The idea is to swing as hard and quickly as possible.
Ideas:
Buff up Champion of the Parish with swarming the board with humans, preferably Mayor of Avabruck
who can give +2/+2 when it hits the board. Later, buff him with Rancor or the Ethereal Armor. Obvious benefits also come from Silverblade Paladin.
Wolfbitten Captive
was thrown in because through playtesting my old deck that I just didn't have enough things happening early, and if I didn't have Champion of the Parish pop up in my hand, my aggressiveness sort of got hindered. I thought this was a pretty good choice for Green 1 drop - make him have bite when he needs it plus, pairing with the Silverblade Paladin has obvious benefits again.
I guess the other idea here is to maybe replace the
Wolfbitten Captive
with Avacyn's Pilgrim, but I really didn't think I needed a ramp up if I was going to be trying to do as much damage as possible earlier on rather than waiting for the Sublime Archangel or the Sigarda, Host of Herons to pop up.
Fencing Ace was a great choice in play test, but I did have some doubters commenting on its viability in the deck. I realised that this card really has the tendency to get out of hand if the opponent doesn't watch out. Paired with Rancor and Ethereal Armor really makes him swing hard, somewhere in the 8s and 10s on turn 3 or 4 etc. A very dangerous card in my opinion, which is why I opted to put him in.
The Mayor of Avabruck
functions much like the old Honor of the Pure for my humans. Synergy was key here, where he helps bolster both humans and my other werewolf option. His flipped ability is quite dangerous too, and benefits from +1/+1 which really helped me with board presence if the situation got there.
The Silverblade Paladin is self explanatory, add him to my big swingers to do lethal damage, preferably to my flyers, but I did realise that he does tend to get removed very often. Every opponent so far has burned or removed him. I guess it should be expected with cards like Searing Spear and
Mugging
and
Pillar of Flame
going about. But in the right situations, I've seen that he brings me victories - I've also seen my opponents see this card as more of a threat than the others? when clearly my other cards bring the damage through and the opponent is sort of intimidated into spending a burn they should use elsewhere.
Fiend Hunter is my favourite card. I just love what it does and I love its artwork. He can withstand a lot of burn spells which is nice, but his utility is what I found wanting in this deck. With my previous deck with the Loxodon Smiters in his place, although the elephants are big and when paired for doublestrike - are awesome - I've realised that sometimes, the enemy just has such a big creature or some creature with an effect or deathtouch etc. that just doesn't allow me to free-swing like I wanted to. Fiend Hunter I believe is the answer, whilst working with my other previously mentioned human synergies to really allow me to control the field in addition to my Oblivion Rings.
Sublime Archangel and Sigarda, Host of Herons are quite self-explanatory. When one of my flyers can fly over, Exalted with my other pumps is just simply fantastic. Sigarda, Host of Herons is just my late game swinger, and I dunno if she requires any explanation apart from the fact that she swings like a truck when paired with Silverblade Paladin lol.
Sideboard:
Loxodon Smiter and Thalia, Guardian of Thraben are both cards to counter control decks, as Fiend Hunter probably loses prominence in those match ups. My sideboard selection is built for those different situations.
Blind Obedience is amazing for fighting against other aggro decks. I wish I had more. What would I replace if I were to obtain another one?
Could anyone make any suggestions? I dunno if I'm making full use of what the deck can do.
Should I go with Avacyns Pilgrims? and what about Angelic Overseer?
Thanks!
