Sorcery (1)

This deck is a prototype with a changing decklist. Constructive criticism, critique, and review are all welcome.

Purpose

To create that army of deathtouch snakes you've always dreaming of, while making sure your opponents have nothing to defend themselves with. Go forth and conquer!

Central Theme

The general theme of the deck is centered around Hapatra's second ability (to create a 1/1 deathtouch snake each and every time a -1/-1 counter gets placed on a creature). This ability to a two-for-one, causing your opponents' creatures to die (even the indestructible ones) and giving yourself a threatening army that would make Indiana Jones run for the hills.

I haven't included a super high cost cards, as I do plan on building the deck.

Main Combos

The most basic of the combos in this deck is: Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons + Blowfly Infestation + at least 2 snake tokens. By placing a -1/-1 counter on a snake, you cause it to die. As it enters the graveyard (before fizzling) you create another snake. This combo doesn't create anything by itself, other than infinite triggers, but it does set up for some crazy combos with these cards:

The other infinite combo in the deck consists of Devoted Druid + Quillspike. This by itself creates infinite power on a single creature, but when coupled with Hapatra also creates infinite 1/1 snakes.

Other Synergies

Most of the other cards in this deck also play off of Hapatra, but don't create infinite combos (I'm not a huge fan of them, but the infinite combos in this deck are two inexpensive and cool to pass up. Below I have listed just a few of the powerful synergies and combos in the deck:

  • Vhati il-Dal gives any of your token snakes the ability to kill indestructible creatures, which is awesome

  • Viridian Longbow attached to a snake gives you the ability to cast Murder every turn, which is also awesome

  • Any of the proliferate spell / permanents (Contagion Engine, Contagion Clasp, Grim Affliction, etc.) can potentially give you a ton of snakes all at once

  • Creatures with Wither and Infect deal damage in -1/-1 counters, which creates snakes

  • Board wipes such as Black Sun's Zenith create snakes in addition to their effects, which is super cool (even if you end up killing Hapatra, since you can cast her again

Weaknesses

  • Most of the combos and synergies in this deck revolve around Hapatra. If you can't protect her, you're gonna have a hard time. I may have to add more tutors and equipments to that effect once I've playtested the deck more

  • The deck relies on lots of small creatures to damage your opponent's life total, which means they are very prone to dying via Golgari Charm effects

  • The only way to deal with flying is through removal, which there is a decent amount of via -1/-1 counters, but many fliers have devastating effects

Additional Notes

06/07 - Maelstrom Pulse is in the sideboard because of my own play group meta. A particular person runs both Relentless Rats and Shadowborn Apostles

06/07 - As I play this deck more and more, the decklist will change, and the description above may be inaccurate. Please help me out by letting me know.
