To change...
Hello everyone! Here is my latest take on this deck. Its a deck I've been playing on-and-off with for the last four years, and I'm quite excited to see how it does in the current metagame with JTMS and BBE.
The biggest challenge with this deck is keeping tempo versus 1 cmc removal. Keeping momentum and finding the hate pieces in time is huge for this deck. Board wipes are horrible for this deck as well. Terminus is the worst of these since Scavenging Ooze cannot profit off the bin post-cast.
Another challenge is pushing through the last bit of damage to end the game. Past versions of this deck would run Baneslayer Angel, Sigarda, Host of Herons, or Elspeth, Knight-Errant to finish the game. This build mostly relies on keeping pressure with curving out with Noble Hierarch and Aether Vial, flooding the board with Collected Company or pumping the board with Gavony Township. However, I feel like a one-of Sigarda or Elspeth could go a long way in this deck. The problem is that 26 creatures for CoCo is already on the lower spectrum to hit reliably. 25 would only make that even worse.
This build of GW Hatebears is heavily inspired by Craig Wescoe's build on TCG Player with some changes, and definitely, more changes to come. My list focuses more on the flicker effects of Flickerwisp and Restoration Angel; both allow for protection from single target removal and other interesting effects. Blade Splicer works better than Mirran Crusader as a beater in this deck because of these effects.
This list is ever-changing, and now that Death's Shadow is becoming less popular, I've moved 1x Mirran Crusader to the sideboard. An extra Voice of Resurgence (to punish control) and a Ramunap Excavator (to help against Tron) might be correct; I also took out 2 Rest in Peace from the side since Storm has become less popular. Dredge is starting to make a comeback as of late, so this might be incorrect.
Any tips and critiques are appreciated.
If anyone is curious, here is how my first build of GW Hatebears looked 4 years ago. I love seeing this build. Really wish Baneslayer Angel was still a relevant card haha.
