kamarupa, Balaam__. My secondary submission in the EDH category, I'll be sure to work on the Legacy/etc. build tomorrow. Cheers!

I don't have the time to review this tonight, but I'll try to take a close look at it tomorrow! And I've made some progress on my brew, too!

@Andramalech hmm…the latest iteration leaves me scratching my head alright, but not necessarily in a good way. I figure since I have zero experience in the format (and my technical expertise in other formats is…questionable, at best) I’m probably missing something, so feel free to spell it out for me. I should probably have posted this to my profile page instead where I could easily delete it post-reply to hide my shame. Anyway, if I’m way off and there’s some high level technical brilliance at work here, feel free to let me have it with both barrels.

Right, so first things first. I love Reanimator. It’s my favorite archetype, far and away, so that immediately caught my attention. That said, I have concerns. Some (and by some, I mean a large number) of your creatures don’t actually have any ETB triggers that feed into your commander’s ability. Elder Brain, Ulvenwald Captive,  Flip Wharf Infiltrator etc etc etc don’t do anything in tandem with the commander (Hunted Horror actually works against you). Same goes for many of the other non-creature permanents, like Crawling Infestation, Mirri’s Guile, Sylvan Library etc etc.

It’s not like there are no contenders that work with Yarok but there are far, far fewer than I would have expected. Perhaps there is a synergy or design motif I’m missing? I’m not sure. In any case, if the body of creatures function well together, separate and apart from the commander’s inherent trait, then all well and good. It’s possible I’m just naïve and assume that EDH builds always want the commander for the commander’s actual ability, when that’s not entirely true.

Secondly, and this may once again betray how little I know of EDH, but I was looking at your commander’s color identity (I hate that term, it sounds so ‘woke’) and by extension your chosen lands and spell pips and whoa boy—a single Blood Moon would be catastrophic. Cyclonic Rift could ‘take care of it’, by which I mean it would bounce it to be replayed the very next turn, and I only saw maybe one or two other ways to deal with any blood moon type effect. Does it see play in commander?

These are preliminary thoughts from someone with no EDH experience, so take them with an ocean’s worth of salt. I do like the deck in principle, but I think there’s work to be done.

Balaam__ I was reliant on this type of feedback sure, but this is alas, a first draft with tomorrow on the horizon- I'll revisit this for sure and answer all questions more in depth tomorrow. I apologize for not having more in depth analysis available right now.

Balaam__ I mistakenly ommitted some important information last night- I was definitely bordering on falling asleep as I saved this initial first draft and it was nowhere near ready for inpsection, mostly just a collective sounding board / mood board to help me track where I wanted to go.

I admit, it was ugly when I got to it this morning. And in terms of your response about how Blood Moon could screw me up pretty good, I agree- it's a super niche type of thing that could happen, and up against creature-light and creatureless decks this deck would struggle pretty hard. In terms of removal, spot removal, I have next to none. In fact.. when I comb back over what I did AFTER I made my edits, I still think it was removal light for my tastes, especially. And by removal? I mean there's like..

..none. However! We lean super heavy into the "yeah? Well, I'm just gonna Reanimate that." Plus, when we're absolutely stacking coupons for maximum value on ETB triggers, losing a few pieces along the way didn't bother me as bad. This is admittedly a bit more of a casual list, that could reduce a few loose slots for spot-removal, but overall I'm happy with it's construction and ability to follow the formula.

Ah my bad, I thought it was a mostly complete iteration. I wouldn’t have ‘I have no EDH expertise but I must scream’ if I had known it wasn’t finalized.

Balaam__ the "take this with an ocean of salt" really got caught up in my throat and had me chuckling.

Incidentally, I was thinking about the deck for a while after I posted my initial thoughts and I realized there’s a far more grievous threat you’ll face—it isn’t Blood Moon, it’s something like Rest in Peace. Anything that immediately exiles cards sent to the graveyard is devastating to the core loop and something it would probably not be possible to come back from. You’d need multiple answers in the form of removal or else something to counteract that state action.

You are really right about that, however I see nothing left to chip from the mainboard other than less efficient Horrors. And Balaam__ the margin is increasingly smaller. I theorize no more than 3-4 slots for removal. I'm gonna aim for something in the lower curve, maybe Nature's Claim makes an appearance here.

That should cover most of the usual graveyard hate. Tormod's Crypt, Rest in Peace, Relic of Progenitus and Grafdigger's Cage all fall under that umbrella of removal. You’re going to have to watch out for the subtle graveyard hate, the kind attached to creatures as some sort of activated ability or tertiary effect. Those can fall outside the jurisdiction of simple artifact/enchantment hate.

and to those I say good luck sticking around after I resolve a Saw in Half on either a Ravenous Chupacabra or a Slum Reaper. I intend on being oppressive about my sacrifice specifically tied creatures.

At first glance, I like this brew more than the first. It seems a lot more streamlined, and has a better mana curve. That said, it's been a long day already, and after working on my own brew, I don't have the mental fortitude yet to read through each spell you've got here. My head is just swimming right now in spell text lol. I will get to it soon, though!

Should anyone wish to be a judge, I'll leave this link to my brew here for their convenience. Darkest Heart Challenge - Horror Tribal

I think maybe Assassin's Trophy and Abrupt Decay might be worth considering in addition to or in place of the artifact/enchantment removal. They're just more versatile and there's not a lot of direct creature removal.

Otherwise A+!
