I suppose there's a fair amount of mental gymnastics involved, but I've really tried to fit almost every card into the flavor of the books.

Let me respond to your generous comments on my deck by saying this is amazing and beautiful! I love Dune and think it is one of the greatest, if not the greatest, stories of all time. I have been considering building a deck with Hazezon for this exact same purpose for a long time. If you're interested in more flavor of Dune in the deck it would be cool to run a Desert, and two of the vehicles from the Kaladesh and Aether Revolt sets, Skysovereign, Consul Flagship and Heart of Kirran (which isn't in the database yet) as they remind me of the ships from the books and movies. Also, you have no wurms! And you're in Wurm colors! Idk how flavorful you want to be or if you're even looking for suggestions. The deck is pretty fantastic already. Well done. Too bad you don't have blue from Grand Arbiter Augustin IV to be the Baron Harkonen.

EternalBrewmaster, cutting Desert from this list was one of the most painful Magic moments I've ever had, ha ha.

All of your suggestions hit the flavor of Dune right on the nose. No kidding on the Grand Arbiter Harkonen! One benefit of Dune's incredible scope is a huge palette to paint from in this kind of endeavor! Unfortunately, this is one of only two decks I own, so I have to balance the flavor (which I DO take seriously, as this deck is what got me into the game!) with the efficiency of the deck. Hazezon is powerful, but the strategy is limited. So much of it has to be devoted to "Terraforming Arrakis" (ramping) to keep up with the nasty Krenko deck this so often faces off against.

I definitely appreciate suggestions, for both theme and strategy. As I mentioned, I'm new to Magic and am missing the encyclopedic card knowledge of more experienced brewers. Perhaps I can keep a 15-card "flavorboard" sleeved up for when I'm sitting across the table from another Dune fan!

I love the idea of a flavorboard! That's genius because it allows you to throttle the deck up or down depending on who you're playing against. So my only suggestion wurm-wise then for flavor and main strategy reasons would be Ulvenwald Hydra which ironically isn't actually a wurm but it looks a lot like my memories of them from the movies and it get's your utility lands out. Furthermore, it has the flavor of being as powerful as the land itself. I feel like Blind Obedience would be some awesome flavor like what the Bene Gesserit require and also it would serve the double purpose of letting you drain your enemies of their water (life). haha the possibilities are endless but I'm so happy to be talking about them.

Oh man, that Hydra is super spicy! I'm looking for a spot, as I like that a lot.

I believe Blind Obedience has black color identity because of the extort cost? Too bad too, as cards so blatantly thematic (Treachery, etc.) are perfect for this deck.

Yeah I hope you can get the hydra in because it's perfect. Maybe cut Enlightened Tutor. Idk what that's specifically supposed to reference in the story but I'm not a huge fan of tutors personally. And extort doesn't actually affect the card's color identity for EDH as it is in reminder text for the ability and not actually in the rules text. It's a well known case that you can probably find any number of people concur on in a quick google search.

Oh man. Enlightened tutor is such a workhorse; that'd be a tough one to cut.

Obviously snatching up Sol Ring or Skullclamp on turn one is super clutch, but I also love grabbing Sad Robot, High Market, Courser, or Cursed Totem with her. I understand the aversion to tutors, but unfortunately no one in my playgroup shares that opinion...

As for the flavor, she's all Bene Gesserit to me. Although the Enlightened Tutor name also applies to Duncan Idaho, the Spice Agony, and Prescience in general.

Yeah I definitely get the flavor from it and if it's necessary for your mets then definitely keep it. I'll leave the choice to include the hydra and cut to you then. I wish you could add Chaos Moon too just because it looks like Dune sort of.

Yeah I'm slotting it into my Kiki-Jiki deck because Kiki can easily control the number of permanents in play by making tokens. Elixir of Immortality would be a cool facsimile for the Water of Life too!

Trying to squeeze in Tooth and Nail and Hull Breach. Might be time to lose Trading Post? I hate my life. Help me, internet!

Trading Post is too much flavor and too useful to cut IMO. Why play Heroic Intervention? I can see cutting that for Hull Breach. Martyr's Bond underwhelms me typically, so that seems like the best cut for T&N.

Heroic Intervention is sort of a "things aren't going well" card. I put it in to replace the slightly clumsier and totally-unflavorful Dauntless Escort. Sometimes you gotta cast Hazezon without the Sac Outlet, ya know? Hull breach is going in the Flavorboard, ha ha.

What would Dune be without any Desert and its Worldspine Wurms?

If you want to do a full Dune themed deck, I think the Time Spiral/Planar Chaos block is what you need: Desert, sand warriors, wurms and futuristic artifacts everywhere. ;)

Haha yeah, VietMoneys and I have discussed both those cards before. Like I said on my deck, at some point you have to sacrifice flavor for playability. Also, he gets the wurms from Garruk's ultimate in this deck.

[edit myself] Holy shit though, you're right, like every card in planar chaos is perfectly on-point for Dune flavor. Dust Elemental and Magus of the Tabernacle, it's like he's wearing a freaking stillsuit!

Indeed, I am limited by my efforts to keep this deck reasonably competitive, but I'm going to at least include a few of these in the "Flavorboard", a sideboard kept with my tokens for nerfing the deck a bit and providing a full-value Dune experience!

EternalBrewmaster, it took me long enough, but I've slotted in Blind Obedience. Getting to pimp out my Gonti deck and experiment with cards there has given me some mental leeway to swing things back more in the direction of flavor. Magus of the Tabernacle is working really nicely as a mild control piece that can Sac himself and Hazezon the upkeep that the tokens drop. I also dropped Courser of Kruphix in favor of getting Top back in the mix, and added Elspeth. Her less popular art is actually super on point with the Dune flavor and matches my new playmat nicely. Now to decide if the new Lovisa art should make the cut!
