If your Walking Ballista gets countered or removed. Sunmare would be able to be protected with Mother of Runes type of effects, that could be a alternate way to win. You are right though, the deck is fine as is. I just think Crested Sunmare would be a good backup. It would work really well since you could gain life on their turns to.

Cut Hero of Bladehold and Brimaz, King of Oreskos for Serra's Sanctum or a Plains and Crested Sunmare

This is a cool deck! Have a +1. I've been trying to build a similar deck as well, so here's some suggestions/food for thought, although I don't know where you would put these because your deck is already built well.
-
Darien, King of Kjeldor - Even though he is 6 cmc, if you have him out with a soul sister or similar card you essentially take no damage (or gain life) from attacks, etc. and make lots of tokens. Pairs well with cards like Ancient Tomb .
-
Pariah - More of a gimmick, but put this on Heliod (indestructible) and you can't take damage.
-
Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite - She's just good.
-
Phyrexian Rebirth - If you really need to wipe the board, this leaves you with something afterwards.
-
Dusk / Dawn - Similar to Phyrexian Rebirth, it doesn't destroy your soul sisters, etc. in the first place. Also, if the soul sisters have died, you can return them to your hand with this.

Cathars' Crusade can also get out of hand very quickly, and Winds of Abandon is a one sided board wipe which lets you easily swing for lethal if you haven't set up the Walking Ballista combo or if you opponents managed to stop it.

Great list, I was about to sit down and make my own Heliod deck. I think Academy Rector would be a good addition with your enchantments. For some sac outlets you could try High Market and Miren, the Moaning Well , which also has great synergy with the life gain. They also work well with Crested Sunmare if you go that route to get life gain on the opponents' turns.

I have a heliod build as well might I suggest triskelion as redundency for balista
January 10, 2020 6:46 p.m.
I am very aware of triskelion's existence but it's too much mana in my opinion.

Got it, ballista can definitely be cheaper than trisky

I'm curious as to why you don't run Ajani's Pridemate Obviously it's kind of a joke of a card in EDH but with cards like Linden, the Steadfast Queen it can do some big punches
January 14, 2020 1:56 p.m.
Pridemate is excluded mostly because Ajani can make more than one of them.

Glad to see you took the advice and added Crested Sunmare . An army of horses/ with Gift of Immortality makes it extra spicy. Definitely one of the coolest mono color decks that I have seen. Wish I could upvote more than once

Thank you! Yeah after removing and redoing some things I realized I could slot in the Sunmare without too much hassle. I have been able to turn elspeth's +1 into make 3 4/4 soldier tokens and an indestructible 8/8 and end step with my life gain triggers.

Awesome looking deck, definitely going to make a Heliod Sun Crowned Deck myself. Quick question though, how did you use the alternative art for Heliod? I only get his theros beyond death option.

If you are adding a card with multiple variations to your deck then when you select the set a new box will appear on the bottom left of the panel.

This new Idyllic Tutor could up consistency a bit. Also Unbreakable Formation can help with wipes.
Edit. Oh yeah Archon of Absolution is a worse Windborn Muse

I have considered both. I have an older copy of Idyllic tutor from morningtide but I just don't know what to take out for it

Not sure if someone's already mentioned it since I don't see it, but Karn, the Great Creator has an interesting combo with Heliod and Aetherflux Reservoir. By turning it into a creature with Karn's +1, you can give it lifelink and then you can gun down the entire table since it deals the 50 damage itself. And the card isn't completely dead by itself (especially if your group doesn't allow wish boards) since it can recur your reservoir if it gets exiled and turn off your opponent's artifact.

I am aware of such a combo from seeing a Sidri player pull it off. But I probably wouldn't add it myself.

Spear of Heliod is a nice Enchantment/Artifact that fits the theme of the deck well. I imagine Heliod using a sun laser to zap creatures that attack you. It's also nice with lower power white creatures, and I think is reasonably priced for its ability.
May 3, 2020 9:23 p.m.
Spear was in the list at one point, however it ended up getting axed when i wanted to add some spicier tech. though I have been temped to re-add it since.

If board whipes are an issue, run whites only counter sell, Lapse of Certainty . It may give it back to them but it will at least stall so you can try to take them out
May 6, 2020 4:54 a.m.
White has more than lapse. But as much as I love mana tithe, white's counters are pretty trash sadly

So for a bit I had removed sunmare because I felt it wasn't doing too much but now that I have the soul sister package I should probably read it. But for what? I really like the list where it is at.
