Kind of a prison deck featuring
Smothering Tithe
to help me cast heavy finishers like
Finale of Glory
. It works pretty well on Arena, aggro decks like mono red or green elves often take massive and unexpected beatings. It is another story against blue control, I must admit...
I'm not really going for my opponent's lifepoints here, not at first. I'm looking for a win by submission.
Take everything they have, make them pay for drawing cards, keep the money safe to make your artefact creatures bigger, and cast the redoutable
Finale of Glory
to close the debate. To achieve that, you must force them into the late game and survive until you can eventually take total control of it.
I played games with 2/3
Smothering Tithe
on board, guys this is insane. Play
Karn, the Great Creator
, find
God-Pharaoh's Statue
and play it, cast and/or exile some stuff, draw a card or two and still keep 4 untapped lands for
Settle the Wreckage
... This feels like power.
Thaumatic Compass
wins half of the games by itself. With it in your opening hand you will never miss a land, build a solid mana base, and in the long game it will just stop anything attacking you. I mean whatever survived the repeated
Cleansing Nova
s of course.
The sideboard is filled with useful artefacts for Karn just to pick up. Like a toolbox.
Obviously a fun deck to play against mono red aggro and everything that goes right to your face, and there is plenty of them on Arena... I just let them empty their hand, calmly, while I clear the board and play harmless artefacts, then come the taxes, Karn, etc.
Fountain of Renewal
helps a lot as a single lifepoint can sometimes make the difference.
Any advice welcomed, I'm new to artefacts, Karn and even the standard format, so I might forget some key cards here. I want more ways to tax my opponent but there isn't many options I guess, so any suggestion...
Baird, Steward of Argive
looks great, but I'd like to avoid creatures to stay untouchable. I'm also thinking about mainboarding
Teyo, the Shieldmage
for even more protection.
