@CrovaxTheCursed Its not that my deck is built better, just that mine digs through the deck for the last combo pieces faster. Yours is able to survive if Heartless Summoning was removed from the deck, but my deck tends to royally fail if hit with a Slaughter Games or a couple Thoughtseize's. Either way, thanks for the +1

Good point. I'd like to do a best of 11 match, mine versus yours, and see who comes out on top. :)

@CrovaxTheCursed I did some playtests. I'll give you the rundowns.
Game 1: You won the flip, won on turn 7 after digging for the final piece. I was missing my Altar of the Brood.
Game 2: I won on turn 5 after a double Myr Retriever. Your deck got out a Haruspex and Heartless Summoning, but the transmute was too slow to play the last peices
Game 3: I mulled to 5 and you won on Turn 3, opening hand had the summoning, Haruspex, and two retrievers
Game 4: You got your combo online, but then I realized that I had milled all of your Altar of the Broods. With no other way to win, you conceded after drawing most of your deck. (Three Myr Retrievers were in the grave, so recovering the Altar also meant that your combo stopped working)
Game 5: I won with Havengul Lich after killing your Grim Haruspex. Both of us got Summoning and Altars on the field
Game 6: I won with the Lich on turn 3. You would have won the next turn, but I was able to combo first. I should also mention that you mulled to 5 this game.
Game 7: I won with the Lich. You had a great hand, but didn't draw into a Haruspex or the second retriever even after two Taigam's Scheming.
Overall, your deck was pretty solid, but mine was faster. Assuming we both had a Heartless Summoning in our starting hands, I would typically win. You had a lot more creatures though, so once you got Heartless Summoning and Grim Haruspex out then you always finished the combo. I might swap out a Gitaxian Probe or two for Necropede, it worked quite nicely for spot removal and killing your own Haruspex to ensure you didn't deck yourself. If you do playtest, please let me know for the results.

Wow that's excellent, man. I appreciate the stats. I will do my own runs and let you know how it goes too. Yeah the Necropede is such a boss mid-combo, there's not much they can do about it lol. I may swap my transmutes for more digging cards like Probe, Visions, Dig, Cruise, etc and see if it speeds mine up. I definitely am getting good inspiration from your build. Well done.

Hi,Myr Retriever says return ANOTHER target artifact from the graveyard so he can not return himself from the graveyard rigth? In this case the perfect world 1 wouldn t be a perfect world. Not sure so.

CrovaxTheCursed says... #7
It says return another Aritifact CARD. Technically a second copy of retriever is another CARD, so yes it does work. One Retriever can retrieve another copy of Retriever, but cannot return himself as he goes there. So you do need two copies of him to infinitely retrieve.

@Teilzeitheld Crovax has it exactly right. Since the wording is "another target artifact card", you can target a second Myr Retriever that is currently in your graveyard and return it to your hand. It does work, and it is the easiest way to win with this deck.

I mean you could exploit Grand Architect+Treasure Mage+Heartless Summoning for t3 Wurmcoil Engine, works with Grand Architect+Laboratory Maniac or Spellskite+ in had Wurmcoil Engine + Heartless Summoning too.
Also you should add fetches they works with Altar of the Brood, Bitter Ordeal, and Dig Through Time, and they aren't horribly expensive because of KtK
November 20, 2014 5:44 p.m.
I mean you could just run 4xWatery Grave 2xSwamp 2xIsland and 12 fetches, in the rare situation we cannot get land number 7 because we have 2xswamps 4xWatery Grave in play and a black/red fetch I think we have bigger problems

@XyZiron I would rather not add in Grand Architect and Treasure Mage, they aren't really a part of the combo and don't really benefit the deck enough.
Wurmcoil Engine is one that I will add once I get more money. I can T3 him with a Heartless Summoning and Myr Moonvessel.
Similarly, I will add in more fetches once I get the money for them. The Drowned Catacombs are just cheap placeholders until I can justify spending the money on them.
November 20, 2014 6:07 p.m.
you could add Trinket Mage to find Altar of the Brood and Myr Moonvessel for only U with heartless
November 21, 2014 11:14 a.m.
It could also find sideboard spellbombs and if you add the, Pithing Needles

@XyZiron The nice thing is that I will never need to find Altar of the Brood or Myr Moonvessel if I have a Heartless Summoning out, since it will allow me to draw my deck using Grim Haruspex or Dig Through Time to find whatever piece I can to get the combo going. The only cards that I would typically sideboard are Laboratory Maniac and Gitaxian Probe, but both of these are more valuable than Trinket Mage
You are correct though for sideboarding, I might actually try out swapping a Nihil Spellbomb and a Shriekmaw for a Trinket Mage and a Pithing Needle. Thanks for the comments!

Someone has to be 'heartless' to make this deck.
Puns aside, this deck is mean and interesting. Might be good enough for tier 2 decks.

@xsilverwarrior7 I would love to see it become more popular. There are better combo decks, but Heartless Summoning is very resilient. It can't be stopped by most sideboard hate cards, only Rule of Law and Tear are good ways to shut down the deck. I expect it to perform pretty well, and even more so if Jeskai Ascendancy gets banned

Nicely well-rounded. I'm not wholly familiar with the meta for Modern (or any other format) but I'm figuring this deck is designed to work against the meta decks.

Extirpate destroys this deck what can we do with the sideboard against this card?I am planning on using this deck and I know for sure some people has this card on their sideboard.

@acarmelo1 There really isn't a good answer for that. Very few cards other than morphs (Kheru Spellsnatcher) can deal with split second. I would increase the copies of Inquisition of Kozilek to catch it before it is a problem.
You could also use Chalice of the Void, but that would kill off all of our cantrips and our primary win condition Altar of the Brood
December 3, 2014 10:55 a.m.
Wouldn't Blood Artist be better than Grim Haruspex in this deck since it's another potential win con?
December 23, 2014 6:44 p.m.
Wait nevermind, I see. It dies to Heartless Summoning. Do you find yourself having trouble drawing a Heartless Summoning in most games or do you get it reliably?
December 23, 2014 6:45 p.m.
lemmingllama says... #23
@vishnarg I really wish that Blood Artist and Disciple of the Vault worked here. Sadly it doesn't.
Heartless Summoning is normally fairly easy to find, we can mulligan to find a copy from the beginning, plus the copies of Serum Visions, Dig Through Time, and Mulldrifter are normally enough to find a copy or two. I sometimes have a worse time of it after game 1, since I normally side out the Gitaxian Probes for other cards. Still, its normally enough that I can find it and combo off.

@ALX Junk Diver isn't legal in Modern, only in Legacy. Also it sadly wouldn't work since it would need to cost 2 or less, otherwise I would have to pay mana every time I play it and I couldn't infinite combo.
CrovaxTheCursed says... #1
This is really awesome. I have a similar deck that abuses the combo, but yours is much more well thought out and better built. I never noticed the Lich combo with Moonvessel, that is sweet. I actually have a Lich, so I may incorperate that into my build. +1 for sure. Here's my deck is you care to peek at it for ideas: Heartless Storm. The Transmute cards have made the combo more consistent since I can tutor for Retriever, Summoning, and Haruspex.
