Triple-green's entirely doable, though, especially if you've got Xenagos or some mana dorks out! A 6/6 reach beater for 5 is not to be scoffed at.

4x Domri with only 25 creatures is too much, agreed. I can't sing Clan Defiance 's praises enough if you're considering it, though. What sort of mixed luck have you had with it?

Colossus might be better than the Mistcutters main. I still really quite like the Ember Swallowers. I rarely have problems with lands, and their loss can really hurt other decks. Plus he's another solid 4-drop to deliver the beats.

Clan Defiance was great when I ran the devotion GR deck. I dealt 55 damage once. But I just don't have that excess mana here, and Blood has just been phenomenal.

Haha I can't argue that Blood pulls its weight.

Truthfully, Arbor makes Blood even better.

Where's Burning-Tree Emissary ? Also, with your deck title, what if you're playing the mirror match? Do you just intentionally draw in that case?

Burning-Tree is great if you're going full devotion and ramping super hard, but she just doesn't play as well in the mid/top-heavy Gruul Monsters Midrange lists. She might net you a free Scavenging Ooze or Sylvan Caryatid , but that's about it. It's great if you're abusing Nykthos, but not when your goal is hitting with fatties.

When Gruul fights Gruul, it's a Pit Fight , there's a lot of Clan Defiance , and we essentially go all Gruul Ragebeast on each other.

minus 2 ember swalloer plus 1 mizzium morters plus 1 Kalonian Hydra

I played Kalonian Hydra for a while, he never showed up at the right time. And when he did, he was always killed. Whether by Mortars or Helix, or he was forced to block and died anyway. Plus, that's going heavier on the 5-drops, and I'd rather be heavier on 4s.

As for Mizzium Mortars , I've already got 4 between main and board, and decreasing the creature count is lowered, making Domri less effective.

Nice deck +1 from me maybe you could help me a bit by checking out my deck and letting me know what you think Burning Trees Gets Me Hydra Thanks

Also I see a lot of pros and you as well running Shock in the side board can you explain to me why. Magma Jet may be a better choice for the scry for Domri Rade let me know what you think.

Kamotz says... #14

The extra 1 mana turns me off of Magma Jet . I don't really need the burn to scry through my deck. I'd rather it just be cheap and get rid of things like an early Pack Rat, Ash Zealot, Burning-Tree Emissary, Fanatic of Mogis, Chandra's Phoenix, etc...and leave me with 1 extra mana to tap for say...Scavenging Ooze, or Mutavault, or something to cast.

This deck is fantastic! I Playtested against it a few times and I think I went 1-4. It's a great build and meshes really well. Keep it up!

I've said it before, I'll say it again. BTE does next to nothing in this deck. This isn't the devotion deck. This is pure RG monsters. There's no place here for a 2 drop like her.

January 27, 2014 9:03 p.m.

Ha they spam BTE on my G/R Monster deck too... gets old.

Looks like a solid build and performance at the Open. I personally feel Kalonian Hydra to be lackluster and you would probably benefit by replacing them with another Stormbreath Dragon and Garruk, Caller of Beasts or more Scavenging Ooze and Fanatic of Xenagos . PW's really help in the match ups vs control and MBD.

Kalonian Hydra wins me more games than not. Most of my wins vs MBD came from the Hydra, since it's one of the few things that Desecration Demon can't block profitably.

I played Courser of Kruphix in the pre-release, and, while I think it's a good card, I don't think it's great in this deck.

You're running 23 lands, slightly low (I run even lower at 22 with Gruul) so the effect basically just lets them know your entire hand for the duration of the match and is then easier to counter. You're playing fewer lands since you're ramping and therefore the +1 health is irrelevant (plus, who cares about health when playing Gruul?)

I would -4 Courser of Kruphix , +2 Kalonian Tusker and +2 Boon Satyr . You don't lose any of your devotion that way and both cards are just better in this deck.
