I like this a lot. I would add a bit more control to the sideboard to protect you against certain matchups, like super fast aggro. Have a look at Celestial Flare .

I also built a deck a while ago like this. It is my main standard MTG deck. Have a look if you want!

Great job, always love mono-white. +1

Thanks for the feedback! What should take out of my sideboard for the celestial flare?

This is a tough decision, no getting around it. Nonetheless, in my opinion, you should remove:

1x Fiendslayer Paladin 1x Rootborn Defenses 2x Banisher Priest

Then add 4x Celestial Flare .

My reasons are the following. Fiendslayer Paladin is incredibly tough to remove since he cannot be burned with most red spells (Anger of the Gods and Mizzium Mortars being exceptions) or killed via most black destroy or lethality (-X/-X stuff) effects. He's a great creature and I think two of him will get you over the hump in most B/R matchups.

I totally agree with you having Rootborn Defenses . It is your anti-board sweep card, since it effectively counters Supreme Verdict , Planar Cleansing , and Fated Retribution . I think two is plenty. It costs three mana, which is on the high end of this deck's curve, and outside of having your Elspeth, Sun's Champion on the board, the populate will not help you. Still a great card for mono-white against all the control out there right now.

Banisher Priest is very good. She gives you targeted removal, which is very valuable to white, and gives you a tough blocker to boot. Unfortunately, she is on the higher end of your curve, and will be the target for all your opponent's removal as soon as she hits the board (they will want their creature back!). I think two of her is plenty because you will want to specifically target things. However, if she's removed by your opponent, you have to deal with whatever she exiled again.

For this reason, I find Celestial Flare superior because it gets through hexproof and shroud, and the removal it creates is fairly permanent. It is easy to cast, and your opponent usually doesn't see it coming. You can even use multiples if you really want to make certain a specific creature gets sacrificed. It is an early tool that gives you respite when a fast aggro opponent is overrunning you.

Of course, you'll have to find what is best for you. This is simply my take on the sideboard situation.

That was quite a compelling argument. I think you have convinced me. Thanks!

I find the Gift of Orzhova to be really, really solid in this deck. keep up the good work! +1

Thanks! I think so, too. It gives flying to something like Fabled Hero to make it swing for 8 in the air with lifelink by turn four (assuming no other enchantments). It's a beast!

Nice looking deck but unfortunately the meta right now has too much removal. Try playing Naya hexproof, much better with having hexproof guys. But good budget deck +1

Naya hexproof is definitely good, but Boros has good countermeasures against removal too, which makes it totally viable in this removal-heavy meta. Gods Willing , Brave the Elements , Boros Charm , and Rootborn Defenses will all handle removal extremely well, and Boros has access to all of them. I've played my Boros aggro-Voltron at FNM against a variety of strong archetypes, many with removal (mono-black devotion, for instance). I run 4x Boros Charm , 4x Gods Willing , and 4x Brave the Elements . It got me through most forms of removal just fine; the only things those spells don't handle are force-sac effects like Devour Flesh and Agent of the Fates , and -X/-X effects, like Bile Blight . But those are rarer in the meta, in my experience, than Doom Blade and Hero's Downfall . I've come in first twice with the deck in a control/removal-heavy environment. It's all a matter of boarding the right cards.

I agree with that. In a removal heavy matchup, I would definitely add in my rootborn defenses. I mainboarded the Boros charms for their versatility and ability to combat removal spells. In my local meta, mono black and esper are popular. I agree the sac thing is a problem and I'll main board the gods willing if what's in there right now can't handle the removal. Voltron FTW! Thanks for your comments and suggestions you all! They really help!

Haha, also, since when is $169 a budget deck? I think we are working on a different budget D2r2b. :p
