What about Vorel of the Hull Clade ? I know there are no ETB effects, but you have a lot of other stuff with counters.

The only thing I really have with counters is Vigean Graftmage At least that's all that Vorel would synergize with.Khalni Heart Expedition too. I'm not sure it's strong enough to put in theme-ways with the deck.

Gyre Sage and Prime Speaker Zegana , also. I think you're right, come to think of it. The few I looked at had counters, but upon spending the time to look through them all I notice that it wouldn't bring a whole lot of benefit.

Gyre Sage would be helpful, but Prime Speaker Zegana i'll be flickering a lot for draw. I appreciate your input though :)

I would have to say that my favorite card to exile with the commanders ability would have to be Medomai the Ageless because if they have no fliers then they lose. You can just keep blinking him taking another turn. Awesome deck sad to see Sylvan Primordial gone, but it was probably for good reason.

Medomai the Ageless needs to deal combat damage, not just ETB. But it's still such a boss card :)

Dorkstinn says... #11

Ya that's what I was saying. If the opponent has no fliers he can attack and deal damage and then you blink him. Then he comes back at the end step and you take another turn and attack with him again. And blink him again, and take another turn. Endless turns!

February 6, 2014 2:27 p.m.

Schmidty says... #12

Pretty sure that his "cannot attack again" would be a state based effect already on the field, so even if i blink him, he cannot attack that second turn, even though he has left. I honestly don't know, I'll have to look up that ruling. It seems SOOOO strong if that's the case.

February 6, 2014 3:17 p.m.

Schmidty says... #13

It says he can't attack during extra turns, and as it's an extra turn, with him there or not, he shouldn't be able to attack.

Dorkstinn says... #14

Ahh okay I took his ability more like Aurelia, the Warleader s ability. Well thank you and that actually has use to me because while at FNM someone had blinked the sphinx and attacked again to have 3 turns. So thank you for the clarification.

February 6, 2014 3:30 p.m.

Schmidty says... #15

Yeah, well with Aurelia, the Warleader you can attack once, then untap, attack again and attack with Medomai the 2nd time but not the first, and take an extra turn. that gives you 4 combat phases which is nice. Obviously you'd need red in a commander as well though for that.

I've been fiddling with roon myself and he can do some awful things, even to your opponents creatures. With Sundial of the Infinite you can permanently exile creatures on your turn, or Riftsweeper can tuck things you've flickered.

February 7, 2014 3:12 a.m.

Schmidty says... #17

It is a nice combo, and even against a suspend deck, Riftsweeper would be nice to have. I'll take a look, but I'm not sure if I want to switch out two cards just yet.

Although i don't know Your play group, i think You lack some heavy mass removal, like Supreme Verdict or at least Day of Judgment . Few pointed ones also wouldn't hurt, i think like Swords to Plowshares , Path to Exile , Pongify , Rapid Hybridization ..

You may also like terrastodon

Terastodon , but i see You have it in Your maybe.

Proteus Staff is a fun option, it's an artifact that does everything fun. Also, there's a decent argument for Chancellor of the Spires over Diluvian Primordial . Because it doesn't exile it's target, they have one card in there graveyard that can net you an extra turn and you can combo out.

Proteus Staff is interesting, and I've encouraged my friend before to put it into his zedruu deck. But for mine, I'd rather stick with the flicker creature theme.

I may consider putting some type of board wipe in. A friend's Roon deck has Supreme Verdict and i've seen him win games due to it. I don't have many instant/sorceries for spot removal because I have creature combos in there already that do it for me, and I really wanted to try and make Primal Surge into a heavy possible wincon.

Terastodon I have considered, and I do have an extra one on hand, but for now I'm going to wait until I get home from college and play more with my friends to see if that spot removal is more needed than what I already have in play.

A always like to have at least one board wipe, consider Supreme Verdict , Planar Cleansing or Cyclonic Rift .

I actually the think the last is the most powerful, if you're in a passable position it will clear boards in a depressingly one sided wipe and let you go in for an alpha strike on the same turn.

March 1, 2014 8:23 p.m.

Schmidty says... #23

Yeah I have both Supreme Verdict and Cyclonic Rift on my maybeboard. Perhaps I will put one in, probably Cyclonic Rift if any. I don't have much search in the deck, but might still be nice to have in.

As far as search goes, it wont help you get a board wipe (Unless you want to rely on Sunblast Angel ) But Brutalizer Exarch is amazing.

I love Roon. It's gradually unseating Zegana as my favorite EDH deck to play. I notice Aura Shards in your Maybeboard--that card is so ridiculously powerful I would place it on its very own Absolutelyboard, and it's a fairly inexpensive card to pick up. Once you have it in play, your 37 creatures turn into Disenchant s stapled onto beatsticks. You'll utterly hose a lot of decks out there that rely heavily on artifacts and enchantments.

I'd also recommend Return to Dust to deal with pesky Darksteel Forge s.

One good turn deserves another. +1 from me!
