Results from the first two modern FNMs I've played in, both using GW Value Town. As I get more familiar with Modern, I'll attempt to do more fleshed out descriptions of the matches.

FNM Modern 4/21/17 (2-1)

  • 2-1 vs Mono Red Goblins Lost the first game rather quickly. Boarded in the Burrenton Forge-Tender for games two and three for great effect - ended up drawing it both games.

  • 0-2 vs Mono White Humans My opponent hit double Champion of the Parish into Thalia's Lieutenant both games. Feels bad man.

  • 2-1 vs U Tron Won the first game by dealing lethal with a Platinum Angel on my opponents board, then Path to Exileing it. I lost the second game by not understanding that my opponent had an infinite Mindslaver combo - I had the opportunity to Surgical Extraction it. My opponent was unable to assemble Tron in time in the last game, whereas I hit enough creatures to deal lethal by turn five.

FNM Modern 5/19/17 (3-1)

  • 2-0 vs Dredge The first game I ended up sticking enough threats early to push damage through. The second game, I was able to cast Surgical Extraction on his Prized Amalgams turn two.

  • 0-2 vs Burn I should have been a bit more careful with my life total in terms of fetches/shocks. Need more practice against burn.

  • 2-0 vs Mono Green I think this was a new player - they had some cards from Eternal Masters in their deck that weren't Modern legal that they had to replace. Both games they ended up getting mana screwed.

  • 1-0-1 vs Grixis Death's Shadow First game was similar to my matchup against Dredge - I was able to stick enough threats to eventually just push enough damage through. Second game ended up with a gross board state that we weren't able to clear in time.

I'm having a ton of fun playing this deck, win or lose. The deck is strong enough to compete with Tier 1 decks and there's plenty of interesting interaction in each game. I'm planning on getting the last Noble Hierarch and Tarmogoyf this weekend, so I'm pretty close to having it to spec.
