There is a lot to like about this deck. Is there any room for a Thalia, Heretic Cathar?

July 29, 2016 2:15 a.m.

Lordeh Thanks for the upvote and the suggestion, much appreciated! To tell you the truth I tried to fit Thalia, Heretic Cathar in the sideboard, but I felt my sideboard was already perfect. I don't see her being mainboard. I like Tireless Tracker more for a 3/2 three drop. I'll do some experimenting though.

this seems good, a lot of synergies here

I feel like a 2 of Kytheon, Hero of Akros  Flip would be at home here

Herrosix I thought about Gideons but I could never fit them in so as of now he's a maybe. He does seem easy to flip in this deck, but I am always iffy on running multiple legendary creatures. I'll do some tests. Thanks for the comment!

Always Watching ? And 2 more DiS

August 27, 2016 9:25 p.m.

Kiivuhl I considered Always Watching but I didn't like it because the deck creates a lot of human tokens that doesn't receive the buff. I may have to add it in when Dragons rotates out. As for Declaration in Stone I believe 2 is fine. When rotation occurs I may add Quarantine Field unless Kaladesh brings better things.

Hamlet Captain! I overlooked this card, and now I definitely will have to try the deck.

recruiter's "draw" is used only in 1 per 3-5 games. But Hanweir is just wincon.

needs more 1 drops for faster play

August 29, 2016 9:30 p.m.

RyuujiTakasu There aren't many 1 drop humans in Standard though that are any good. I'm already using Thraben Inspector and Dragon Hunter. Only viable options are Kytheon, Hero of Akros  Flip which I don't like because he's legendary and only 1 can be on the field at a time and then there's Town Gossipmonger  Flip which I like and may use post-rotation once Dragon Hunter leaves.

the only other 1 drop is Expedition Envoy

I love it! Are there any strategies you can share to maximize use of the deck? Particularly the best use of Declaration in Stone, but I'll take anything you're willing to share. Thanks!

Lowflyinggoose Thanks! So this deck utilizes clues and counters to deal the most damage. There's many synergies. Sack a clue with Ulvenwald Mysteries nets you a human token, puts a +1/+1 counter on Tireless Tracker and Thalia's Lieutenant and draws you a card. Heron's Grace Champion has flash so lots of combat tricks there. People forget that Hamlet Captain ability triggers when he blocks too so all humans get +1/+1. As for Declaration in Stone, I mainly use it to get rid of multiple threats that are tough to deal with like plant tokens, thopters and Sylvan Advocate when they enough lands. My removal doesn't destroy it exiles so I want to use it wisely on slightly bigger threats. On the draw I'd side out the Ulvenwald Mysteries because it's really slow. I'd bring in Dragon Hunter for a 2/1 Human turn 1.

Awesome! Thanks for the thorough response. I'm hoping to try this out at FNM, so I'll let you know how it goes if that happens.

friend tried a similar deck at FNM before eldritch moon, instead with ten 1 drops, Consul's Lieutenant and Knight of the White Orchid. he got top in 4 for several weeks in a row.

and 4 Always Watching for turn 4-5 win

August 30, 2016 9:43 p.m.

I tried it at an FNM the other night and finished with a 4 way tie for first place. We could have went to tie breaker rounds but everyone was too tired. Deck played real well and I found out its weak points are Planeswalkers. That's where Display of Dominance comes in... for another month that is. Mainy against Sorin, Ob Nixilis, Tamiyo and Liliana

ive helped playtest humans in standard with my control deck thats gonna be cycling out. Found their weakness to be the Languish at turn 4-5, because the humans will fall behind and lose resources as the control deck sets up. But sigarda, and tireless tracker were annoying to deal with.

August 30, 2016 9:55 p.m.

Yeah Languish was definitely annoying but what really saved me against control was Ulvenwald Mysteries and clues. They helped with rebuilding and refreshed my hand. It will be rotating out soon so I won't have to worry about it much longer. Only Grasp of Darkness.

I tried a variation of this, but with Duskwatches and only 1 Hamlet. I think you're right about the limited use of Duskwatch. I did in fact activate a few times over many games, but I feel like I only want this late game, though I do want it. I'm going to try 3 Hamlet, 2 Duskwatches.

Suppression Bonds also works on planeswalkers. I understand that Display is cheaper, but it only hits a blue or black permanent whereas Bonds can stop an opposing Gideon, Chandra or Nissa.

I agree with running Duskwatch Recruiter  Flip. You might not be digging that often, but it does help find a creature you need...not to mention that if it flips it reduces the casting cost of all your creatures by 1, pretty handy with your flash mob Heron's Grace Champion. Another card that could help is Courageous Outrider. He lets you dig for a human and with a 4 toughness it can survive most targeted, damage based removal.

So... If you want to play with tokens (still think Ulvenwald Mysteries is to slow for aggro humans, so it is just a bad card here), then maybe add red? For example Hanweir Garrison, which is really hudge tempo card? And combo with Hanweir Battlements (but I dont recommend more than 1/2 cities). In the other hand - red gives you more options like Incendiary Flow and Collective Defiance.

BUT!!!! Dont forget about rotation for 2/3 weeks (I am not sure when). Collective Effort instead of command? Pump up tokens :)

Ahh.. and after Khaladesh appear - 1/2 Angel of Invention maybe?

jubale says... #25

This isn't aggro humans, though. It's midrange humans. I think Mysteries works fine in this list.

About Suppression Bonds, I feel Quarantine Field is a better card if you need a 4-drop answer to planeswalkers. But, I'm doubtful this deck needs such. Generally it's just the black walkers that are a problem, so Display is just a better option.
