Well aren't you more observant than I am? That's a good point. Well, I'm going to go take my stupidity elsewhere before I rub off on anyone XD Thanks for the tip.

Great Deck! big fan of this because its totally Budget. Through multiple tests a few things that slow the deck by a lot is your land base. I myself use Golgari Rot Farm, Dimir Aqueduct, however, I always run 2 in any deck I have them in. I would consider only running 2--1 of each or 2 of one. Just because playing them requires you to return a land back to your hand when you simply just need a mana fixer, which Evolving Wilds can do better in a 3 mana deck, even just another island, swamp, or forest. I always ran into not having any islands for Diregraf and Havengegul, or when I did draw it was Dimir Aqueduct which took another turn away from me when mulch or tracker couldn't help.

Above all else the deck is pretty solid, not a fan for Nyx Weaver due to his cost and self mill but it doesn't due to bad in here. +1 from me!

Thanks for the comment and suggestions. However with running Mulch I don't often get mana screwed or colour screwed with this deck, it also only see's casual play so I prefer the land drop consistency a Rot Farm or Aqueduct offers me over a simple mana fixing card.

The Nyx Weaver was added for the sole purpose of going to fetch Rooftop Storm or Havengul Lich out of the graveyard if necessary if I'd self milled passed it with Mulch or Tracker's Instincts. It often stays in my hand unless absolutely necessary or I've got enough cards in the library and a Havengul Lich and Rooftop Storm out so that its worth the self mill for a few turns to put zombie's into the graveyard so I can play them for 1 mana.

+1, wow! this is a good reanimator deck in a budget.what do you think about this card: Opulent Palace and Ghoultree?

January 17, 2015 8:03 a.m.

nutzbox says... #6

oops i forgot about the disclaimer!

Opulent Palace i would like to add 4 of this in replace for 2 Jwar Isle Refuge, 1 Dimir Aqueduct, 1 Golgari Rot Farm, all of this lands comes into play tapped and i think 3 mana choices is better than 2 :)

for Ghoultree, I would add 2 of this in replace for 1 Cemetery Reaper and 1 Dread Slaver, running mulch and tracker's instinct will beef up the graveyard with creatures that will help cast this ghoultree either from your hand or using havengul lich (while waiting to cast rooftop storm).

and both this card are aligned with your budget theme.

I definitely agree with the Opulent Palace suggestion, I just need to get round to having enough cards I want to get to warrant a single's order.

I did initially start out considering Ghoultree for this deck but went for Dread Slaver instead for its ability. With Captains and Reapers out a Dread Slaver becomes big enough for my needs and Deadly Allure is in the sideboard specifically to combo with it incase an opponent is running heavy hitters as then I can conscript some of their creatures.

Thanks for the suggestions (and the reasons for :-))

I instantly become a fan of your deck ideas after seeing this and your "exponential wurm of life". May I ask your permission if I can copy and build this one? I really want to have a reanimator deck but hesitant to have one due to budget restriction but seeing this, you really did a great job creating a decent budget friendly reanimator deck.

Copy away :-). I really like to see what people do with decks based on any of mine, its always a source of inspiration.

well first of all, nice deck. as for suggestions:i'd imagine that with all of the Mulch effects, that you are pretty well set up mana wise. you could probably cut 1-2. you could probably cut 1 Unbreathing Horde. id fill these spots with Silent Departure. my reason being is that you dont do much until turn 5. your opponent probably is. this gives you at least a little bit of tempo, it has flashback in case its milled and its less than 20 cents. thats all i got really. +1

Thanks for the suggestion and the +1.

Gnaw to the Bone normally gets me out of the hole I'm in by turn 5 as I will have hopefully milled and thrown some 3 drops in front of what they are throwing at me resulting in enough creatures in the graveyard to make the life back up.

You have stated that you want to kind of stay away from the token generation, but I wanted to give this suggestion to a fellow zombie player: I use an Undead Alchemist with an Altar of the Brood combo. It does churn out tokens if the Altar manages to snag an opponent's creature and mills at the same time. With all of the graveyard recursion you have going on, I could see it being devastating, especially at the kitchen table. It also fits the budget bill. Nice zombie twist. +1

I am considering putting another zombie deck together but based around the more conventional token spam so this might be a good starting point. Thanks for the suggestion and +1.

Do you really want the bounce lands? I didn't really read your description, but I could see it is budget. My issue with them is that you have zero one drops, which isn't a bad thing, but that does mean you can afford turn one slow lands.

I would say that on a budget you could get more mileage out of a full playset of generic fetchlands. Like Evolving Wilds or Terramorphic Expanse.

What is your reasoning for having the bounce lands?

June 1, 2015 1:24 p.m.

Headers13 says... #17

The bounce lands allow the deck to effectively run 28 lands in the space occupied by 24. As the deck only see's casual play I favor consistent land drops which these lands offer.

i think a Secrets of the Dead would do good in here

I normally draw \ cast from graveyard 80% of the cards in this deck in a normal game so I don't think I need the additional card draw. I might end up milling myself if I'm not careful! but thanks for the suggestion.

Green zambiez and no Ghoultree? Sometimes you don't need abilities. sometimes for a 10/10 is all you need.

But much more relevantly and (I do hope) helpfully, I have quite a bit of experience playing zombies and I hope I can shed some aid.

Call to the Grave. Seems bad. Isn't. Always made my opponents cry and/or concede.

Lifebane Zombie is amazing in sideboard. Especially if you can hit Angel of Glory's Rise. Not likely, but doesn't really matter. Good SB card.

I assume you run this in Tribal? In my area, a local store has invented a format which is now spreading to other stores and even other states- It is called Bad Tribal, and the focal point is the idea that not all tribes are created equal so the ones that win a lot should be banned, and they are (needless to say, black zombies are on the banned list. Mind that any other color is fine.). Humans I have found are every where- I've only seen a couple actual human decks, but for example knights, warriors, shamans, etc will nearly always have at least a few humans of their tribe. Zombie Apocalypse?

(Of course, in Bad Tribal not only are Black Zombies banned but so are Sideboards due to the presence of so many anti-specific-tribe cards.)

Endless Ranks of the Dead is really anti climactic. Would not recommend.

Same applies to Grave Betrayal.

And obviously Army of the Damned.

Unbreathing Horde doesn't seem that fantastic to me.

There is of course Pontiff of Blight as an end to your curve. Every spell burns one and you gain one?

Other cards possibly worth considering:

Liliana's Reaver

Blood Scrivener

At least these are cards I used to run. +1, Have fun!

And since you're a casual player, if you want, I'll post the rules of the Bad Tribal format on your page. You may find it fun. I do.

How did you make the drop down menu on the deck?

October 4, 2015 8:20 p.m.

Headers13 says... #22

If you're familiar with html tags then its:

'details''summary style="text-indent: 1em;''/summary''/details'

replacing ' with < and > where applicable, and text that appears between the opening and closing summary tags will be what appears on the drop downs.

How are you making the font a gradient color for the part that says "Zombie Reanimation"?

February 5, 2019 3:51 a.m.

Headers13 says... #24

Go here:

www.vex.net/~x/xfade/advanced.html

Create the faded text you want and then just paste the HTML into the description of your deck.

Winding Way is a strictly better upgrade for Mulch, as it can also look for creatures, if needed.
