Might i suggest doubling season for this deck

dreas94: I would add Doubling Season over Primal Vigor any day. The problem is that I only have one, and it's in my Cat tokens deck (which has Mirri, Weatherlight Duelist at the helm). Otherwise, it would be in here. Thank you for the upvote.

I would still put it in. I commonly transfer cards between decks so it should not be a big problem.

dreas94: After some thought, I'll remove it from Mirri and add it here. She doesn't need it so much (She already has the likes of Second Harvest and both Parallel Lives variants).

And doing that whole transfer thing bothers me. I lose track if I do. Doesn't help that there;s so may cards that want to go in. I can make lists, but time is not on my side these days.

When I saw the commander, I was skeptical for a bit there, but golly, let's get started:

This deck surprises more and more the longer I look at it. You may have something here. All these kicker spells are pretty solid. You draw them early, you get a decent effect but don't kick it. Then late game your deck doubles in power!

You are missing a few key cards like Krosan Grip, which can't be countered, and Beast Within. You might actually like Strionic Resonator as well to get her trigger going twice.

I also recommend some more non-basic lands. Boseiju, Who Shelters All, and Arcane Lighthouse for starters. Mirrorpool for that big end game kicker spell or even just to double your ramp.

I'm actually really surprised at the potential in this deck. Upvoted! <3

luffington: That's the beauty of kicker cards. They provide a lot of utility that you can find in other EDH staples. The deck's almost like a "Goodstuff deck with outside-the-box choices" in that respect.

I was missing a few ways to deal with enchantments, and I didn't consider Strionic Resonator. What tech.

I suppose I can cut a mountain and a forest. Of the three, I'd pick Mirrorpool and maybe Boseiju, Who Shelters All.

For the nonland cards, do you have suggestions for any cuts?

Oh, and thanks for the Upvote (though I believe you didn't click the button).

Might I suggest another amazing artifact panharmonicon. It only goes off on your creatures and artifacts but holy hell does it help

dreas94: I haven't considered Panharmonicon. It doesn't work with Hallar unfortunately, but there are about a dozen cards that work with it. I'd be concerned about whether it's worth adding for the sake of a dozen. But I'll test it regardless. Thanks for the suggestion.

I mean Hallars ability counts as a triggered ability right?

Id also like to suggest Cloudstone curio. It might require a few more creatures but it makes it possible for you to retrigger kicker by replaying permanent with kicker

Phaetion says... #11

dreas94: If you meant Hallar's ability, it's a cast trigger, not an ETB/CIP trigger. There would be much fewer instants and sorceries otherwise. Nice tech on the Curio. I'll find a way to add it.

Grafted Exoskeleton?

Scrubadubdub: It's a great suggestion for Hallar, but I'm not fond of infect, so I chose to avoid it. However, I recommend it for those who want to use the mechanic when building Hallar.

Consider Helm of the Host aswell, the chanse of getting 2 or 3 hallars on the battlefield so good

dreas94: I've added it in there. Thanks.

I do not get the copy effects tbh. You won't trigger Hallar with them afterall

April 16, 2018 2:55 a.m.

Phaetion says... #17

dreas94: They're more for utility rather than the theme. I've been cutting back on them, but I need a few in there. Reiterate, Fork, and Dualcaster Mage would stay. But I can cut one of the others for the Imperial Recruiter that's sitting in the Maybeboard.

If copy a kicked spell does it trigger hallar twice? I read that it kinda would but im still confused?

706.6. When copying an object, the copy acquires the copiable values of the original object's characteristics and, for an object on the stack, choices made when casting or activating it (mode targets, the value of x, whether it was kicked, how it will affect multiple targets, and so on). The "copied values" are the values derived from the text printed on the object (that text being name, mana cost, card type, subtype, supertype, expansion symbol, rules text, power, toughness, and/or loyalty), as modified by other copy effects, by "as...enters the battlefield" and "as...is turned face up" abilities that set characteristics, and by abilities that caused the object to be face down. Other effects (including type-changing and text changing effects), status, and counters are not copied.

nzlkingprawn:

Here's how it would work:

  1. Play any kicker spell, say Primal Growth, and sac a token for the kicker cost. It and a Hallar (and she has 0 counters, say) trigger goes on the stack.

  2. With Strionic Resonator out, you pay it, targeting Hallar. Hallar would deal 1 damage after getting its counter.

  3. Then, the original Hallar trigger resolves, and it gets another counter, dealing 2 this time for a total of 3 (from both triggers).

Yea I understand Strionic resonator. I'm meaning if you copy a kicker spell. Will that trigger hallar twice? Because the rules state that "Whether it was kicked" arries over to the copied spell.

nzlkingprawn: Ah. I misread the comment. My apologies.

No, it would not trigger Hallar. However, it still provides some utility in that it can be whatever you want it to be (a counterspell or another ramp spell), so it makes up for not being able to trigger her.

Have you considered Jaya Ballard at all? I'm putting her in my hallar deck, ramps like crazy, draws like crazy and also can act as a snapcaster mage.

nzlkingprawn:

I love Jaya Ballard, but she wouldn't exactly fit here. I'd put her in a true spellslinging list. Neheb, the Eternal could use her.

I'm gonna suggest the new card broken bond. To wreck something important and play a extra land seems nice
