March 1, 2013 5:39 p.m.

KrazyCaley says... #12

@sewellius Haven't added the batch from that last fast round of autodrafting.

@KrazyCaley Oh got it. Makes sense now.

We took a third on a recent pick already.

I'm not a fan of our white creatures other than Frontline Medic.

We aren't going to be able to reliably cast Daring Skyjek in the early to mid-game, Syndic of Tithes just doesn't fit in our deck at all (good as it is), and I am very uncomfortable with the double white of Angelic Skirmisher's mana cost.

I feel like we're giving up too much of our consistency to try to splash for all of these. Running our Medics with two Prophetic Prisms and maybe 1-2 Plains is perfectly doable. Any more white mana than that and we start hurting our ability to cast Shambleshark on turn two, which this deck really wants to do.

Thoughts?

March 5, 2013 10:49 a.m.

@ dorminjake I'm on board with all of that.

March 5, 2013 10:58 a.m.

Something's wrong here. We autodrafted TWO Hydroform in pack 1 and pack 2, and I'm pretty certain we only have two Hands of Binding.

@Goody - You're quite right. I knew something was wrong, but hadn't gone back yet to figure out exactly what. Thanks, saved me some time.

March 5, 2013 3:42 p.m.

i suggest we cut the following

1x Angelic Skirmisher1x Daring Skyjek1x Ember Beast2x Hands of Binding2x Hydroform1x Last Thoughts1x Massive Raid1x Mugging1x Righteous Charge1x Syndic of Tithes1x Undercity Informer

and run 16 lands Land (16)7x Forest7x Island1x Plains1x Simic Guildgate

Such a deck would look like this GTC DDD Deck copy
