Commander / EDH Aggro Casual Counters Multiplayer WB (Orzhov)

"Silverquill Statement" is the first precon I bought, and Breena, the Demagogue the third commander I built in paper. Although perhaps considered the weakest of the Strixhaven precon commanders, Breena caught my eye because of her unique ability. Firstly, she functions as a card draw engine, an important trait for any commander I play to have since it will help keep me in the game and eventually out-value my opponents. Secondly, she encourages opponents to leave her on the board and fight amongst themselves in order to benefit off her card draw. This second trait makes it surprising I ended up playing Breena, because I personally hate most if not all symmetrical effects, especially when it comes to card draw. However, I feel that Breena ultimately leans towards benefitting you the most; her ability will always buff your creatures, and the card draw symmetry will help keep attention off you to allow you to advance your plans and politick a bit better at the table (though after a couple of years of playing her, I've found that people eventually become more inclined to offing her, since her counters can get out of control fairly quickly). Additionally, you'll usually be able to draw two cards, while everyone else will mostly draw 1 card off her unless they happen to be the opponent with the lowest life.

Recently revised this decklist as of 3/19/25 to give the discard subtheme another go with a small amount of hatebears. The idea, as the name implies, is to empty out opponents' hands and make it difficult to get what they want out of their decks, thereby encouraging them to make use of Breena's effect. As one commenter pointed out a few years ago, they may be inclined to attack you once you make them discard, but you should be able to protect yourself with your bolstered creatures and prison effects. Plus, true to the precon's original theme, part of the fun with Breena is politicking and seeing if you can actually convince your opponents to attack the way you want them to.
