Sideboard

Maybeboard

My first attempt of bringing Starfield to the Modern format, currently trying to build a competetive Deck that feels fresh while beeing fun to play.It might need some fine-tuning but for now, I will experiment further with the current build. At the moment it plays like an anti-midrange midrange deck- sounds weird but it has some really good matchups. It is easy to cycle through this deck with all the carddraw engines such as Kruphix's Insight or the Eidolon of Blossoms and pseudo carddraw with Courser of Kruphix, combined with the ramp provided by Birds of Paradise + Herald of the Pantheon this deck is faster than one would expect.

Winning? There are 2 options to win with this deck: You either deny your opponents board with exile cards/ enchantments and outvalue him with the power of the Starfield of Nyx - remember to hit his face- OR you overrun him with your angel tokens created by Sigil of the Empty Throne.

Choices

Why just 2 Sigils/ Sieges? -> There is enough ramp provided already and with the Kruphix's Insight + Starfield of Nyx you should be able to either search for your win conditions OR dump them in the grave in order to bring them back with another Starfield of Nyx .

Why not the Citadel Siege? Not good enough for a spot in the deck in my opinion and too slow.I won't talk a lot about the Sideboard, since it is really self-explanatory: hate cards like Leyline of Sanctity against Burn or Nevermore against combo decks like Twin or Living End.I prefer Ghostly Prison over Safety Sphere at the moment, since they both basically accomplish the same goal, as they work against attacks- Prison just comes way earlier/easier into play which is why it works better against Aggro.

I really like Stasis Snare , as an instant removal that might catch your opponent off-guard with this kind of deck, it also works against Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker rather well.

THINGS TO REMEMBER:

Try to survive the early game, this deck is very reactive, so don't try to attack at risky times where it isn't necessary to do so. Your time will come! (Later in the game, I promise ;3 )

Frontier Siege has 2 modes, both are useful in some way for this deck, usually you want the ramp that it provides but once there is a Sigil of the Empy Throne on the board, you can let your angels fight everything you want, which is a powerful way to clear the board.

It isn't often recommended to have 2 Starfields out- Why? Because they transform each other into a creature when they trigger, so your opponent can easily wipe your board with Damnation etc. and there is (usually) no option for you to come back from that point. In matchups against burn for example, it doesn't really matter if you have 1 or more Starfield out, since there won't be a chance for them to destroy your enchantments/ 5/5 Starfield without using things like double Lightning Bolt ...but who would do that :o - apart from basic enchantment hate, so feel free to vomit your Starfields all over the place :D

A lot of the cards in this list require , so I might mess around a bit with the mana base if I happen to run into mana problems more frequently...

Game Plan! (Well that is what we do)

Try to build up your ramp early, mulligan for Birds of Paradise + Herald of the Pantheon is the key to victory, having Courser of Kruphix in your opening hand isn't half bad either. Just try not to end up with Starfield of Nyx or Sigil of the Empty Throne in your hand and you should be fine. It is easy to control the board with the exile heavy build, regenerate or indestructible creatures won't help your opponent at all, midgame to late you can get rid of his artifacts, plainswalkers or enchantments with Oblivion Ring.Once you can establish your control and get your Starfield off, there should be not much that can stop your onslaught from there on. If you don't want to attack with your precious enchantments, why don't you try out hitting your opponent with your angels? Kruphix's Insight + Sigil of the Empty Throne work perfectly with the Starfield, since you can discard your Sigil early in the game and get it back later with your Starfield of Nyx in your upkeep, cheat yourself those 5 mana and get some angels going that turn.

Possible Changes and Suggestions

Splashing : I haven't tested it out but I would suggest it has better matchups against heavy control decks with cards like Inquisition of Kozilek / Thoughtseize and cards like Demonic Pact are a great addition, since you can always get rid of it itself with the 4 damage if needed- as long as Starfield triggers OR you can run it into the enemy so he either has to block a 4/4 or take the damage; it is rather easy to get away without having to deal with its negative effect which causes you to lose the game :o

If you have any suggestions, please write them in the comments, I am happy to add things to the maybeboard and try them out at our locals asap, I hope you had the time to read this description! This is my first deck that I upload here and I tried to make this description as fun and as detailed as possible :3

Updates Add

Changed the description and made it more detailed, added more cards to the maybeboard section for future reference. Changed the number of Ghostly Prison to 4 in the mainboard, added 1 Rest in Peace to the Sideboard for it, cut out 1 Birds of Paradise for space; might change Kruphix's Insight to 3 for a 3rd Eidolon of Blossoms
