I realized that most of my casual decks have Red in them, so after making a UR, RG, and RW deck, I wanted to fill the BR void with something. I was initially hesitant to do this since the last time I made a casual BR deck it was similar to other decks I made (went fast and hard in the early game). I didn't want to do that again, but after a night slinging spells I realized my playgroup really doesn't like swinging with creatures. With that knowledge, and recognizing that Kardur, Doomscourge exists, I had my theme: Forced combat.

My goal with this deck is to force my opponents to swing with their creatures when it may not be in their best interest to do so. Throw in some small group slug features and we have a deck that, at the very least, will accelerate the games its played in. This deck is designed with free-for-all multiplayer in mind, and not for 1v1 games. The early game is about goading creatures and draining everyone's life with cards like Spear Spewer, Stormfist Crusader, Bloodthirsty Blade, and Shiny Impetus. Midgame is about capitalizing on goaded creatures and building our own board with cards like Kardur, Doomscourge, Vengeful Ancestor, and Karazikar, the Eye Tyrant. Late game is more about chaotic effects from Havoc Festival, Sire Of Insanity, and Captive Audience.

The basic gameplan is to force my opponents to lower their defenses while draining their life away, then applying additional pressure on the board with creatures like Lightning Reaver and Clackbridge Troll. With constant pressure being applied, we should be able to easily kill off our opponents after they beat each other up.

Updates Add

Played a little bit since my last update, and I wasn't too impressed with how the deck functioned. I was certainly able to goad more creatures but as soon as matches went from 4 players to 3, it was clear that I was simply playing kingmaker. Despite my original intentions, I want this deck to be more oppressive. I want players to feel like every win was a close-call. So, I made a few swaps.

Removed Karazikar, the Eye Tyrantfoil; Added Sire Of Insanity. My thoughts: I never saw Karazikar in the entirety of playing this deck. Additionally, I have to consider this from a top-deck POV. Karazikar doesn't impact the board as much as I would like for 5 mana, and for 1 mana more I can continuously force everyone to top-deck. I am losing a method of card draw, but as I said: I never drew into this card or played it. So I'm not really losing anything.

Removed Court of Ire; Added Havoc Festival. If I had Court of Ire early enough, I could potentially reap the full benefits of it, but late game is basically turned into "give target opponent monarch." I will need to see if there's a home for monarch anywhere in this deck at some point, but currently? No. Plus, again, for 1 more mana I'm putting a major threat on the table. Court of Ire never really had the same kind of impact for me.

Removed Rite of the Raging Storm; Added Hunted Dragon. I've enjoyed Rite of the Raging storm for a long time, but it comes with a major drawback: everyone else gets to use it before I do. While it does help accelerate everyone else beating each other up, I've decided to axe it in favor of a bigger creature that acts as a political tool. Hunted Terror worked to my advantage whenever I played it and I think the Hunted Dragon will act the same way.

Removed Akroan Horse; Added Vengeful Ancestor. Akroan Horse sounds fun, but it never came up early enough to matter and wouldn't have mattered when I could've played it. Instead, we're adding another copy of Vengeful Ancestor to keep goading creatures and potentially stack the damage triggers it has.

Other cards I'm looking to cut are Clackbridge Troll and Crown of Doom. Kardur, Doomscourge is also maybe on the chopping block since it doesn't technically goad creatures, but I'm torn. I don't want to cut the card that was the inspiration for the deck! I have also considered adding more cards to the deck by default, but we'll see how things turn out after a few more games.
