Harness the Maelstrom~ Yidris EDH

Commander / EDH Cascade Storm UBRG

Yidris, Maelstrom Wielderfoil is certainly a blast to play, with a lot of flexibility in how you actually build the deck. Voltron, Creatureless, Combo or just pure randomness. You name it!

The general layout I'm aiming for is a lot of good-stuff with a few strong synergy cards to the ogre himself. Both in order to bring some consistency to the deck while playing with or without Cascade on your cards and to allow it a wide variety of threats and answers for different situations. Also, ensuring that every game will be more varied and unique. Or at least have the potential to be.

The goal though, or rather the dream, of this deck is to set up huge Cascade chains in single turns.

Here's a little breakdown of the deck:

Let's start with the cards that's going to make our little ogre the most fantastic thing ever to have happened to an EDH game!

Because doing damage more times in a single turn means stacking more Cascade triggers onto our cards for that turn.

Because doing damage more times in a single.. You get the point.

Should you have cards to spare before the final explosion when you're done hitting people in the face in order to rack up all those Cascade triggers, feel free to cast them in between combat phases.

Okay, now we have our multiple Cascade triggers all set-up and everything is hunky dory. But what is one single spell with multiple Cascade triggers in comparison to several spells with multiple Cascade triggers? Boring, that's what. Play these spells! Untap your lands! Play more spells!

So, our little baby ogre is whipping up an absolute shitstorm for our enemies and you're drowning in all the value that's being generated, great. But how do we take that one step further? Cascade casts spells, which is important for these little doohickeys.

No need to wait for the next turn to cash in on all that value you've gained, you don't even have to use it if one of these is on the field. By merely casting all those cards you're not just potentially closer to victory, you're tangibly closer! As a side note, 10 triggers in a row from Aetherflux Reservoir will gain you 55 hp, which is enough to kill one player with it most of the time.

Nothing says Storm more than 10+ spells cast in a single turn. Mind's Desire is especially bonkers with the 2 cards mentioned above.

Sometimes, you wish that you knew what was directly on top of your deck so that you don't have to Cascade right past a really good card.

These lets you, and everyone else, know what's up. They'll also let you play lands from the top, which is a nice bonus.

If you're not into just randomly casting lots of spells from your deck (how could you not be?!) and want to plan for the current situation to actually try to win, then this bit is for you.

Don't like something that's on the top of your deck? Don't even know what's hiding up there? Draw the cards that you want to draw and put the rest back in the order most suited for Cascading!

Something awesome in your hand? Put it on the top and Cascade!

Something awesome in your deck? Put it on the top and Cascade!

Really need to remove something from the top? Then these can be used as honorary manipulators.

Roll a die and hope for the best!

What more can be done when you're able to manipulate the top or just know what's going on up there?

More Cascading of course! Or, you know, abuse the other two. Possibility Storm goes exceptionally crazy. Switch things around on the top in order to get your expensive cards by casting your cheap ones!

Just a few things to keep in mind while navigating the deck.

This lets you utilise your mana during that awkward moment after resolving Yidris, Maelstrom Wielderfoil's triggers but before resolving triggers from Nature's Will or Sword of Feast and Famine, instead of having to wait until the next main step. Also works great in before Scourge of the Throne's extra combat phase since that one doesn't give you an additional main step.

Casting spells through things like Undaunted, Evoke or Delve doesn't change the CMC that Cascade is looking at. Delving a Treasure Cruise for could potentially net you a Balefire Dragon!

Cascading into cards with no cost actually just lets you cast them, no need to wait for that Suspend.

These makes hasting out Yidris, Maelstrom Wielderfoil viable without having a ton of mana available.

While she won't directly manipulate what you're going to Cascade into, she does much else. With Mirri's Guile or similar effects you can put a card on the top in order to Scry it to the bottom, the card you want to draw second and the card you want to Cascade into third. With Scroll Rack and similar effects you'll be able to get rid of dead cards without the need for a shuffle effect. On top of that, she's also an indestructible permanent who can make things unblockable which is just great in general.
